The ruins were quiet in the strange way they became just before dawn. Not peaceful. Never peaceful. Just waiting. Sera moved carefully between the broken walls, her eyes scanning every shadow. Husen walked a few steps behind her.

"You said Nathan would be here," he said.

"I said he left a message saying he'd be somewhere around the eastern ruins."

"That's not the same thing."

"I know."

Husen gave her a sideways glance. "You're getting better at admitting when you don't know something."

Sera loo

  • Crimson Love   Chapter 130 : The search

The underground passage had become a graveyard. Not a graveyard of bodies. A graveyard of roads. Every tunnel looked as though it had once led somewhere important, but decades of collapse, fire, and neglect had turned the underground network into a maze of broken concrete and rusted steel. The Council retrieval team had been moving for nearly two hours. And they were nowhere near Station Zero. At least, that was what their instruments told them. Commander Rhal stood beneath the weak beam of a portable lamp, staring at the handheld scanner in his gloved hand. The screen flickered. A red line appeared. Then vanished. He tapped the device. Nothing."Again."The technician beside him swallowed. "It's still giving conflicting readings.""How conflicting?"The technician hesitated. "Three possible routes."Rhal looked at him. "Three?""Actually..." The technician looked down. "Seven."Silence. Behind them, thirty soldiers stood scattered through the ruined tunnel. Some were carrying heavy w

  • Crimson Love   Chapter 129 : Listener's insanity

The silence beneath Station Zero lasted only a few seconds. Then something laughed. It wasn't loud. It wasn't even particularly human. It was a small, breathless sound from somewhere in the darkness behind the Listener. Sera's eyes narrowed. Husen moved immediately. One arm slid across her waist, pulling her half a step behind him as his gaze swept across the ruined station."Don't move."Sera glared at the back of his head. "You always say that.""And you never listen.""Because you always say it when something interesting is happening."Husen's jaw tightened. "Exactly."Across the platform, the Listener stood perfectly still. The dim red light beneath the metal floor illuminated half of his face. One silver eye. One crimson eye. His expression was almost pleasant. That was what bothered Sera most. He wasn't frightened. He wasn't tense. He wasn't even preparing to fight. He looked like someone watching an experiment.Husen noticed it too.His voice dropped. "You called them."The Lis

The Council did not sleep. By midnight, the underground chamber had been sealed behind three layers of reinforced doors. No one was permitted inside without direct authorization. No one was permitted to touch the machine. And, most importantly, no one was permitted to speak publicly about what had happened. The official report simply stated:SYSTEM MALFUNCTION - UNDER INVESTIGATION.But everyone who had been inside the chamber knew that was a lie. Machines malfunctioned. Machines broke. Machines lost power. They did not identify a woman who was hundreds of kilometers away. They did not locate an abandoned underground station that had been erased from modern maps. And they certainly did not say her name.Sera.The word remained burned into the minds of everyone who had witnessed the screens. The Council's senior representative stood inside the command room, staring at a holographic map spread across the central table. Several red markers glowed across the ruined territories.Zelios. Th

  • Crimson Love   Chapter 127 : The Machine That Remembered

The Council chamber had never been this quiet. Not even during executions. Not even when the outer walls had been breached by a pack of wilds and half the eastern district had burned.Silence was something the Council rarely tolerated. There were always voices behind its doors, advisers whispering, officers arguing, machines humming, messengers carrying reports from the surviving territories. But tonight, every sound seemed to have disappeared. Because beneath the Council's central tower, behind seven reinforced doors and three biometric barriers, something was wrong. Something that was never supposed to be wrong. The machine was awake. And it was speaking. A thin red light pulsed across the enormous circular chamber. Once. Twice. Then again. The sound accompanying it was almost too quiet to notice. Beep. Beep. Beep.Several Council technicians stood frozen around the central platform. In the middle of the room sat the machine that had been buried beneath the Council complex for decad

  • Crimson Love   Chapter 126 : The face behind the voice

The passage ended with a wall. Sera stared at it. For several seconds, neither she nor Husen spoke. The tunnel was narrow, damp, and almost completely swallowed by darkness. Their footsteps had echoed through it for the past several minutes, but now even those echoes seemed to have died. Sera unfolded Nathan's map again. She compared the markings to the wall in front of them. Then looked behind them. Then at the map again. "No."Husen leaned against the wall.,"That's what I was thinking.""We came the wrong way.""Probably."Sera looked at him.,"You're not going to argue?""I've learned that arguing with you doesn't make the wall disappear."She frowned. "This is serious.""So am I."She ignored him.Her finger followed the faded line on the map. "According to this, Station Zera should be here."Husen examined the wall. "Maybe it isn't.""What do you mean?""The station may not be directly behind the wall."Sera looked around.m"We've checked every passage.""Almost every passage."She

  • Crimson Love   Chapter 125 : The race

The ruins slept beneath a moonless sky. What remained of the city stretched endlessly into the darkness, collapsed towers, fractured roads, buildings with their interiors exposed to the night. Wind moved through empty windows, carrying dust and the faint metallic smell of old rain.Kael moved alone. He wasn't searching randomly. He was following a trail.Sera and Husen had passed through this district earlier. Most people would have lost their trail hours ago, but Kael wasn't most people. He noticed the smallest disturbances. A footprint pressed slightly deeper into dust. A broken piece of rubble that had recently shifted. A faint scratch against concrete. He crouched beside one such mark. His fingers brushed the dust. "Still fresh."He stood. His eyes moved toward the ruined eastern district. That was where they'd gone. Kael took several steps. Then stopped. Something else had entered the area. A scent.Familiar. He didn't need to turn around. "You're following me now?"A woman's voic
