Selvara's POV

The party ended hours ago, yet I was wide awake. How could I sleep when the whispered I’s over looped in my head until I was seconds away from running mad.

‘Zyros will ruin himself if the rumors are true.’ ‘A fated mate too close to home?’

They hadn’t said my name, but they didn’t need to. I knew. And my wolf knew too. She hadn’t stopped repeating the word since last night; Mate. It thrummed in my chest, heavy and sharp, like a curse I couldn’t shake off.

'No,” I whispered quietly. My voice was so small it barely reached my own ears. “Not him. Not Zyros.” I added it almost immediately. I rolled restlessly on my bed until sleep finally got me.

The morning came way too soon. I didn't bother to check the time I slept, but I knew it wasn't long ago.

I looked wrecked. Puffy eyes, aching head, hands that wouldn’t stay steady. I got off the bed and made my way to the toilet, had a quick bath and rushed to join the rest of the Omegas in the kitchen, as our daily routine was.

Queen Celine caught me there when the other Omegas were rushing about with trays of food.

“Do you enjoy humiliating me?” she whispered in a way that I only get to hear those words.

“I wasn’t...”

“Don’t speak.” She cut me short. “Do your work, Selvara. Stay in your lane, It’s all you’re good for.”

The omegas smirked behind her, and I hated them for it. I was used to being alone, not only was I maltreated by the Alpha's family, but also by other Omegas, save Ravenna whose room is next to mine.

By midday, I had found an excuse to carry water out to the warriors. I told myself it was just a duty. But the truth was uglier than that. I wanted to see him again, and there he was.

Zyros was in the courtyard, sparring with warriors. I watched him keenly.

His shirt clung to his chest, every line of muscle shifting with each strike. His arms flexed, veins standing out, and I felt heat crawl up my neck. The loose tie of his training bottoms hung low on his hips, and for a heartbeat, all I could do was stare.

My wolf stirred instantly, a low whine curling in my chest. She wanted closer. She wanted him.

I bit the inside of my cheek hard, trying to force the thoughts away. But the pull only worsened. Every step he took, every swing of his blade, it was like my body was answering to him in ways I couldn’t control.

The heat pull hit me so hard my knees almost buckled. My chest went tight, my stomach turned, my heart thundered in my ears like it wanted to break free. I gripped the jug tighter, praying no one could see how bad my hands were shaking.

Don’t look, don’t look, don’t....Fangs! My eyes never listened.

“Selvara.” Zyros’s voice was right behind me. The jug almost slipped. Queen Celine would kill me if I broke any more of her ceramics.

I turned, slowly. He was close. Too close. I could feel the heat rolling off him. “Zyros.” My throat closed on the word.

“You’ve been avoiding me.” His tone was flat, but his eyes, damn his eyes, they locked on mine, pulling me in.

“I haven’t,” I said. My voice cracked.

“You have.”

He stepped forward and my whole body jolted. That invisible thread yanked harder, pulling my heart toward him until I could barely breathe.

I panicked, shoving myself back against the wall. “You’re the heir to this Pack. I can’t be seen with you.” I whispered.

Zyros leaned closer, voice low. “We need to talk.”

“No.” My throat was dry. “We don’t.”

For a long second, he didn’t move. I thought he’d press, force it out of me. Instead, his jaw tightened, and he stepped back.

“Fine."

I bolted before my legs gave out. My heart wouldn’t calm until I was far, far away. But even then, the pull still burned.

 *****

The moon was full, the forest was bright from its light. My wolf paced beneath my skin, restlessly. Then Zyros appeared through the trees, bare-chested, his eyes glowing like molten fire.

He didn’t need to speak. He didn’t need to do anything. That bond, that invisible string, dragged me straight to him.

I felt his scent before his hands touched me, wild, sharp and overwhelming. It made my head spin. His palm slid to my cheek, warm and steady, and the world seemed to fall away. My skin burned where he touched me,

My body trembled, not in fear, but in surrender. “Mine,” he growled, low and rough, the sound vibrating through my chest.

And then his mouth crashed onto mine.

It wasn’t soft. It wasn’t gentle. It was fierce, desperate, like he had been waiting for this moment his whole life. His lips moved against mine with a hunger that stole every breath I had left.

The bond snapped tight between us, so sharp and sudden it hurt. My wolf howled, wild inside me, clawing at the edges of my control. She wanted him.

I melted into him, my hands lifting before I even thought to stop them. My fingers fumbled at his chest, snapping open the first button of his shirt. His skin was hot under my touch, and when his hand slid down my side, gripping my waist firmly....

*********

I woke with a jolt, gasping. Sweat clung to my skin, my sheets twisted around me like chains.

And worst of all, his name slipped out of me. “Zyros…”

My hand flew to my mouth, but too late. The word was out. The pull in my chest thrummed harder than ever, alive. I pressed my palms against my heart, trying to hold it still. It only pounded louder.

I buried my face in the pillow, shaking, choking back tears.

This couldn’t happen. No one could know that Zyros is my mate. It wouldn’t just destroy me. It would destroy him too.

  • Cursed Bond of the Alpha   Chapter 80: The witches' price

Selvara's POVWe just knew we had to run and Zyros grabbed my arms immediately and we escaped through the closest entrance to us. Zyros and I ran for hours without stopping and I clung to his fur as we climbed higher into the mountains.Behind us I could still hear Eclipse warriors giving chase but they were falling further back. Zyros was faster than all of them. Finally he slowed and shifted back to human form. I slid off his back and my legs nearly gave out."We cannot keep running," I gasped. "They will catch us eventually.""I know," Zyros said. "We need to find shelter. Somewhere to hide until we figure out our next move." Behind us I could hear Queen Celine's guards getting closer."There," Zyros pointed to a narrow opening between two large boulders."We can slip through there. They might miss it."We squeezed through the gap and found ourselves in a small cave. It was dark and damp but it would have to do. Zyros pushed a loose rock across the entrance to partially hide it.

  • Cursed Bond of the Alpha   Chapter 79: The journey north

Selvara's POVWe left the cabin within minutes as there was no time to rest, no time to process what Tharis had told us. The three witches were dead and also summons from the Dragon Clans about something that was starting to turn into a mystery. Everything was spiraling out of control again."How far are the Northern Peaks?" Zyros asked while we saddled the horses."Two days of hard riding," Tharis replied. "Maybe less if we don't stop.""We can't afford to stop," I said. "If someone killed the witches who broke my binding, they might come for us next.""Agreed," Zyros said. He helped me onto my horse and mounted his own. "Let's move.""What do you think it means?" I had asked Zyros during one brief stop to rest the horses. "I don't know," he admitted. "But I don't like it. If the binding wasn't the real threat...""Then what is?" I finished but he had no answer either. We rode on and by dawn we had reached the foothills of the Northern Peaks."The Dragon messenger said to meet at th

  • Cursed Bond of the Alpha   Chapter 78: A moment of peace and pleasure

Selvara's POVWe rode until we found an abandoned hunting cabin deep in the forest. Zyros checked inside to make sure it was safe before helping me down from the horse. My legs were shaky and I nearly fell but he caught me. "Easy. You have been through a lot." He said as he carried me in his arms."We both have," I replied.Inside the cabin was dusty but dry. There was a fireplace with wood already stacked beside it. Zyros got a fire going while I collapsed onto the single bed in the corner. "How do you feel?" he asked while sitting beside me. "Free," I said. "For the first time in weeks, my mind is my own again." "I am sorry it took so long," he said. "I should have found a way to reach you sooner.""You saved me," I replied. "That is what matters."I looked at him properly for the first time since the binding broke. He had cuts all over his face and arms. His clothes were torn and bloodstained and dark circles all over his eyes."You look terrible," I said softly."So do you," h

  • Cursed Bond of the Alpha   Chapter 77: Fighting a close enemy

Zyros's POVEveryone nodded as the witches stayed close to me and I took a deep breath and stepped out of the trees. I walked straight toward the Eclipse camp with my sword drawn. The guards spotted me immediately. "Intruder! Sound the alarm!"Horns blared as warriors poured out of tents. Within seconds I was surrounded by at least fifty Eclipse wolves."Where is Selvara?" I demanded. "Where is Mordain keeping her?"One of the warriors laughed. "You walk into our camp alone and make demands? You are either very brave or very stupid.""Both," I admitted. "Now where is she?"Before they could answer, Mordain himself emerged from the largest tent. And beside him was Selvara with her eyes still blank just exactly as I had seen it yesterday l."Zyros," Mordain said with amusement. "I did not expect you to survive our last encounter. Color me impressed.""Let her go," I said."No," Mordain replied simply. "She belongs to me now.""She belongs to no one," I said. "Especially not you."Mordai

  • Cursed Bond of the Alpha   Chapter 76: The battle field

Zyros's POVI turned and ran like Vyra had told me to. The Eclipse warriors closed in from all sides and I fought through them while searching for any path to escape."Zyros, this way!" Tharis shouted while cutting down two Eclipse wolves. We ran toward the inner walls but the Eclipse army was everywhere. For every warrior we killed, three more appeared."We are surrounded!" Flair yelled. She was right as there was no escape. No freaking way out. I turned back toward where I had left Selvara and saw her standing motionless with Mordain's hand still on her shoulder. Her eyes were still blank"I am sorry," I whispered even though she could not hear me. "I failed you."Then something massive crashed into the Eclipse forces from behind. Warriors scattered as a huge shape tore through their ranks. It was Zephyra in dragon form. She roared and breathed fire across the battlefield."The dragon!" someone screamed. "Fall back!" The Eclipse warriors retreated from Zephyra's flames and in the c

  • Cursed Bond of the Alpha   Chapter 75: Fighting a loosing battle

Zyros's POVI knew we were going for a losing battle, but what would you do when your loved one is in the hands of those that want to do nothing but take advantage of what she has? Three hundred against our seventy? We were definitely going to be slaughtered."There is something else," Nox said quietly. "A message came. From inside the Eclipse forces." She said"What message?" I asked."Someone in Mordain's army wants to help us," she said. "A general named Vyra. She says she can weaken the binding on Selvara during the battle. Do give her a chance to break free.""Can we trust her?" I asked."I do not know," Nox admitted. "But she mentioned my sister. Said Nyx is still alive and that is not information anyone outside the resistance would have.""Resistance?" I repeated."There are Eclipse wolves who want Mordain dead," Nox explained. "They are waiting for the right moment to strike.""Then we give them that moment," I said. The sun began to rise and in the distance I saw them. They w
