LOGINSelvara’s POV
With shaky hands, I opened the door. The shadow I saw reflecting under the door had long been gone, but his scent stayed in the hallway. With a tight breath, I slowly backed into the room and got in bed. Seconds passed and I was no longer comfortable in the room. It felt like it was choking life out of me. I slipped out of the bed quietly. The other omegas snored on, but I didn’t breathe until I crossed the hall. If Queen Celine found me out here again, she’d skin me alive. The back door creaked. I froze, two guards leaned against the wall, talking low. “…Zyros pushed the warriors harder today. If he keeps this up...” “Shh. Do you want trouble?” I pressed myself into the shadows until they moved off. My pulse hammered. One of the guards shifted suddenly, his nose lifting in the air. My stomach dropped. “Wait. Do you smell that?” he asked, sniffing. The other guard frowned. “You’re imagining things. Come on, before Zyros finds us slacking.” His eyes swept the shadows, too close to where I was pressed against the wall. I held my breath until my chest ached. If he moved one step closer, he would see me crouched there. Finally, with a grunt, they walked off. When they turned the corner, I slipped past, barefoot, into the night. The cold air hit me sharp. But that was what I wanted, a moment away from the pack. The moon was bright, and I could feel the air against my skin. For a moment, it almost felt peaceful. But my wolf stirred, restless, yet again. "What is it this time?" "Stop it!” I hissed under my breath. Mate. She said again, but louder this time. My hands trembled. "Leave me alone!” I muttered, hugging myself tighter. I was frustrated at that point that the slightest thing would make me burst into tears. I could hear the sound of crickets, owls, and the rustling of leaves. But under it all came another sound, it was faint. It was a scent. My wolf bristled. My knees locked, I was extremely scared. No one was allowed out of the pack at night, and I had sneaked out to be killed? Rogues? I whispered to myself, cursing under my breath. I swallowed, scanning the trees. My skin prickled as if eyes were on me. I could remember the last time Queen Celine caught me sneaking out, she had dragged me by my hair in front of all other wolves, stripped me, made my body wet with warm water and flogged me with whips countless times. I clenched my fists. I couldn’t go back. Not yet. But then, I had to choose my death... or simply put, my hell. The bushes rustled again, Then came the sound of rushing footsteps. Fast, coming straight for me. My heart leapt to my throat. My wolf bristled, claws digging at my skin. “Rogues,” I whispered, backing away. When the steps closed in, I lost it. A scream tore from my lungs, sharp and loud enough to wake the whole pack. A hand clamped over my mouth. It was strong and warm. I thrashed until a deep voice murmured against my ear. “It’s fine. It’s me.” I opened my eyes slowly as I turned to face him. For a while, I was just there staring at him, the scene played off a little slowly. His palm stayed firm, but his other hand brushed through my hair slowly, steadying me. My body went still under his touch. I blinked up at him, breathless, heat flooding my face. Then I shoved his hand away and stumbled back fast, putting space between us. “Selvara.” he said as he came a little closer and I moved to the back again. “You shouldn’t be here,” he added. “Neither should you,” I shot back before I could stop myself. I had grown a lot of courage, enough to speak back to the Alpha Heir. I really was getting too comfortable. He didn’t smile, he didn’t move. His voice was low as he came close to me by a step. “You've been acting really weird these days.” “I’m not.” “You have.” Zyros took a step closer. The pull between us snapped tight. My chest ached, my wolf howling inside. Mate, Mate. It went on and on. I stumbled back until my shoulders hit a tree. “Go back, Zyros.” He stopped in front of me. His scent wrapped around me, making me dizzy. “You feel it,” he said. That was obviously not a question. “No.” it was a lie, we both knew it was. Zyros lifted a hand slowly, as if giving me time to move. My heart slammed against my ribs. His fingers hovered inches from my face, the heat of them brushing my cheek. I turned red all over. For one breathless second, I almost let him. I wanted him. Then fear cut through. I shoved off the tree and pushed past him, nearly tripping. “Selvara.” His voice followed, rough and low. I didn’t stop. I ran through the grass, lungs burning. The Pack house lights were faint ahead. My wolf screamed in my head, tangled with his growl still echoing in my chest. But just as I pushed harder, something hard caught my leg. My head spun, I gasped as the world tilted. My body slammed to the ground, breath torn out of me. ______Selvara's POVWe just knew we had to run and Zyros grabbed my arms immediately and we escaped through the closest entrance to us. Zyros and I ran for hours without stopping and I clung to his fur as we climbed higher into the mountains.Behind us I could still hear Eclipse warriors giving chase but they were falling further back. Zyros was faster than all of them. Finally he slowed and shifted back to human form. I slid off his back and my legs nearly gave out."We cannot keep running," I gasped. "They will catch us eventually.""I know," Zyros said. "We need to find shelter. Somewhere to hide until we figure out our next move." Behind us I could hear Queen Celine's guards getting closer."There," Zyros pointed to a narrow opening between two large boulders."We can slip through there. They might miss it."We squeezed through the gap and found ourselves in a small cave. It was dark and damp but it would have to do. Zyros pushed a loose rock across the entrance to partially hide it.
Selvara's POVWe left the cabin within minutes as there was no time to rest, no time to process what Tharis had told us. The three witches were dead and also summons from the Dragon Clans about something that was starting to turn into a mystery. Everything was spiraling out of control again."How far are the Northern Peaks?" Zyros asked while we saddled the horses."Two days of hard riding," Tharis replied. "Maybe less if we don't stop.""We can't afford to stop," I said. "If someone killed the witches who broke my binding, they might come for us next.""Agreed," Zyros said. He helped me onto my horse and mounted his own. "Let's move.""What do you think it means?" I had asked Zyros during one brief stop to rest the horses. "I don't know," he admitted. "But I don't like it. If the binding wasn't the real threat...""Then what is?" I finished but he had no answer either. We rode on and by dawn we had reached the foothills of the Northern Peaks."The Dragon messenger said to meet at th
Selvara's POVWe rode until we found an abandoned hunting cabin deep in the forest. Zyros checked inside to make sure it was safe before helping me down from the horse. My legs were shaky and I nearly fell but he caught me. "Easy. You have been through a lot." He said as he carried me in his arms."We both have," I replied.Inside the cabin was dusty but dry. There was a fireplace with wood already stacked beside it. Zyros got a fire going while I collapsed onto the single bed in the corner. "How do you feel?" he asked while sitting beside me. "Free," I said. "For the first time in weeks, my mind is my own again." "I am sorry it took so long," he said. "I should have found a way to reach you sooner.""You saved me," I replied. "That is what matters."I looked at him properly for the first time since the binding broke. He had cuts all over his face and arms. His clothes were torn and bloodstained and dark circles all over his eyes."You look terrible," I said softly."So do you," h
Zyros's POVEveryone nodded as the witches stayed close to me and I took a deep breath and stepped out of the trees. I walked straight toward the Eclipse camp with my sword drawn. The guards spotted me immediately. "Intruder! Sound the alarm!"Horns blared as warriors poured out of tents. Within seconds I was surrounded by at least fifty Eclipse wolves."Where is Selvara?" I demanded. "Where is Mordain keeping her?"One of the warriors laughed. "You walk into our camp alone and make demands? You are either very brave or very stupid.""Both," I admitted. "Now where is she?"Before they could answer, Mordain himself emerged from the largest tent. And beside him was Selvara with her eyes still blank just exactly as I had seen it yesterday l."Zyros," Mordain said with amusement. "I did not expect you to survive our last encounter. Color me impressed.""Let her go," I said."No," Mordain replied simply. "She belongs to me now.""She belongs to no one," I said. "Especially not you."Mordai
Zyros's POVI turned and ran like Vyra had told me to. The Eclipse warriors closed in from all sides and I fought through them while searching for any path to escape."Zyros, this way!" Tharis shouted while cutting down two Eclipse wolves. We ran toward the inner walls but the Eclipse army was everywhere. For every warrior we killed, three more appeared."We are surrounded!" Flair yelled. She was right as there was no escape. No freaking way out. I turned back toward where I had left Selvara and saw her standing motionless with Mordain's hand still on her shoulder. Her eyes were still blank"I am sorry," I whispered even though she could not hear me. "I failed you."Then something massive crashed into the Eclipse forces from behind. Warriors scattered as a huge shape tore through their ranks. It was Zephyra in dragon form. She roared and breathed fire across the battlefield."The dragon!" someone screamed. "Fall back!" The Eclipse warriors retreated from Zephyra's flames and in the c
Zyros's POVI knew we were going for a losing battle, but what would you do when your loved one is in the hands of those that want to do nothing but take advantage of what she has? Three hundred against our seventy? We were definitely going to be slaughtered."There is something else," Nox said quietly. "A message came. From inside the Eclipse forces." She said"What message?" I asked."Someone in Mordain's army wants to help us," she said. "A general named Vyra. She says she can weaken the binding on Selvara during the battle. Do give her a chance to break free.""Can we trust her?" I asked."I do not know," Nox admitted. "But she mentioned my sister. Said Nyx is still alive and that is not information anyone outside the resistance would have.""Resistance?" I repeated."There are Eclipse wolves who want Mordain dead," Nox explained. "They are waiting for the right moment to strike.""Then we give them that moment," I said. The sun began to rise and in the distance I saw them. They w
