It feels like I’m spinning round and round in goddamn circles. We hit a dead end and still–nothing. No trail. No fucking clue in sight. Just the image of her stuck in the back of my mind as she falls out of reach.

The harder I try to grab on, the more she slips.

I grip the steering wheel harder with eyes wide open and jaw locked. I can’t lose her again. I’d stop breathing before that happens. Hell, I won’t survive it.

Zoran rings my phone and I snatch it before the second buzz. “Any progress?” It’s his weary sigh that makes my heart stop beating for two whole seconds. “It has to be something good, right?” I whisper, hopeful even though it’s fast withering.

“I’m not gonna kid you bro, it’s not what you expect.” His tone is grim. “My team’s been combing through every traffic cam, every damn exit, looking for something out of order—anything. We caught one car behaving off. Black Mercedes taking weird turns, but…”

I wait with bated breaths for this one, scared that uttering a word
