Stone fragments kept tumbling down, and dust permeated the air.

Unable to dodge in time, I was trapped in the crevice by a huge boulder. My left leg was jammed tight.

At that moment, even the astounding healing abilities in my blood were completely useless. I immediately felt a searing pain in my lower abdomen.

I was shuddering from the pain as I painstakingly dialed the pack communicator. "Help me! The cave collapsed, and my leg got stuck. My belly hurts—"

Before I could finish speaking, the warrior of the pack interrupted me in a cold voice, "Ms. Mason, the Alpha has already informed us beforehand that you'd harbor resentment after that conflict with Ms. Alicia.

"He said you're very likely to cause trouble on purpose by falsely claiming to be in danger, hence wasting rescue resources. If you're trying to get him to pity you and force him to show up by faking distress, please stop wasting your time."

As the wind and sand whipped across my face, I froze in place, and my heart suddenly sank. "No, I'm not lying! The walls actually caved in, and there's a huge boulder pressing against my leg. I can't even move an inch!"

My voice was filled with terror as I continued, "Please, think of the pup in my womb. If this goes on, both the pup and I will be in danger! Please come over as soon as you can!"

The warrior scoffed in annoyance. "Rescue resources are reserved for pack members who are in real danger! You're the one who messed things up yourself, so don't get us involved."

The next moment, the line went dead.

Immense pain spread across my body in waves. I bit down hard on my lip and tasted blood on my tongue.

Strong winds whipped up debris that incessantly rained down on me, and the air was thick with dust.

I was choking so much that my eyes teared up, and I began to cough violently.

My trapped leg gradually turned numb, but the churning pain in my lower abdomen was relentlessly tormenting me.

Pressing my palm against my belly, I whispered in a comforting tone, "It's okay, little one. I'll try calling for help again."

For the sake of the pup, I refused to give up.

With trembling hands, I dialed the communicator again.

As soon as the call went through, an obviously irritated voice rang out. "You again?"

Tears welled up uncontrollably in my eyes as I burst out sobbing, "I swear I'm not lying!"

I extended the communicator out through the crevice, hoping that the continuous loud rumble of falling rocks made it through to the other end of the line. "Listen! The cave is collapsing! I'm not sulking! I swear, I'm really trapped here!"

The relentless pain in my lower abdomen was indicating that the pup's life was slowly being snuffed out.

But I was trapped by the huge boulder, and I couldn't do anything. "My belly is in serious pain, and I can't hold on anymore! Please just send someone to rescue me!"

However, only mocking voices sounded from the other end of the line. "Her again? She doesn't know when to quit, does she? With such a difficult future mate clinging to him, no wonder the Alpha favored Ms. Alicia instead."

I begged, "Please, I'm really dying. Why won't you believe me…"

My voice had already turned hoarse, but as if they hadn't noticed it, they coldly warned me, "Cecilia, you're making a scene here. If you keep pestering us, we'll log this on record and hand it over to the elders of the pack for judgment!"

Immense helplessness seemed to be choking me in a death grip.

I was the victim here, but everyone just assumed I was taking advantage of the opportunity to throw a tantrum!

Before I could defend myself, the line went dead once again.

Shortly after the screen went dark, a personal message appeared.

It was a message from Ethan Steele, and his words were bone-piercingly cold. "Cecilia, just give it a rest, will you? I only told you to reflect on your mistakes. Do you really have to push me this far?

"The rescue team has real duties to attend to. They don't have time to play along with your nonsense! Anyway, Alicia just woke up. If you're done playing games, just get back here."

I stared at the screen, stunned. Then, hot tears streamed down my face.

The rubble could bury me at any moment. I was in an extremely dire situation, and my life was hanging by a thread.

But no one believed me.

Alicia Mason claimed I had pushed her into the basement, but I never even touched a hair on her.

Ethan was my future mate, but for another woman's sake, he drove both me and the pup in my womb into a dead end.

Coldness and desperation welled up within my chest. I gritted my teeth and dialed the pack's dedicated emergency channel. "The cave collapsed. I'm severely injured, and I'm bleeding profusely while pregnant. I need urgent medical support!"

The night air felt cool on my skin when Ray sent me home.He tilted his head to look at me. "After going through all that, do you regret anything?"I put on a relieved smile. "It's exactly because I survived a brush with death in the cave that I realized something. Even without depending on anyone, I can still live a peaceful and steady life on my own."Ray nodded. "Your resilience is one of a kind. It's also the reason I risked my life to enter the collapsed cave and rescue you. The infirmary here in the Moonfrost pack has always needed helping hands. I have the utmost respect for your abilities."I looked up at him, feeling a hint of tenderness radiating from a corner of my frozen heart. After the near-death experience, I no longer needed anyone to prove that I was worthy of being loved. For the rest of my life, I was willing to let go of my past and focus solely on my work.During the day, I treated the wounded at the infirmary and organized records of various injuries and il

Ray didn't completely hide all traces of me. Following the scattered clues, the Mason family eventually found me.The door was slammed open, and Mom was the first to barge in.The moment she saw me, her eyes instantly reddened.Dad followed behind her, his back severely hunched.Ethan was the last to enter. His eyes were bloodshot, and he had an air of anxiety around him.I remained calm as I looked indifferently at them. "What brings you here?"Mom took a step forward, tears streaming down her face as she spoke in a voice choked with regret. 'Cecilia, I'm so sorry. Back when the cave collapsed, I wasn't thinking straight and believed Alicia's lies. I'm sorry I didn't believe you! I'm drowning in regret right now. Can you please forgive me?"Dad spoke up as well. His voice was hoarse and bitter as he said with self-reproach, "Back when you kept crying for help, instead of sending someone to rescue you, I scolded you for being stubborn and acting up. I was so foolish back then! I

When I opened my eyes again, I found myself in the grounds of a rival pack.A man was keeping watch by the bed. It was the Alpha of the Moonfrost pack, Ray Hammond.I had heard of him before. He was far stronger than Ethan and was known for being calm and reserved in his ways.He placed a mug of warm water in my hands. "Your fever just receded, and you're extremely weak right now. You need to rest for a while longer."My head felt heavy, and I hadn't quite wrapped my head around what was happening. In my daze, I kept feeling like I had died under the rubble. My throat was parched, and I said in a hoarse voice, "I'm… still alive?"Ray nodded. His tone was calm as he explained, "I was the one who saved you from the depths of the cave with my pack members. The priest forged a fake corpse for you through magic. When you arrived at the infirmary, the pup in your womb was gone, but fortunately, you survived."I was silent for a long while. Then, I put on a bitter smile. "Thank you."

In the infirmary late at night, the whole family was gathered around Alicia's cot to take care of her.The door was slammed open, and a warrior covered in dust hurriedly barged into the room.He had a video recorder in his hand as he strode up to Ethan, reporting, "Alpha! The west cave collapsed, and we found a pregnant woman under the rubble! Judging by her belongings, we've surmised that this victim… is your future mate, Ms. Cecilia Mason!"The warrior had just finished speaking when the room fell deathly silent. My parents and Ethan were instantly frozen on the spot, and the color drained from their faces.A subtle look of glee flashed across Alicia's eyes, but she quickly put on a panicked expression. She held Ethan's arm, making sure to sound flustered as she said, "But… Could it be someone else with the same name as Cecilia? There are always tons of pack members going in and out of the caves. It might be a coincidence, right?"Mom was trembling from head to toe as she snat

But just then, Alicia leaned in and exclaimed in shock, "Cecilia! Why are you bleeding so much?"She blinked innocently. "Wait, I've seen how pack members process the game from the hunts. The blood pooled just like this. Hold on, could it be?"The emotion completely disappeared from Ethan's expression. He looked at me, his gaze filled with disappointment and detachment. "Cecilia, how are you so reluctant to accept Alicia? She was traumatized in the basement, but you're still playing dirty tricks just to compete with her for attention! I'm disappointed in you!"I was just getting hopeful, but in that instant, all my hopes were dashed.Immense hatred and despair filled my heart. "Ethan, why do you trust Alicia so blindly when you won't even believe me for once? I'm your future mate! I'm even pregnant with your pup! "I'm a mother, so why would I possibly joke about my own pup? If I actually lied, just hand me over to the elders of the pack for judgment! But what if I'm telling the t

But it started caving in again, and gravel instantly filled up the small space I had just dug out.I slowly sank into despair.Just when I couldn't bear it anymore, a video call invite from my parents suddenly popped up on the communicator. My eyes lit up, and I trembled as I accepted the invite. But when the video came through, I froze on the spot.Instead of my parents, the person who had appeared on the screen was Alicia.I was covered in dust and barely breathing, but she just looked at me. Then, she curved her lips into a mocking smile as she cut the mic.I could see the warm and well-lit room on my screen, but they could no longer hear my wails and cries for help.Mom was holding Alicia's hand while Dad stooped over and gave Alicia some herb tea.Noticing Alicia's creased eyebrows, Ethan softened his voice and comforted her.Ethan was treating her with such careful and cherishing gentleness. The tenderness was something he had never shown me in our three years together.
