The golden light intensified until the entire chamber blazed like a second sun. Through our quad bond, I felt my mates pouring everything they had into the unified magic, their love and determination flowing through me like liquid fire.

But I also felt something else. A terrible pulling sensation, as if the universe itself was trying to tear me away from them.

"The dimensional barrier is weakening," Theron shouted over the magical storm. "The Shadow Emperor's projection is creating a rift back to his realm!"

"Then this is our chance," I said, though the words felt like glass in my throat.

"Lyra, please," Prince Kael grabbed my hand. "There has to be another way. Something that does not require you to leave us."

"Look around," I replied, gesturing to the chaos surrounding us. "Half the kingdom is in ruins. Thousands are dead. How many more will die if I choose safety over duty?"
