The next morning, by the time Sage woke up to her blaring alarm, Kael was nowhere to be found. It was as if he never slept on her bed at all. But she knew he did. She could still feel his scent lingering in the air. She didn't have time to dwell on that. Quickly, she did her morning routine and got dressed in skinny jeans and a top. She rushed downstairs and found Vanessa and Alexander near the dining area.

"Sage, come have breakfast," Vanessa invited, but Sage was already late.

"I am late, Aunt Vanessa. Morning, Uncle Alexander, good bye" she rushed out and boarded the Black car, which was already waiting for her. Vanessa ran outside holding a box.

"Sage, eat this in the car." She handed over the box. Sage accepted the breakfast and kissed Vanessa's cheek. Vanessa smiled softly.

"All the best with your exam, my dear," she wished and waved Sage goodbye.

Sage is studying medicine. She finished her graduation and post-graduation in just under 3 years, and she now holds a valid medical degree.

She is the genius who can heal almost all kinds of ailments in Shifters, including wolves and dragons. Her thesis won an award too. Now, she is planning to do her PHD with Dr. Alberto, a world-renowned doctor who is now researching beastless shifters who are born without their beasts.

Sage wouldn't have pursued medicine if she were not determined to heal Vanessa. Her grandfather Alcazar was her first teacher, and he still is. He taught her a lot. Unlike kids her age, she stopped being a child after that night. Her only goal was to find a cure. No parties, no friends. Sage would have been a loner if not for Nadia, Kael's younger sister.

Sage attended the exam and finished it half an hour before time. She was positive that she would be able to get this slot.

"Sage," Professor Alberto called her as soon as Sage exited the exam hall.

She gave the old professor a bright smile. He is a shifter too, but he doesn't have a beast.

"Professor, good morning," she greeted him.

"I hope the questions were not too tough. I am waiting for you to join my team," he teased her.

She smiled at his words.

"They were not. I am confident that I would score the highest," she replied.

There is only one spot left on his team, and a hundred candidates are waiting to join his team. She is one among them. If Alberto could select a student himself, he would have selected Sage. But the college has to be fair and give an equal opportunity to everyone. Hence the exam.

They chatted about the research for a while before he got a call, and he had to leave.

"Look who it is. A pathetic loser," Cindy Sinclair, Kael's cousin, sneered from not too far away. She was accompanied by Laila and her older brother Lucas. To say that the dragons are dominant beings in the shifter world would be an understatement. Wolves and Lycans are the second best. Humans are the weakest. But now, without her powers, Sage is just like any other human there. Powerless.

"If it's not Ms. Sinclair who is still trying to clear her sophomore year's papers. I wonder who is really pathetic here," Sage fired back. Sage might not have her powers, but still she is a princess, and her stature is higher than Cindy and Laila and the others. She refused to take shit from anyone.

Cindy's face turned bright red with embarrassment. Failing her exams despite having the best resources is shameful.

"You..." Cindy glared at Sage with pure venom. She extended her dragon claws as if she was planning to harm Sage.

"Cindy, what are you doing? We know she should not be harmed physically," Laila reminded her.

Sage smirked. Kael is a bully, but only he gets to bully her. He doesn't allow anyone else to touch her. Sage is not a fool. He is only protecting her because Vanessa needs her, at least that's what Sage thinks.

"Oops..." Sage mocked Cindy before she walked away, leaving a fuming she-dragon behind.

"Why does cousin Kael treat her so well? She is weak and pathetic" Cindy complained.

"I don't know either" Laila replied hiding the burn of jealousy inside her.

In the Black Towers, which are in Kael's Empire, he built them from scratch. Unlike all the rich dragons, Kael rose to fame through his own hard work. He is a genius architect. His firm is one of the leading architecture companies in the world. The Black Towers stand as an example of modern art, which was designed by Kael himself. It's an 80-floor tower of luxury with aesthetics to match.

He looked extremely handsome in his black suit that hugged his frame perfectly. He has that aura of the Alpha, which makes everyone feel intimidated. His aura announces his presence before anyone else can.

"They are already waiting inside. Once we secure this project, we will get a spot in the top ten list of the Fortune 500 companies in the world," Michael said from beside Kael. Michael is Kael's advisor and his childhood friend. He is the vice president of the Black group.

"The final presentation is on my laptop. Get my laptop ready," Kael instructed his assistant, Lena Steward. She is in her early twenties. She is a low-level dragon with limited powers. Dragons are three types: black, orange, and green. Alpha Dragons are black, while mid- to average-level Dragons are orange. Dragons without a beast are green. They have heightened senses, but cannot shift.

"Yes, boss," Lena replied. She pulled his laptop from the laptop bag while she entered the private elevator with Kael and Michael. The moment she removed the laptop, water started dripping down from the laptop.

"What the...?" Michael muttered in shock.

Kael, on the other hand, looked pissed. In the small space, his anger felt like a living and breathing entity. His laptop had the presentation for his upcoming meeting, which was very important to him. And Sage ruined his laptop.

Instantly, the temperature inside the elevator soared a few degrees. Kael's gaze flashed orange with his suppressed ire.

"I will take this to the tech team. We can revive the important files. Looks like Sage bathed your laptop this morning. How thoughtful of her," Michael said, reading Kael's anger. Both Kael and Michael both knew who would have done this.

"B...boss, shall I postpone..." Lena asked hesitantly.
