As those last words dropped from Zee's lips, Jules froze, her mind reeling.

This was happening too fast. And all because of the one time she'd openly stood up for herself.

For god's sake, that bitch disrespected her. What? She's supposed to sit back and fold her arms?

In her own house?

Instead of fear, anger coursed through her veins. She turned on her heel and stormed towards her office, ready to bite the head off anyone who so much as looked at her wrong.

Or better still, lose their job.

She slammed the door on Zee's face and walked in, rage brewing in her chest. ‘How dare they judge me?’ she thought. ‘This involved my son, my family!’

Suddenly, a gunshot echoed, accompanied by panic setting through the building, startling Jules.

Her eyes widened, and she waited a while before rushing to her floor to ceiling window to get a glimpse of what was going on.

Just in front of the building were a couple of armed men in uniform, standing on alert while the journalists scattered in different

Jules' shoes were in her hands when she got down from the car. Her head was throbbing violently, and her eyes were heavy as she stopped herself from replaying how she'd found Cassie.Somehow, that grown ass woman had crawled into Brad's room even in her drunken state. But that wasn't the worst part. When Jules searched the hallway on the floor Cassie had hurried to, she'd stopped at one door which was opened a crack. She'd ignored her instinct and peered through, only to find Cassie on her knees. In the middle of Brad's room.Surrounded by three men naked from the waist down. And she was stroking one of them, ready to commit something that she'd probably regret in the morning.Normally, Jules would have left her there, as that wasn't Cassie's first foursome. But this was different because she was wasted and she was not in her right state of mind. Then in the morning, Jules would have to play the sorry, supportive friend. She really wasn't up for that, so she had to literally drag her

“Control yourself, Cassie,” Jules warned as they stepped into the building—already swarming with strangers grinding against aroused dicks, with music blasting so illegally loud it made her ears throb. This was definitely not a place she was supposed to be. But here she was. “Maybe it's you who needs to loosen up a bit," Cassie yelled over the music, her body already moving to the rhythm. “Ethan isn't here." “I’m not scared of Ethan." Jules yelled back. “Oh, yeah?" Cassie backed away in her moves and grabbed two shot glasses from a server passing by. She held one out to Jules, a smirk curling her lips. “Prove it.” Jules stared at the tiny glass, then back at the spark in Cassie’s eyes. ‘This is a bad idea.’ her head whispered. ‘You don't drink outside, remember?’ Suddenly, Jules remembered how much of a bad influence Cassie could be at times. But she'd agreed to go out with her, didn't she? What was she expecting—a church service? This was Cassie, and this could b

"The company from Germany agreed to reschedule, though. Because the manager also can't make it. But he'll be back in the city in two weeks." Jules let out a soft sigh as she fastened her earrings, eyes fixed on her reflection in the mirror.Apparently, her self-imposed break due to Asher’s illness was ending tomorrow—but somehow, the universe wasn’t quite ready to let her return. She was thankful though, because one part of her mind was not as ready, seeing how she'd left things in the office the last time.Anyway, here she was, slipping into her best clothes and trusting Cassie with the location she’d picked for their outing.“...for the others, I'll try making sure they don't reconsider, and all the meetings are held.”Jules had almost forgotten she was still on the call with Zee."Alright, then." She replied. “I'll be there tomorrow." She ended the call. But just as she set it down, it buzzed again.Cassie.She tapped the screen and set it to speaker.“Girl, where the fuck are you

Jules glanced at the time and switched off the TV just as the cook placed dinner on the table.Refusing to permit her thoughts, she walked over to the table and uncovered the dish.“I don't think I'm hungry." “Really?" The lady said, her accent never failing to sneak in. “Is it the food? I could prepare something else." She added quickly. But Jules just waved her off and put the lid back on. “The food is great. I just don't have an appetite." She walked towards the stairs. I'll go get Asher and Nancy. They'll be happy to eat.”The cook only smiled and shrugged, retreating to the kitchen to finish setting the table."Asher, it's time for dinner.” She pushed open his room but found it empty. Clean and silent. No sign of Nancy, too. “Asher?" Then she heard giggling. She stepped back into the hallway, and turned in the direction of the laughter, walking down the hall till she stopped at Colton's room.Quietly, she turned the handle and walked in. A small smile tugged at her lips.On th

If only Ethan hadn't walked into the building with one goal on his mind—reason with him first, then strike—he’d have reached forward and twisted the man's neck already.Plus, he really didn't want to get his shirt dirty just in case it escalated. He'd known exactly what Jasper was talking about, but the thing was he wasn't sure that was the reason he'd kidnapped him.Now he was sure, and it was making his blood boil. Only a few people knew that information, and half of them were dead. The rest—he kept them at a distance so near, he'd be able to silence them if the need came. How the fuck did Jasper know?“Nothing’s a secret under the sun, Fraser,” Jasper said, his voice relaxed. “You should see your face right now. That terrified look? It’s priceless.”"Where the hell did you hear that information from?" Ethan finally asked.Jasper let out a dry laugh, enjoying the shift in power. “It doesn't matter.”“You better tell me, or your family gets it." “You won't." Jasper said quickly, hi

“You didn't tell me why you have so many writings on your arm, daddy,” Asher said in his tiny, curious voice, the hint of laughter tugging at his lips as he fumbled with one of Ethan’s fingers, laying on the bed.“Oh, these?" Ethan said with a raised brow, glancing at his tattoos.Asher nodded.“It's art." He replied. “You know, daddy used to like art when he was little." “Like me?" “Yeah, exactly like you. I’d draw on everything—my books, the walls, even my bed. And my mum? She’d beat me so hard.” He pulled a goofy face.Asher giggled."And when I became a man, I still drew everywhere until I drew on my body.”"Isn't that bad?" Ethan nodded. “Very. And if my mummy were here, she'd beat me till I pee on myself." Asher chuckled some more.Jules leaned against the doorway, arms folded, a soft smile playing at the corners of her lips. She had expected Ethan to be furious when he arrived at the hospital—instead, he’d said almost nothing about Asher’s condition and took it as a chance
