"The trauma." I said, taking my drink for the waiter.

I could see Jasper's face hardening under his mask.

"What is it?" I asked.

"You don't have to do this anymore. I have been thinking and I hate it. We can't talk or see each other. He is keeping you from work."

I held my head down. I always felt bad for being with Cameron, and now that Jasper said it, it made me feel even worse.

"I'm sorry Jasper. And you are right. I don't want to be away from you any longer. It kills me to know that I'm doing this. You must hate me."

Jasper rested a hand on my shoulder. To me it was a gesture he would use toward a friend.

"To tell you the truth, I almost lost hope for us. I thought you were truly going back to Cameron. I thought you preferred him over me."

"Is that why you brought a date?"

"Oh, no. Well, the think with this ball is we have to show up with a date."

"I never knew that."

"Didn't Cameron explain what this ball is all about?"

"No, but let's not talk about him. And I want to be surprise
