LOGINSelvara’s POV
With shaky hands, I opened the door. The shadow I saw reflecting under the door had long been gone, but his scent stayed in the hallway. With a tight breath, I slowly backed into the room and got in bed. Seconds passed and I was no longer comfortable in the room. It felt like it was choking life out of me. I slipped out of the bed quietly. The other omegas snored on, but I didn’t breathe until I crossed the hall. If Queen Celine found me out here again, she’d skin me alive. The back door creaked. I froze, two guards leaned against the wall, talking low. “…Zyros pushed the warriors harder today. If he keeps this up...” “Shh. Do you want trouble?” I pressed myself into the shadows until they moved off. My pulse hammered. One of the guards shifted suddenly, his nose lifting in the air. My stomach dropped. “Wait. Do you smell that?” he asked, sniffing. The other guard frowned. “You’re imagining things. Come on, before Zyros finds us slacking.” His eyes swept the shadows, too close to where I was pressed against the wall. I held my breath until my chest ached. If he moved one step closer, he would see me crouched there. Finally, with a grunt, they walked off. When they turned the corner, I slipped past, barefoot, into the night. The cold air hit me sharp. But that was what I wanted, a moment away from the pack. The moon was bright, and I could feel the air against my skin. For a moment, it almost felt peaceful. But my wolf stirred, restless, yet again. "What is it this time?" "Stop it!” I hissed under my breath. Mate. She said again, but louder this time. My hands trembled. "Leave me alone!” I muttered, hugging myself tighter. I was frustrated at that point that the slightest thing would make me burst into tears. I could hear the sound of crickets, owls, and the rustling of leaves. But under it all came another sound, it was faint. It was a scent. My wolf bristled. My knees locked, I was extremely scared. No one was allowed out of the pack at night, and I had sneaked out to be killed? Rogues? I whispered to myself, cursing under my breath. I swallowed, scanning the trees. My skin prickled as if eyes were on me. I could remember the last time Queen Celine caught me sneaking out, she had dragged me by my hair in front of all other wolves, stripped me, made my body wet with warm water and flogged me with whips countless times. I clenched my fists. I couldn’t go back. Not yet. But then, I had to choose my death... or simply put, my hell. The bushes rustled again, Then came the sound of rushing footsteps. Fast, coming straight for me. My heart leapt to my throat. My wolf bristled, claws digging at my skin. “Rogues,” I whispered, backing away. When the steps closed in, I lost it. A scream tore from my lungs, sharp and loud enough to wake the whole pack. A hand clamped over my mouth. It was strong and warm. I thrashed until a deep voice murmured against my ear. “It’s fine. It’s me.” I opened my eyes slowly as I turned to face him. For a while, I was just there staring at him, the scene played off a little slowly. His palm stayed firm, but his other hand brushed through my hair slowly, steadying me. My body went still under his touch. I blinked up at him, breathless, heat flooding my face. Then I shoved his hand away and stumbled back fast, putting space between us. “Selvara.” he said as he came a little closer and I moved to the back again. “You shouldn’t be here,” he added. “Neither should you,” I shot back before I could stop myself. I had grown a lot of courage, enough to speak back to the Alpha Heir. I really was getting too comfortable. He didn’t smile, he didn’t move. His voice was low as he came close to me by a step. “You've been acting really weird these days.” “I’m not.” “You have.” Zyros took a step closer. The pull between us snapped tight. My chest ached, my wolf howling inside. Mate, Mate. It went on and on. I stumbled back until my shoulders hit a tree. “Go back, Zyros.” He stopped in front of me. His scent wrapped around me, making me dizzy. “You feel it,” he said. That was obviously not a question. “No.” it was a lie, we both knew it was. Zyros lifted a hand slowly, as if giving me time to move. My heart slammed against my ribs. His fingers hovered inches from my face, the heat of them brushing my cheek. I turned red all over. For one breathless second, I almost let him. I wanted him. Then fear cut through. I shoved off the tree and pushed past him, nearly tripping. “Selvara.” His voice followed, rough and low. I didn’t stop. I ran through the grass, lungs burning. The Pack house lights were faint ahead. My wolf screamed in my head, tangled with his growl still echoing in my chest. But just as I pushed harder, something hard caught my leg. My head spun, I gasped as the world tilted. My body slammed to the ground, breath torn out of me. ______Selvara's POVWhen the door to the cage creaked open, it was the guards bringing food for me. One crouched beside me and I expected him to leave as soon as he dropped the food, not like I was going to eat it anyways. What's the point of eating at the verge of death? With poison in my belly...I saw as his eyes wandered around my bare body. Afterall what I had on was just a little night gown that barely covered me up."Pretty little thing, are you not? Shame Mordain wants you untouched.""Stay away from me," I said while trying to crawl backward. But my body would not cooperate. Whatever Mordain had done to knock me out was still affecting me. The guard reached out and grabbed my chin. "Maybe just a little touch would not hurt," he said while his other hand moved toward my dress."I said stay away!" I tried to summon my power but nothing happened. The guard laughed. "Your power does not work here, Moonborn. The cells are warded." His hand slid down my neck, to my shoulder and then low
Zyros's POV (at the convergence...)One moment Selvara was standing beside me and the next, she collapsed."Selvara!" I caught her before she hit the ground. Her body was limp and her eyes were closed."What happened?" Flair shouted while running toward us."I do not know," I said while shaking Selvara gently. "Selvara, wake up. Please."But she did not move. Mordain stepped forward with his hand still raised. "She is simply sleeping. The darkness does not harm those with Eclipse blood.""If you hurt her..." I started."I would never hurt my daughter," Mordain said. "Unlike you, who let her walk into danger again and again."Before I could respond, the hall doors burst open and more Eclipse wolves poured in. Dozens of them."Protect everyone!" Thorne shouted. But it was too late. The Eclipse wolves were already moving as they all surrounded Mordain."Anyone who interferes will die," Mordain announced while looking around the hall. I tried to move toward Selvara but one of the Eclipse
Selvara's POVWhen I opened my eyes, everything was dark. I tried to move but my body would not obey as my arms were heavy. I couldn't even remember what had happened earlier."She is waking," a voice said from somewhere nearby.Footsteps approached and then light appeared. A torch held by someone I could not see clearly."Welcome back, daughter," I heard Mordain's voice. My vision cleared slowly and I remembered I had fainted earlier, when I woke up again it was someone taking me away while chaos erupted where the convagence was held."Where am I?" I asked while my voice came out hoarse."Home," Mordain replied while stepping into the light so I could see him clearly. "The Eclipse territory. Where you were always meant to be."I tried to sit up but something held me down and I couldn't even sit up properly. "Let me go," I demanded."I will," Mordain said. "Once you understand and accept what you are.""I know what I am," I said. "And it is not this."He crouched beside me. Up close,
Selvara's POVWe had just an hour left, which was barely enough time to breathe, let alone prepare for what was coming.Thorne led us through the forest to a hidden camp where his people had set up temporary shelter. They brought water, clean clothes, and bandages.I cleaned the blood from my neck while Cara helped me into a simple white dress. It was ceremonial, Thorne said. It was also traditional for those presenting themselves before the Convergence."You look like a bride," Cara whispered while tying the last knot."I feel like I am walking to my execution," I replied.Zyros appeared in the doorway wearing a dark formal robe that made him look every bit the Alpha heir he was supposed to be. His eyes found mine immediately he got out."Are you ready?" he asked."No," I said honestly."Good," he replied. "Neither am I."Thorne cleared his throat from behind him. "We need to leave now. The Convergence does not wait."We rode horses through the forest toward the capital. The city loo
Selvara's POVI heard footsteps all of a sudden. Zyros had heard them too as he was already moving. He grabbed his sword from where it leaned against the wall.He walked slowly towards the entrance as I tried to look for any piece of clothing to cover myself with, but most of them were already torn from earlier. Before he could even get to the door, the door burst open and a figure stood there. We couldn't see his face, not because it was dark but because he was covering his face with a mask, but one thing that was clear is that there is a dagger in each of his hand."Found you," the figure said. Before either of us could react, more figures poured into the room and there were at least five of them.Zyros fought immediately and even though it was pretty dark, I could see him moving his sword around.I scrambled for my dress, anything to cover myself. One of the assassins lunged at me. I rolled off the bed and his dagger hit the mattress instead."Selvara!" Zyros shouted. He was fight
Selvara's POVWe found shelter in an abandoned hunter's cabin deep in the forest. Though it wasn't really a good place to stay, it was manageable as we could use it before the next day when the convergence would be happening.Flair posted guards outside while the rest of us collapsed inside. Everyone was exhausted and went to rest immediately. I had tried preparing something with the herbs I could find but looking around with the food ready, they were all asleep.Cara fell asleep immediately in the corner. Tharis sat by the door, his sword across his lap and Flair paced near the window with her arms crossed. Zyros stood by the fireplace, staring into flames that were not there yet.I walked over to him slowly. "We should start a fire." And he nodded but did not move."Zyros," I said softly while touching his arm. He flinched and then he turned to me and I saw the pain in his eyes. He looked at me for a while and I just smiled at him and urged him to say whatever he wanted to "I almos
