Today just doesn’t seem to be my day, first I had to be lectured by my mom for my choice of outfit. Which was quite a normal thing, but because she started earlier than usual, I had to escape before breakfast. Then almost like a routine getaway from uncle Sam, I tried taking my safe path out, but yet again my plans got disrupted when he managed to track me down… now what am I supposed to do in the future? The last thing I want is to be seen as another attention worthy Miss popular arriving in an eye-catching Audi.
The less noticeable I am, the less trouble I’ll be in. Well that worked for the first few years. Unfortunately, I guess all my luck finally ran out. Besides being spotted or rather bumping directly into the one and only triple 'H' of our school.... Handsome, Hot, Heartbreaker... ‘Jeremy Adams’, who was obviously staring at me like I am some sort of weirdo; I was also captured by the energetic uncle Sam this time round.
As if that wasn’t enough, he insisted on dropping me right at the entrance of the school’s campus. Although I knew he meant well and was probably just following instructions from my mom, it was still annoying as hell to be bombarded once more into trying to accept my family background, which somehow involved me dressing like a typical stereotype rich barbie.
When I arrived, god I could feel the questioning glares as some began whispering trying to figure out who the heck I was…. Yeah four years of taking the same class and eating in the same crappy canteen didn’t draw any unwanted attention, but popping up in an expensive car suddenly drew a bright spotlight shining on my unique appearance. ‘What a bunch of superficial, narrow-minded idiots!’ I thought lowering my head hoping to return to my usual ghostly self… existing but not seen.
However, like I said, my luck had all been used up…. As soon as I entered the noisy halls of the building, there came the overly or should I say excessively friendly Miss Joy. Though I highly doubt that’s her actual name, but it did suit her personality as a guidance counselor. Sometimes I would choose to listen to her enthusiastic approach to life just to laugh at the hypocrisy of her words. Yeah right as if life was all moonlight and roses… enjoyable and pleasant.
Anyways, I really didn’t feel like sitting for 5 minutes discussing my goals for this semester, much less making an appointment for staying an hour after classes just for motivation. No way that was happening today! With that in mind I kept walking forward pretending not to notice her gesturing me to her office. But yet again my day took a U-turn of unexpected circumstances.
“Erika! Dear wait a second I need to talk to you.” Miss Joy yelled seeing my obvious attempt to flee the scene.
Stubborn as I was, instead of giving up like I should have I kept walking ahead, even taking a detour to the nearby restroom hoping to buy some time. Sadly, as soon as I stepped out again, there she was eager to corner me. But at a moment of desperation I stuck to my ignorance, turned the opposite direction and walked hastily through the crowded path of students busily collecting their textbooks from their lockers.
Then it hit me for the second time this morning…. I was so occupied with running way that I accidentally stumbled and bumped into that familiar handsome face. Truly speaking though, this time was way more awkward and embarrassing.
“Shit!” I gasp expecting to land on the floors from the impact and sudden unbalanced feet, but to my surprise and those around, a pair of strong arms quickly grabbed hold of my waist helping me to remain standing. With eyes tightly shut I tried convincing myself “this isn’t happening… I’m still in bed sleeping… I’m just having a bad dream.” Much to my dismay, those insane rants were said out loud, earning me another 20 points on the crazy radar.

“Ahhh! Creep! Get your hands off my boyfriend!” An annoying voice suddenly shouted in excitement, finally causing the two entangled teens to regain their senses. Britney could hardly believe her eyes, being interrupted right in the middle of seeking justice from the low blow of insult Marcus dished out. Only to have some paranoid nobody with a terrible sense of fashion, literally been caught in the arms of her lover boy. Adding to her displeasure, Jeremy did not immediately release but held on to the ‘ugly’ ragged girl, lost in a trance.
With an awkward dry cough and redden cheeks, Erika apologized while slowly retreating from the handsome teen’s personal space with her head lowered in attempt to avoid directly facing those pair of piercing yet alluring deep black eyes. Like a snail she was prepared to hide in her shell and sneak away.
Marcus wore an amused smile, feeling quite contented with the live drama…. “Ha! Barbie got her Ken stolen.” His opinions always voiced out and never kept to himself.
Jeremy on the other hand, wasn’t sure how to react. For some strange reason, when he reflexively grabbed hold of the person crashing into him that was about to fall, without even knowing who it was. His heart began to pound against his chest as if his organs were making a protest… a statement demanding attention. When he finally saw the familiar weird big framed glasses and heard her foolish rumble, he found it both stupid and laughable…. Perhaps even a bit cute. Lost in a moment of admiration his eyes unintentionally fell on her flushed rosy cheeks, small button nose and slightly parted pink lips…. Unknowingly, he found himself wanting to stair at her a bit longer.
However, the abrupt sound of Britney’s outburst quickly drew his mind away causing him to reluctantly withdrew his sight and slowly release the crazy cute sloppy girl once she regained her balance, stepping aside cautiously. Many witnessing the scene were awaiting a good show, hoping to see the possessive jealous freak cheerleader girlfriend humiliate the flustered nerd. Thankfully, as if saved by the dong! The school’s bell rang, signally the start of first period.
********************************
As usual, rushing to first period was hectic. The packed halls, pushing and forcing their way to whichever direction they were headed. Miss Joy had quickly lost tract of the fleeing girl, so did the three pairs of eyes caught in a wind of uncertainty. Although the bell had interrupted the one-sided dispute, Britney was still fuming with anger as if a certain green-eyed monster had awakened, eating at her flesh…. Jealousy was rotten to the core. From her prospective the little miss nobody wanted to create a scene by directly bumping into the school’s most popular figures with the goal of gaining some sort of recognition or fame, perhaps even with the motive of challenging her status as Jeremy’s girlfriend. On the contrary, she was simply threatened by her own imagination. As with any other fruitless fights, the matter was quickly forgotten, i
‘I’ve never being this anxious in my life to escape an awkward encounter, gush what a terrible morning. Not only did I bumped into my secrete crush once, but twice within a matter of hours. To say I made a complete fool of myself would be an understatement. Like any other sane girl at West-Bay Academy, my naïve little heart fluttered at his touch and mesmerizing scent…. Teenage hormones are a ticking time bomb,’ Erika concluded as she sat at her usual secluded spot to the farthest end of the classroom. She wasted no time in burying her face into her text book, patiently waiting for Miss Archer to begin today’s lesson, not paying too much attention to whatever unnecessary discussions drifted through the air. Only until the exciting announcement was made for the school’s internship program did she regain her sense of awareness. For those that were actually serious about making a career in the medical filed, it was trul
“Now that we have the basics covered, I suggest from tomorrow prepare yourselves to work more closely with your team mate. Later on in the day, the school will organize a more appropriate setting for each group, meaning you will now spend the remaining of the duration time leading up to the internship selection, seated alongside your partner.” Miss Archer continued to inform the class. Although many grumbled in dissatisfaction, in the end they simply had no other choice if they were to cease the opportunity. Jake sulked bitterly at the thought of being stuck with some ugly nobody and a rubber stamp… thinking that Jeremy was just a waste, he had everything… fame and riches but was too boring and cold, a party pooper. He just didn’t get what these girls saw in him. Sure, he was Quarterback of the football team, but what about
“Fine, I won’t get your parents involved, but… on two conditions.” Principal McAbee thought of using this as an opportunity to slowly guide the little antisocialist into the right path of normalcy. So, he took his seat behind the office desk with a clear mission. Erika could already guess where this was headed, but since it was her only alternative, she had to accept whatever came her way. “What’s the price?” “You haven’t registered for an afterschool activity as yet to qualify for the internship and no I’m not allowing you to assist in the library department, that does not count as interactive.” Did she really think she could get away that easy? “Well I’m not joining the debate team either, how about props and lighting in drama class?” She tried reasoning. “Nice try, but that’s not going to work… I was thinking more along the
Britney’s frustration grew at the possibility of the little nerd being an actual somebody. It was one thing to bully a missed placed, low status wannabe, but to interfere with an upper-class family… she needed to attack from within the circle and who better to ask for help than her doting arrogant daddy? “No way you’re stealing my boyfriend you ugly bookworm!” The scheming teen gritted her teeth in contempt as she quickly ran ahead of Jeremy and back into the school’s auditorium, planning a one-sided battle against the innocent girl that was desperately trying to remain a nobody. About an hour and a half later practice was finally over. With great anticipation the young Master Adams rushed across town to a much smaller community, in the company car sent to escort him home. “Sir, I must inform your father where
“Hold that thought, I really need to use the bathroom.” Chelsey interrupted before dashing into her nearby room. Five minutes later sighing a breath of relieve, she slowly stepped back into the hall space only to meet the lingering gaze of her brother as if he was anxiously waiting for her return. “Alright, I’m all ears, what do you need? Just stop acting so weird.” “Sorry.” Jeremy coughed dryly then stated, “I’m kind of curious about this Stevens girl, she… well… umm… she sort of bumped into me twice this morning.” Ever since they were kids, Jeremy had always felt comfortable enough to talk to his big sis. Perhaps thinking she was the only logical and sane person in their family. “And? What’s the big deal? I’ve met her once before when I was delivering s
The Hudson’s and the Adams were busily planning their own mission against the unsuspected innocent by-stander. Poor Erika had no idea what was instore for her, all she wanted was to keep to herself and survive her final semester at West-Bay Academy, but unfortunately that was too much to ask for from a bunch of life draining, fame hungry, spoiled teens. Because of the previous day’s series of incidents, she no longer took the risk of being hasty. “I just need to slow down today, maybe I was too free spirited. If I hadn’t ran away from everything none of this would have happened.” What a terrible way of reasoning with fate. Anyways, to be on the ‘safe’ side, she tried relaxing a bit. Woke up as usual, listen to another round of meaningless fashion lecture at breakfast with her overly concerned parents. Not bothering to pay too much attention to whatever her dear mo
At the stroke of nine, the halls were no longer crowded as the classroom was quickly filled with the bickering sound of disputing teenagers, clearly annoyed with the seating arrangements made for the next few weeks up until the internship selection would finalize. Even the usually neutral Jeremy Adams couldn’t help feeling a bit displeased for some strange reason. The sight of Jake suddenly flattering Erika continuously with obvious praise, was both annoying and laughable. Funny simply because of the hypocrisy in his actions. In about 24 hours he went from finding the nerd as disgusting and ugly, to a fascinating beauty when her appearance was no different from before. “I like your sweater today; the color matches your eyes. I can easily get lost in them.” Jake commented while leaning towards the innocent girl, just enough for the guy beside him to overhear.
