Chapter 54: The Pain

[Damen’s POV]

For a moment I took in the scene below me. The blood and gore were everywhere. The moans of the dying and injured mixed with the guttural grunts of many who were still left fighting were horrid, but I was not disgusted. Sulfur and ash from the fires that t rage through the city filled the night's air.

As I hovered above this battlefield, several opposing demons flew at me simultaneously, each sinking their razor-sharp claws into the gaps of my armor on my legs. Their putrid stench reeks of rotten flesh.

I swung my sword and managed to dismember one of the demon’s arms. The demon’s arm landed with a thump, the sound of breaking bones and the gush of blood as her arm separated from her torso. She screamed in agony, as she fell, grabbed her arm, and writhed on the ground.

The other managed to fly up behind me and just as he attempted to claw at my neck, I turned quickly, dug my fist through his leathery chest, ripped his still-beating heart out, and crushed it in my hand.
