FAZER LOGINHate is a superpower. It strengthens even the weakest people. That’s what I’ve realized over the past years. I strived to be the best I can be so that when I return to my homeland, I would have enough resources to take down Benedict McClennan, the man who ruined my family and stole our wealth. But the old man is missing. And my only key in finding him is through Alano, his son. I made Alano fall in love with me. It was supposed to be easy. But it was not. Because he was different from the man I hated the most. I couldn't make him fall for me without falling for him as well. But what about the justice that I’ve been fighting for many years? Can I still have my mission accomplished?

“CHOOSE your assignment.”
I swiftly caught the envelope that Maggy tossed away upon entering our office. My forehead creased. But when I opened it, I instantly got the message the second I saw three closed-up photos of three different men. I took a quick glance at each photo. All the men there were equally gorgeous. Each of them had shown a glimpse of their personality based on their posture.
The man in the first picture had a blank expression on his face. The second gave a nerdy vibe with his thick glasses and an uncomfortable smile on his lips, and the third had a bewitching smile on his face as if he was seducing whoever took his picture. The last man caught my attention.
Maybe because out of the three brothers, only that man did not resemble Benedict McClennan so much. That old bastard was the man who stole our wealth and destroyed our families.
If the third man in the picture would be my target, I could somehow manage to control my anger and would not be tempted to cover his face unlike the two other men who were Benedict McClennan’s carbon copies. I took the picture and showed it to Maggy.
“I will take this one,” I said before handing the remaining pictures to Yalena who was currently sitting beside me on the couch.
It was Yalena’s time to choose. The last picture would automatically become Maggy’s target.
After a while, Maggy nodded. “That’s Alano McClennan, the notorious womanizer. He is Benedict’s second son and according to the rumors, he’s the most playful among his siblings. Are you sure about this, Clarice?”
I smiled, amused this time. “Am I supposed to feel offended? It looks like you are doubting my abilities, Maggy.”
Maggy chuckled. “Of course not. You’ve come so far, Clarice. How could I ever doubt you?” She raised her hands as if she was surrendering. “You’ve always been the asset of our company. You have your way with people. A womanizer versus a temptress will surely be a fight worth watching.”
I was about to speak but I was interrupted by the person who knocked on the door. A few seconds later, Julian barged in.
I stiffened.
“Clarice, I need to talk to you for a while and-“He stopped midway when he saw the photo I was holding. Julian was the only man I ever trusted; he was my best friend. Unfortunately, he fell in love with me.
In another circumstance, I would have allowed myself to fall for Julian, too, because he was everything a woman could ask for in a man. He was almost like a Prince Charming. But I was no Cinderella. I had no plans of becoming a heroine in a love story.
I planned to be the villain instead.
That was the reason why I couldn’t allow my heart to waver. My mission with the De Laras had to come first before anything else. Love was not included in my priority list right now.
He swallowed. “So… you are going to push through with your plan, Clarice?”
Julian was also the only man who knew about the plans I had with the De Lara twins. I could never keep a secret from him.
“Yes,” I answered coldly.
Julian was taken aback while the twins remained silent. He took a deep breath before speaking. “You don't have to go back to Manila and risk getting yourself hurt all for revenge. I can help you. I have my men who can-“
“The best revenge is not hurting someone physically, Julian,” I responded, deliberately cutting him off. “It’s targeting the human’s most sensitive part: the heart.”
“Clarice, Maggy, and I are no longer the same people from before. If we want to, we can choose the easy way to have our revenge,” Yalena butted in. Just like me, she was done choosing her target as well. “But we’ve waited so long for this. We can’t be distracted by the easy way no matter how tempted we are to do so.”
My chest tightened. When we were teenagers, we made a vow in front of our parents’ graves that we would make Benedict McClennan pay. But now that we had the means to fulfill our plans, we could not find the old man anywhere. We had a feeling that his three sons were hiding him. We decided that the people we would destroy first were his sons since they were the thorns in our path towards him.
“Does this mean that you are really going back to Manila, Clarice?” Julian asked.
“Yes,” I said without an ounce of hesitation. I could not afford to be swayed by the pain in his eyes. My best friends and I struggled so much just to be able to get to where we were now. It made me realize that life is a battle. If I wanted to win, a sacrifice was necessary.
A whole damn lot of it.
(Clarice)“Hello again, dad, Auntie, and uncle. It’s been so long,” I whispered while looking at the three tombstones in front of me. For the hundredth time, I felt like my heart was being squeezed. The two tombstones near my father’s were Maggy and Yalena’s parents. The three of them died fifteen years ago.We made a vow back then that we would only visit their graveyard the moment we succeeded in taking down Benedict McClennan. But I couldn’t stop myself from visiting them. My eyes began to water. Then and now, only my parents could break down my defenses like this. The twins and I were of the same age when the tragedy in our lives took place. We were thirteen when our worlds crumbled. The car my dad was driving at that time exploded. And the twins’ parents were in the same car, too. They were about to go to the police station to file a case against Benedict McClennan.Benedict used to be my mother’s persistent suitor, but mom rejected him and chose Roman, my dad. When my parents we
(Clarice)“Do you often go to church?” I asked while Alano was driving back to the resort. After the mass, he took me to a seafood restaurant. I just realized tonight that he was an extreme food lover despite his build. He said he made up for it through working out every morning.Seeing him eat with so much gusto was contagious. Because in the process, it made me eat more as well even if I normally skipped dinner.“It may not be obvious, but yes, I make it a habit to visit the church once a week,” Alano answered with a smile. “Mama was the reason for that. She made me and my brothers believe in the unseen. The three of us may be different but we do have one thing in common. And it’s our faith.”He glanced at me. That's why I was able to catch the genuine sincerity and adoration in his eyes while talking about his mother. It made my stomach churn.“Our mom can be a little frustrating at times, but we adore her.” He took out a rosary from his pocket. “She gave this to us to serve as our
(Clarice)For a moment, I allowed Alano to have his way with me. He wrapped his arm around my waist as he pressed his muscular body against mine. It had been so easy for him to head inside my room while his mouth was still busy wolfing mine. He closed the door using only his foot and quickly had me lean against the door.“You taste divine, Clarice,” he rasped as his hand began to untie my robe. His body went rigid when he saw me in my naked glory.Alano’s eyes made me feel proud and beautiful. Because there was fascination in those blue eyes, there was admiration and… lust.“You are by far, the most beautiful woman I have ever seen in my whole life, Clarice.”I closed my eyes when I could no longer stand seeing the heat in his eyes. Those eyes were dangerous. If I wasn't careful, I could melt just by looking at them. This was the first time that I’d ever been this daring. In my head, I could still see Maggy and Yalena’s determined eyes. I clenched my hands and reminded myself for a hu
(Alano)OUT of boredom, I tapped the conference table with my fingers while listening to Ansel’s report about the power plant in Iloilo. We had a technical problem. As a result, we were forced to shut down some of our power plants there.Frankly, Ansel didn’t need to report these things to us because I knew that he could fix the problem just fine. But we had no choice when he called for a meeting since he was our eldest brother. He was two years older than me.I breathed sharply. My work was done so I planned to leave the office early. I’d been aching to see Clarice again, especially since she hadn’t answered any of my calls and text messages. Even if I knew where she was staying, I was still worried that she might disappear on me anytime. There was something about Clarice that made me want her more. It could be because of the mystery in her eyes or the sweetness of her lips. But it could also be because of how divine she smelled or how good it felt when our skin touched. Her looks wa
