Chapter 9: Suffering an Injustice

Yvonne Harrington didn't know how she got home, but she found herself back in the warmest place.

Here, it was a haven where she would never be hurt.

The smell of food wafted over, and Yvonne Harrington's stomach grumbled. She carefully prepared to go to the kitchen to take a look, but was discovered by the little one who heard the noise.

With a cold glance, Joanne Harrington still sat on the sofa watching cartoons, without moving an inch.

"You still know how to come back? Tell me, where did you go?"

Joanne Harrington asked with a childish tone, her chubby face full of dissatisfaction.

When she woke up, her sister cried for her mother. He held his sister's hand and walked around the house, but there was no sign of Mommy. Fortunately, their aunt came over and comforted her sister until she calmed down.

"Baby, Mom went out to do some errands, isn't she back now?"

Yvonne Harrington rushed over, reached out to pinch Joanne Harrington's cheeks, and then leaned down to give her a big kiss.

A helpless smile finally appeared on the little one's face.

"Don't let this happen again!"

"Okay!"

Yvonne Harrington extended her hand to make a hook with Joanne Harrington, while Jodie Harringtoner, who had grown tired of playing with toys, jumped into her arms and rubbed against her.

"Yunchu..."

Behind her, a familiar voice came, and Yvonne Harrington's hands holding the child stiffened for a few seconds before returning to normal.

"Auntie!"

Yvonne Harrington exclaimed, turned her head and saw Nicole Rudolph wearing an apron just coming out of the kitchen, with several dishes already on the table.

She didn't know if it was because they hadn't seen each other for many years, but Auntie looked even older. She remembered that Auntie used to be very elegant.

"Auntie, I miss you so much!"

Yvonne Harrington prepared to rush over for a warm hug while holding Jodie Harringtoner, but Nicole Rudolph quickly waved her hand, with a kind smile on her face.

"Take the children to wash your hands first, and then we can catch up after dinner."

Yvonne Harrington looked at Nicole Rudolph and nodded.

For many years, since Yvonne Harrington could remember, she had never eaten such delicious home-cooked meals. She disregarded her usual dignified image and stuffed whatever she picked up into her mouth.

"Yunchu, eat slowly, no one is fighting with you!"

Nicole Rudolph sat across from her, looking at her with a mix of amusement and concern.

"Joanne, did you suffer any injustice outside?"

Joanne Harrington 'slammed' her chopsticks down, her black eyes locked onto Yvonne Harrington's extremely patient face.

Her eyes were red around the rims, as if she was holding back tears.

Jodie Harringtoner also put down her chopsticks, looking at Yvonne Harrington with confusion.

Seeing the three people at the dinner table all showing genuine concern for her, Yvonne Harrington felt even more choked up, and the grievances she had suffered at the Qiao family suddenly threatened to burst. She took a deep breath, showing her standard eight teeth, but it was uglier than crying.

"Kids, hurry up and eat. Your mother is angry because you're not eating!"

Nicole Rudolph immediately stepped in to mediate.

"Really?"

Joanne Harrington whispered uncertainly.

"Hmm!"

Yvonne Harrington nodded vigorously.

Sure enough, as the elder brother, Joanne Harrington began to eat his bowl of food seriously, and Jodie Harringtoner, watching her brother, quickly followed suit.

Yvonne Harrington wiped away her tears and smiled.

After dinner, the two little ones were running around the house.

Yvonne Harrington then pulled Nicole Rudolph to sit on the sofa to rest.

"Auntie, how did you come here? Weren't you supposed to live with your son?"

Upon hearing this, Nicole Rudolph shook her head helplessly and sighed.

"I only have one son, so naturally I want to take care of him wholeheartedly, but... his wife doesn't like me. We had an argument last night, and I couldn't bear the anger. I packed my things today and came back."

The middle-aged woman's face was full of sorrow.

Yvonne Harrington hugged her and pouted at Nicole Rudolph's neck.

"Auntie, it's great that you're back. Now I only have you as family. Let's never separate again!"

"Dumb child." Nicole Rudolph patted Yvonne Harrington's back.

Yvonne Harrington had just returned home, and her demeanor was clearly off. Nicole Rudolph didn't want to ask too much. The grievances she had outside, she didn't want to talk about, and if others asked, it would only hurt her more.
