Se connecterI stood behind the rifle, eyeing my target through the lens. He was still sitting at the dining table. Most of the plates were empty. I could be sure my target was full and satisfied.
Wasn’t I kind? I gave him a happy ending before sending him to his creator.
“Madam, don’t bend over near him.”
My index finger was right on the trigger. I timed how long it would take for my bullet to penetrate his skull. It depended heavily on the wind speed. And lucky for me, it was as smooth as a baby's bottom.
“I warned you, madam.”
Bang!
The sound wouldn't have been heard from across the building, but my bullet had hit the poor guy's skull.
The bitch screamed hysterically a second after the guy's body collapsed in front of her with brains splattered all over her face. She was completely hysterical and ran out of her room in panic, as if she saw the death reaper standing right in front of her.
I grabbed my other phone and sent a message in the chat room on my web portal. My client replied shortly after and promised to send the rest of the payment in an hour at the latest because he was in the middle of a meeting.
Okay. If he wanted to break his promise, he knew my reputation very well. So, he shouldn't have lied to me. I would try to believe him.
Honestly, I've never trusted anyone in my entire life since my father left the family and abandoned us. My teacher, who was also my uncle, taught me never to trust anyone because no one deserved my trust. Even my own uncle forbade me to trust him because the circumstances around us were changing so quickly. Friends could become enemies or vice versa, enemies could become friends. Nothing was certain in the underworld. Everything was done for personal gain.
I didn't waste time packing my things because I had to get out of this building before the police started their investigation.
My rifle turned into a medium-sized suitcase in an instant. It was one of my genius inventions. Who would have thought that a suitcase could turn into a dangerous weapon? Most of the time, I designed and created the weapons that I used to kill my targets. I reproduced some and sold them to the American government and some people abroad. But I certainly didn't sell my best work. This one weapon was only owned by me. I wouldn't be so careless as to sell this smart weapon to people who would potentially know my identity as a hitman.
After leaving my unit smoothly, I walked to the basement. I placed some bombs randomly to cars that looked interesting to me. This apartment was mostly owned by rich people. You could tell that the cars in this basement were not cheap cars. But I was sure they wouldn't lose anything if I blew up one of their sports cars. They could buy another one in seconds after their car turned into scrap metal.
I climbed into the white sedan after throwing my suitcase into the passenger seat. It was just a regular car that I could see on the street. Law enforcement wouldn’t suspect me once I joined the other cars on the highway.
The remote for my bombs was ready in my hand as I drove out of the apartment building. There was a commotion at the hotel where the man was staying. An ambulance had just arrived and paramedics were running out in panic. Hell, as if they could save the poor man’s life, but they couldn’t.
I passed police cars after five minutes of driving north, heading towards the airport. Those bunch of idiots were going to find a lot of surprises from me. Starting with the poor man’s body, then a bunch of explosions from the basement of the luxury apartment, and they were going to get a bunch of complaints from rich people who felt their lives were in danger.
I pressed the remote in my hand without hesitation. I could imagine the cars exploding all at once and causing a scene that shook downtown Las Vegas. Too bad I wasn't there to witness the panic. What would people have thought? A terrorist attack? A suicide bombing? Or some shitty political thing that usually always takes lives when things don't go according to plan? Whatever it was, I would never be involved in that mess. Never.
I had been in the business for years. I always played it clean. I never left a single piece of evidence at the scene. The police would never get anything but disappointment because their investigations ended in dead ends. Most cases just disappear after the statute of limitations expires. The victim's family would forget about it as time went by.
Here we are. I’m back at Harry Reid on my flight to Hawaii. My phone just buzzed softly. My client just sent me a receipt for the remaining payment. I didn’t respond to his text and quickly closed the portal I’d been using to contact him for the past week. He wouldn’t have a digital trace of this job on his phone. I would be off his radar forever, unless he contacted my assistant again for another job. But I had never worked for the same client more than once. That would put my identity at risk.
Twenty-four hours in Vegas was pretty awesome. I hit the casino and won five hundred thousand dollars in a single game of poker that was almost too easy for me. Time to go back to my Claire who was waiting in Hawaii. I would be there for her as a good stepdad while she mourned her mother.
Fuck
Of all the masks I wore, this one was the one I hated the most. I would pretend to mourn Karina's death, while deep inside I was celebrating her death. My years of grudge against her were over.
Rest in peace, Mom.
The warning alarm on my phone rang. All the nerves in my body woke up and were on alert. Someone was entering my study without my permission.I quickly took out my phone to check it. Seth, who was explaining some technical stuff to me, stopped with a frown.“Wait a sec, Seth.”“Something happened, boss?”“Just a warning alarm that suddenly went off.”“Did someone break into your house?”“I don’t think so.”I grinned after checking all my cameras. Claire was apparently walking around my study. This was the first time she had entered my study after she became part of the family. I could feel her curiosity towards me was very high. She used to be almost indifferent to me, and vice versa. After I tried to approach her and get to know her better, she started to notice my presence. She saw me as… Not a stepfather. Not even close. She saw me as a man she admired from afar.“So who has entered your territory without permission?”“My stepdaughter. She might need something. Take a ten minute br
Olivia was busy with her phone in an instant. I was sure she wouldn’t find anything wow about Raviel on Google because I’ve tried it before. The information I found about him on Google was minimal. Even after I searched LinkedIn a hundred times to find out about him, it still didn’t give me a clue about what Raviel Marshal was like out there. His bio only briefly stated that he was a businessman from LA. Raviel didn’t even list his home address, and only listed his office address in downtown LA.But I never even tried to go to his office because I didn’t really pay much attention to him before. He was just someone who came and went from this house regularly, but we rarely talked too deeply. Our closeness only started last week. Literally last week, before the trip to Hawaii that ended tragically. You could say he was never on my radar. But after getting to know him better and after the various conversations we had, I became more curious about the real him.Who is he? Is he really the
I jumped out of bed after reading a message from Olivia. She was right outside my house. No, Raviel's house. I didn’t have a house. I could stay here because of my Mom.I stopped in front of the mirror to make sure I looked okay. My eyes had returned to normal after being swollen for days from crying too much. Last night my eyes even looked like frog eyes. Yeah, I was still grieving, but I realized that crying wouldn't bring my mother back. I just hoped that my mother would rest in peace in heaven. My blouse was a bit wrinkled because I had been lying on the bed while waiting for Olivia to come. I hadn't had any work to do since Alberta came back to work at this house. She even came last night and immediately cooked dinner for me and Raviel. Alberta was so excited. She expressed her condolences to me for my mother's death. She was truly a noble woman. She didn't hold any hatred towards my mother at all after what my mother did to her.My mother accused Alberta of stealing her pearl ea
I checked every monitor that was connected to every corner of this house. All clear. No threats approaching. I placed two CCTVs in Claire's room and a bug. Every time I was in this room, I never missed the opportunity to watch her. Claire was unpacking her suitcase and throwing all her dirty clothes into the laundry basket. Claire was a straight woman. She never did anything weird in her room other than...Other than what I saw right now.My lips twitched, grinning at what Claire was doing.I leaned back in my throne and watched Claire as she took off her mourning clothes layer by layer. I guess she was going to take a shower. She must be hot after being outside in the hot sun and dealing with several mourners who were mostly Karina's friends from several clubs she had joined.I licked the corner of my lips looking at my stepdaughter's voluptuous body. She was standing in the middle of her room in only her underwear. Just like when we were at the beach. She put her hands on her hips,
Karina's funeral went very quickly and smoothly. I had no hesitation in having her buried as soon as we arrived in LA. I had already contacted the funeral home to pick up Karina's body at the airport and bring her to the funeral home before she was taken to the cemetery. I would not let Karina's body defile my house. She had defiled my house for the past year. I would not let Karina defile my house again while she was a corpse.Claire asked me why I didn’t bring her mother’s body home and hold a more private funeral at home. I told her that I wanted privacy after the funeral was over and didn’t want to receive any condolence visits at home. Thankfully, Claire respected my decision and went along with every step without asking too much.“Finally, we’re home. Although it’s a shame that our vacation ended early, and we didn’t return home as a full team.”“Yeah, this house feels different without my mother’s noisy voice. I’m going to miss her.”We walked into the house that we had left fo
As soon as I arrived at the resort, I was greeted by two police officers outside my suite. Claire was with them, looking gloomy and mournful. Her eyes were glassy as she lifted her head and looked at me. I didn't see Charles or Dave around. Yeah, those two boys had to have a good reason why they weren't with Claire this afternoon.“Raviel,” Claire called me. Her voice was hoarse and wet. She ran towards me before hugging me tightly and burying her head in my chest.ShitIf the reason Claire shed tears was because of those two cops, I would not hesitate to destroy their careers.“What’s wrong?”My question was directed at the two cops. They were looking at me as if I was the criminal they were looking for. Well, I am. But they would never have proof of the crimes I had committed.“Where have you been?”“Didn’t I leave a message with the receptionist that I had urgent business in Las Vegas?”“You shouldn’t have left Hawaii while the investigation into your wife’s death was still ongoing
