DAMIAN

Andros is awake now as they cuff him to the electric chair but smirking at me. I pace the cell, grateful for Zoran’s help in wrapping a bandage around my side despite my stubborn insistence to do it myself.

“You don’t even know half of what’s happening. While you’ve been chasing ghosts, your house is already burning.”

I walk over and grab his face, feeling my anger channel into the grip. “You better start talking.”

“What the hell do you think I’m talking about?” He says calmly, knowing well how his put togetherness drives me nuts and when I go nuts, I get irrational.

“Cool it, Damian.” Zoran stands next to me. “Allow me handle this one.”

I catch the slight shift in Andros’s face as my brother takes over. Let’s see how he gets out of this one. My fingers itch to light another cigarette but Liliana keeps giving me that disapproving look somewhere in my mind.

Maybe one is okay for a day.

“You can’t seem to stand letting baby brother handle his mess alone, can you?” He smirks, sha

LILIANAIt’s always one thing with Damian. The way he sets me in a whirlpool of confusion and leaves me to drown. Always unpredictable to handle, swinging hot and cold at the same time—it leaves me feeling drained. “If I don’t find a way to get rid of whatever emotions that still has me tethered to the past to him, it’s going to ruin me.” I tell Theo as we sit in front of the fireplace. But tonight when we spoke…it felt different. Like he pried himself open for me. Now I can’t stop thinking about it.“I’d say amen to that, but I’ll say let’s see how that works for you.” His words spark irritation within me. “What’s that supposed to mean?”“Let’s face it. What you need now isn’t to shut him out yet. You have to get closure or else, you’ll keep hurting for the rest of your life. And I promise you, nothing is worse than a lifetime of regrets.”I spare him a glance, catching the way his features pull down in sorrow. This isn’t about me. He’s speaking from experience.“Who is this about

DAMIAN Zoran? I hesitate for one second, but that’s all the time he needs for him to slam his elbow into my wound with a sharp and unforgiving jab. My knees buckle and then– his fist splits my lip. I stumble back at the impact, yet, he charges forward and slams me into the hood of a nearby car. My lungs, instead of expanding, constricts. His hands wrap around my throat. “I should have killed you when I had the chance.” “You did have the chance,” I rasp. “And for whatever bullshit reason, you blew it. Seems like you weren’t paying attention in class.” My fingers are reaching for the hidden dagger behind my back. With one abrupt turn, I kick out his knees from under him and he drops to the ground like a sack of potatoes. And I pounce. His skull hits the pavement with a sickening thud as I slam him into the ground. Knee pinning his arms, my elbow drives into his throat and I press the small dagger to his neck. The tip bites in enough to draw blood. His eyes go round with respe

DAMIANThe rain pelts the windshield like bullets which the wipers slash side to side, barely keeping up. The drive back is filled with the images of the look of masked hurt and the lines of disappointment etched onto her face. The way she looked at me. Silent accusation in those godamned eyes. I’m haunted by how I’m unable to do anything to save her from the abyss I plunged her into.Where do I even start when I can’t save myself?I grip the steering wheel in a way that’s hard enough to splinter if I tried. “I’m trying to save you,” I mutter to no one. “Even if it kills me.”My foot pushes the accelerator harder and the world around me rushes by in a blur. My mind is a fucking mess with spinning images of her trembling hands as she held onto that glass like an anchor, the distance between us just to keep her safe. I should’ve held her and told her the truth. All of it.A sharp pop explodes from under the car. I register that to be the front-left tire before I lose control. “Shit–”

LILIANAIt’s really him. Damian. He is drenched from the light rain with his eyes locked on mine, going still like he can’t breathe until I do. His presence fills the room before his body does and I feel the raw magnetism between us.It’s still there. Strained, but present. He doesn’t say anything but keeps staring like he’s been starving and I’m the only one who could possibly satisfy that hunger. I turn to Theodore slowly and my voice comes out like ice. “You planned this?”“No.” He even has the nerve to act unbothered. “But I gave him the address. Not like he doesn’t already have it.”I laugh bitterly. “Of course you did.”“He needed to find you. You needed to see him. What you do with this moment is up to you, but if he hurts you again, I swear to God, Lily, I’ll put him on his knees.”Damian scoffs, takes a step in. “You’d dare?”The guts this man has in another person’s territory. Thankfully, Theodore isn’t one to cower. He closes the door with a soft click, then turns around w

LILIANAIt’s been a couple of weeks since the grand discovery of Andros as one of the key antagonists and news going around is that he has fled the scene. It’s hard to even imagine him playing a role as a villain. Power sure corrupts. In the meantime, Theodore is showing me the ropes of taking over the company which by the way was going bankrupt before he saved it. Now, the hard part is over, thanks to him. All I have to do is oversee the operations and make sure all is going well. How hard can that be?So everyday until four in the evening, it’s like a simulation using the study as the field. He makes me go through mock reports, financial breakdowns, marketing strategies and internal disputes.I’m learning more than I ever thought I could about a company I used to think was just some bland building with numbers.“Don’t look at me like I’ve just spoken Greek,” Theodore says one afternoon, tossing another thick file onto the table. “Figure it out, Liliana. You have instincts, so use th
