CHAPTER 2- THE BEAST'S BLOODLUST

_

~Blood tainted the floors of the earth, but her courage wasn’t the slightest bit hurt.~

_

She ran fast on her feet, watching as the people ran towards the direction she was coming from.

A sum of five of the alpha’s who came were right behind her, ~Simon included~ running towards the danger instead of from it, but the rest were too scared to even move. Why come if they didn’t have any courage to fight?

Despicable, they all were and yet they called themselves alphas.

A bloodcurdling roar echoed from in front and a shiver wracked down Verya’s spine as she drew for her swords. There was no mistaking it, this was the beast, and it was thirsty, thirsty for blood.

She could hear flopping sounds and she knew instantly that it came from its wings. She regretted leaving in a hurry now because she left her bag, and her arrows and her bow were right inside of it.

F*ck!

“The beast! It’s here! It’s here!”

The words were screamed by a running man who didn’t make it much further. He was taken down, his bulky body falling against the loose dirt and something seeming so unreal hovering over him.

It roared, the dark, red wings behind its back flopping as it dislocated the man’s head. Blood; a whole lot of it splattered against the earth, mixing with what had already tainted it.

Verya’s legs slowed to a stop, her heart running wild in her chest. W...what in heaven’s name was that?

It was huge, three times the size of her wolf and her wolf was just as big as her father’s, its claws were really long, seeming even sharper than her swords.

How was she supposed to fight that? It looked like a dragon, an unbeatable opponent.

If she went any further, she wouldn’t win and she knew it. She wasn’t strong enough to go against something like that, but...but...

Her hands started to shake around her swords and her eyes drifted over to Simon who looked just as terrified as her. He stepped back, shaking his head. “You can stay little princess, but I’m leaving.”

He took off, heading in the same direction the cowards were running to, but Verya didn’t move, she couldn’t. She stood shakily in her spot watching as the half werewolf looking beast approached her. Its eyes were darker than the night, blood all over its dark red fur and its scent...there was something about it.

It was so heavy and atrocious and yet something about it calmed her heart. Wh-What w...?

It growled at her from a distance, and someone pulled her back; another alpha. “If you’re just going to stand here, move out of my f*cking way.”

Verya shook her head. She wasn’t just going to stand still, she was going to fight, she had to fight...but h-how?

The swords in her hand became heavier as she took a step forward. No, it didn’t matter how, she was here for a purpose and she wouldn’t leave until she fulfilled it. She couldn’t let anyone take its life before her, she had to prove herself, she had to slay it.

Gripping her swords tighter, she moved her stiff body, closing the distance between the beast and her. It looked angry, but she was f*cking angry too, so angry that she decided to launch the first attack.

She wasn’t an expert with swords, but she could use them. Her sword went after its chest, but the beast was quick to effortlessly flick her aside.

Verya coughed up the dust, groaning as she sat up on her knees. She could barely see, but four wolves were positioned in front of the beast now, trailing around it for an opening to attack.

One by one they lurched forward, and the beast took down each without even having to try. There was more blood on the earth’s surface now and she was the only conscious thing left in the beast’s path. Verya shook her head, near range attack wouldn’t work and luckily her shotgun was strapped to her thigh.

She pulled at it, turning off the safety before pointing it up at the beast.

With the trigger behind her finger, she squeezed, openly missing her shot. The sound had the beast turning towards her. She pumped the gun, loading a new round to fire, and then she fired again, and the shaky grip of her hand had her missing once more.

She rolled to her feet when the beast ran at her, her hand pumping the gun again and this time when she fired, she did not miss.

The beast howled out in pain, a blatant hole now at the edge of its left wing. It stepped back when she loaded her weapon again, shotting it in its front leg.

Another howl of pain came from its deadly mouth, its wings flopping and off the ground it rose.

It was going to fly away. Verya couldn’t let it leave without putting a hole in its head. She fired again, but the beast was sensible enough to sight the shot and into the air it took off, wafting along the breeze like a big butterfly.

Verya looked back at the injured men behind her. They did well, but it was her reign. She injured it, and though it was dangerous to hunt it by herself, she wouldn’t for the love of God let it get away.

Reloading her gun, she took off, in search of a prey far bigger than her.

Her feet took her into the woods, her eyes watching the sky as the beast flew messily across it. It was going to fall and when it did, she’d f*cking catch it.

It didn’t take long for her words to come to past. The beast fell, the sound of tree branches falling along with it tickling her sensitive ears.

Verya headed in the direction of the sound, creeping silently. She could smell it; its blood was dense in the forest and she didn’t hesitate to follow its trail.

In no time, she could hear its low whimpers and then from behind a tall, thick tree, she could see it too.

It was getting smaller; it was changing forms. Bones started to crack and its wings drew back into its back...

And then a man laid against the floor, completely unconscious. His body was small, hair blonde and short, and his scent... his scent...

His scent had Verya’s wolf becoming unsettled. He smelled good, his minty and yet sweetish scent had her legs taking her from behind the tree and straight over to him.

She stooped before the unconscious body of the obvious omega, her finger shaking along the tip of the trigger on her gun as her wolf whispered ‘mate’ in the back of her head.

Well f*cking hell, she had managed to catch the beast, but could she f*cking kill it?
