Andrew Kingston arrived at Kingston Group at exactly two o'clock the following afternoon.

Alexander watched through the glass walls of his office as his uncle crossed reception. Andrew wore a charcoal suit and an old leather watch, carrying neither a briefcase nor a folder. He had requested the meeting himself, yet appeared entirely unhurried.

"Has the board secretary confirmed the appointment?" Alexander asked Nathan.

"Yes. The meeting is recorded, and the legal department knows the discussion

Andrew left the house shortly after eight. He hadn't slept well the previous night. He had spent much of the night reviewing names, addresses, and old business connections, trying to determine where Victor might have kept records that had never passed through Kingston Group’s official archive. Marcus had given him nothing new, but that did not mean there was nothing to find. His first stop was the former office of one of the companies used during the old restructuring arrangements. The business had been dissolved years ago, its operations absorbed by another firm, but Andrew remembered the building and the people who had handled its accounts. The address had barely changed. The company sign was gone, replaced by the name of a property management firm. Inside, the reception area had been renovated, and the woman behind the desk looked at him with polite uncertainty when he asked about the former tenant."That company hasn't operated here in years," she explained. "Most of its old recor

Andrew tossed beneath the sheets, his breathing uneven as his fingers tightened around the fabric. In his dream, he was standing inside a courtroom. The room was crowded, but he couldn't make out the faces. At the far end, a judge sat behind an elevated bench while several documents lay spread across the table before him. Andrew tried to move closer, but his feet seemed unwilling to obey.A voice came from somewhere behind him."Your name is in the records."He turned sharply.Another voice followed."Victor has already told us everything."Andrew looked towards the table. One of the documents had been opened, and although he couldn't read the words, he recognized the signature at the bottom. It was his own. He tried to reach for it, but the papers were pulled away before he could touch them. The courtroom doors opened, and several people turned towards him. Then he heard his name again."Andrew Kingston."He woke with a sharp intake of breath. For a moment, he remained motionless, st

Alexander had been thinking about Marcus’s reports for most of the morning. Marcus had been instructed to give information Andrew would expect to hear, but Alexander was beginning to wonder what happened when a man like Andrew heard it too often.“Have Marcus send us every report he has given Andrew since this arrangement began,” Alexander said.Nathan looked up from the tablet in his hands. “Every report?”“All of them. I want to see exactly what Andrew has been told, not what Marcus has told us.”Nathan understood the distinction. He took out his phone and sent Marcus a brief message requesting copies of the reports. Marcus responded within minutes.Nathan opened the files on his computer, and Alexander moved closer to examine the screen. There were several reports, each dated and arranged in a clear sequence. They covered Victor’s behavior at the correctional facility, his meetings with legal representatives, and the absence of any obvious attempt to contact people outside the inst

Evelyn Laurent refused to touch the coffee her lawyer placed in front of her.“Tell me exactly what they have,” she said.Julian Hale settled into the chair opposite her in the consultation room. “You asked me to retrieve the records you identified. I've located some of them, but I won't tell you they're enough to establish everything the prosecution wants to know.”“I'm not asking you to promise me a miracle, Julian. I'm asking whether the records still exist.”“Some do. Others are missing, and a few have been moved from their original storage locations.”Evelyn's fingers tightened around the edge of the table.“Which ones did you find?”“The legal clearances you signed. Copies of the transfer approvals. Meeting records from the period when you were Chief Legal Officer, and correspondence relating to the Kingston trust.”For the first time since Julian had entered, Evelyn looked relieved.“Then we can proceed.”“Not until you understand something.” He leaned forward. “These documents

Elliot Shaw glanced at his phone as Michael arrived with a briefcase and a laptop bag. Three days had passed since Victor Moretti had given his lawyer instructions to retrieve the records.Victor was already waiting when the guard unlocked the consultation room. He stood before the door had fully opened.Michael opened the folder and turned it towards Victor. “The transfer schedules, payment instructions, and correspondence from the Ashford Club meeting are all here.”Victor sat down and examined the documents. When he reached a transfer authorization, his expression tightened.“I remember this transaction. I approved the payment, but I didn't create the authorization behind it.”“Can you prove who did?”“Not from this document alone.”Michael waited.“But the original records may establish who had access to the authorization system,” Victor continued. “Give Claire everything. Let her trace it properly.”Elliot tapped his screen, saving the time, then returned his attention to the mes

Victor Moretti pushed his breakfast aside when the correctional officer called his name.“Your lawyer is waiting in the consultation room.”Victor stood so quickly that his chair scraped against the floor.“Michael?”“That's what the schedule says. Move.”Victor followed him through the corridor, past two locked doors and a row of narrow windows. When the officer unlocked the consultation room, Michael was already seated at the table with a leather briefcase beside him.Victor pulled out the chair opposite him.“You came.”“You requested an urgent meeting.” Michael glanced at the untouched breakfast tray Victor had carried in from the dining area. “I assume you have finally decided to tell me something useful.”Victor sat down. “I need you to get everything.”“Everything concerning what?”“Andrew Kingston.”Michael placed his briefcase on the table and opened it.“You have made accusations against him before, Victor. The problem is that accusations are not enough. If you want the pros
