Athena’s POV

I paced around the room for hours.

The afternoon sun had gone down, and now the night had come. Still, Travis didn’t return.

I kept looking at the door, hoping I would hear the knob turn, hoping he would walk in and say something but it didn’t happen.

I walked to the window, then back to the bed, then to the door, and then back again. My mind was all over the place.

Earlier, I had asked the guards where he was. One of them said in a quiet voice, “He has been in his study all day, ma’am and hasn’t stepped out.”

I asked if I could go there and he shook his head quickly. “No one is allowed in. He told us clearly not to let anyone in.”

That broke me.My heart felt like someone had tied it with a rope and kept pulling tighter.

I went back to the room and just stood there, staring at nothing. “This is all my fault,” I whispered to myself.

Even though I had been asleep and didn’t even know what Hudson was doing until it was too late, I still blamed myself. I hated how it all happ
