ANIKA’S POV

The doorbell rang.

It was that kind of continuous ringing that always got on my nerves and made me wonder if the person on the other side had no manners.

“Who is it” I said walking to the door but the ringing just continued.

I pulled the door open and my eyes widened when I saw my parents.

“Mum… Dad? When did you get back—?”

Before I could finish, my father’s hand was across my face. The slap was so hard that it sent my head to the side. I tasted the metallic taste of my blood from my teeth biting into my cheek.

“You wicked girl! How dare you push Bree down the stairs?” His voice thundered, echoing around the living room.

I stumbled back, my cheek burning, shock paralyzing me for a second.

It wasn’t me.

It was Bree.

She was the one who had shoved me, the one who had made me fall down the stairs. But no one believed me.

Not my father. Not my mother.

The reality of that sent an awful feeling through me.

“I did not—she was the one that—” I tried to explain, my voice shaking.

But before I could finish, his hand lifted again, heavy and threatening. I flinched instinctively.

“Still lying, huh?” he spat.

I swallowed hard, forcing the tears that threatened to fall to stay put… I would not give them more against me.

Then my mother’s voice cut through the room, it was softer, but it still carried the same malice.

“Anika… what will it take for you to just be kind to your sister, huh?”

I glanced at her, trying to meet her eyes, but all I saw was disappointment.

“I won’t apologize because I did nothing wrong,” I said, arms folding tight across my chest, as if the gesture could shield me from their cruelty.

Their looks didn’t soften.

My chest tightened.

I wanted to scream but I knew that was futile.

“I did not—” I started again, voice trembling.

But Simon walked in before I could finish, his presence filling the entire room.

“What is going on here?” he asked, his tone even, but his eyes moving between me to my parents.

I know it was stupid but a small part of me felt a flicker of hope. Maybe this time he would defend me, maybe he couldn’t take my sisters side.

Maybe for once he’d realize I wasn’t the villain here.

I was wrong, because none of that happened.

A small, stupid part of me had imagined him turning to my parents and saying, she’s telling the truth.

Instead, he glanced at me briefly, then sighed.

“Just apologize, Anika… don’t be stubborn,” he said.

The words hit me like a punch.

I froze for a moment, the blood draining from my face.

No one was listening to me.

I had already lost my baby, but no one seemed to care. Apparently, Bree’s scratch was a lot more important than the life that was insider of me.

I could feel tears forcing their way through my eyelids faster.

“Forget it,” I whispered, voice breaking, and without another word, I turned walked away ignoring those calling my name.

I slammed the door behind me.

My breathing was quick and uneven, it felt like the whole world was closing in on me.

I was done.

I sank onto my bed, hands trembling as I dialed his number, the digits etched into my memory like a lifeline.

The phone rang, each tone stretching into an eternity, and just when I thought I was going to lose my mind, he finally picked up.

“Hello” his voice deep and rumbling was like a voice of fresh air.

I sniffed “Liam does your offer still stand?”

Liam was my childhood best friend, he was also the man that I rejected just so I could be with Simon, and looking back at it now, maybe I had made a mistake.

I remembered how angry I was when Liam told me that I would regret it, choosing Simon over him and I actually cut him off.

Now he was the one I was running back to, he was still here.

“I told you I would wait for you, no matter how long it took” his voice was

I blinked back tears, letting my fingers tremble over the phone.

“Good,” I whispered, trying to steady my voice. My chest heaved as I wiped the tears off my cheeks. “Give me seven days. Then come pick me up.”

The line went silent for a moment, then a soft chuckle on the other end made my chest tighten.

“I’ll be there,” he said. “Seven days. No more, no less.”

I hung up slowly, staring at the phone like it was the only thing that was keeping me grounded. This was it.

I was finally breaking free from this toxic cycle.

Seven days.

That was all I needed.

Seven days to make sure that I had properly divorced Simon and finished everything that was still holding me back here. Seven days until o was gone and none of them would ever see me again.

I thought about everything that I had been through, my marriage that seemed worthless to Simon. He could come home still smelling like alcohol after he had spent a night with my own sister.

I thought about Bree, everyone thought she was so perfect, but I knew the truth, she was not good at all and she hated me for knowing, she hated me for seeing through her bullshit.

I leaned back on my bed, hands clutching the sheets, heart pounding in my chest.

I wiped my eyes again, this time more firmly, there was no use crying over spilt milk.

Seven days.

I could survive seven days.

Outside, I could hear faint murmurs. They were still talking about me, I just knew it.

I clenched my jaw.

Let them talk. Let them believe what they wanted.

In seven days, none of that would matter.

I would be gone.

Free.

My phone buzzed and I looked down at the message;

Liam: I can’t wait to see you

I didn’t believe that I was actually doing this, but here I was…

There was no going back.

SIMON’S POV“Assholes!” I shouted the moment the policemen threw me inside the cell. The metal bars slammed shut behind me loudly.Liam Danson. That bastard. How dare he do this to me?Right there and then, my mind could not stop spinning with a million different ways that I was going to get my revenge because I would.Non-negotiable.I paced angrily inside the cramped cell, my bruised knuckles still aching from the fight earlier. My hands hurt, but my pride hurt even more.I suddenly felt a hand touch my arm and I immediately yanked myself away.“What the fuck?”When I turned around, it was Bree.“What are you doing here Simon?” she asked softly before hugging me tightly without even waiting for a reply.I stiffened.Bree looked terrible. Her cheeks looked hollow, her skin pale and tired, and she had clearly lost a dangerous amount of weight.Well, that was what happened when someone as fragile as Bree ended up in prison. It was not even like she had been abandoned here either.Every

  • DEAR EX HUSBAND, YOU LOVED ME TOO LATE   I MADE THE GOWN

ANIKA’S POVI told Liam to come home early today, because I had a surprise for him, but now, I was this close to chickening out.“Come on Anika you can do this” I told myself in the mirror over and over again. Then I shook my head.Fucking hell this is cringe I cannot do this-Too late. The front door already opened and I felt the familiar steps of his feet.“Princess I’m home” he said in a sing song voice. You know what fuck it.The moment Simon walked in through the door, I did a little spin “surprise”His jaw was on the ground “b-baby”“I want to marry you Liam, so bad that I couldn’t wait and I already made our wedding dress”This dress was my dream.Soft pearl white silk wrapped around my body in elegant folds, sculpted perfectly to my curves while still flowing like water every time I moved. Instead of ordinary lace, tiny hand stitched pearls trailed across the fabric like constellations scattered across the night sky. They dripped from the sleeves in delicate strands, decoratin

  • DEAR EX HUSBAND, YOU LOVED ME TOO LATE   IT COULD HAVE BEEN WORSE

LIAM’S POVI was still fuming, literally foaming at the mouth. My glare stayed fixed on Simon as he sauntered into my office, carrying himself with the pride of someone who had the entire world resting neatly beneath his expensive shoes. The bastard had no idea that he was a lamb walking into his very own slaughter. The truth was that Simon Smith was done for.He just did not know it yet.“To what do I owe this impromptu call?” he asked. He sounded so cocky, so relaxed, like he did not have a single care in the world.I leaned back slowly in my chair.“You’re late,” I snapped. He scoffed and adjusted the cuffs of his suit. “I am sorry Mr. Danson, the email came to me by 6AM. Was I supposed to teleport over here?” he asked sarcastically.I nodded once.“Sit.”Simon narrowed his eyes slightly but still obeyed. He dropped into one of the chairs across from my table and man spread comfortably like he owned the damn building.Disgusting.“Are you aware of the accident that happened over at

  • DEAR EX HUSBAND, YOU LOVED ME TOO LATE   CUT OFF THE CANCER

LIAM’S POV“Boss look at this.”Jonathan handed me the documents with a worried look on his face. This estate development project was very important to me, for a multitude of reasons, and hence why I had invested so much money into it, way more than I had in any other project that I had ever done. And no matter what, this project was going to be a massive success. It had to.I took the documents from him and scanned through the pages carefully.I scoffed.Money, millions of dollars belonging to both myself and the shareholders, was being transferred into some overseas bank account through a series of fake supplier payments.Smith Construction and Designs were in charge of this project.Meaning Simon had already started making his move. That greedy son of a bitch could not even help himself long enough to complete the damn project first.Anika had warned me.She told me Simon would eventually get careless because people like him always did.And now here we were.I leaned back against m

  • DEAR EX HUSBAND, YOU LOVED ME TOO LATE   DEAD TO ME

ANIKA’S POVI glared so hard at Simon that if gazes could actually kill, he might as well be six feet under. But unfortunately, the eyes were not yet evolved to be that lethal. He glared at Liam who still had his arms around me.This was actually so laughable that I couldn’t even stop the scoff that escaped my lips.I mean the gall of this man, to actually come to my place of residence.“You really know that you are trespassing here. I mean I really should call the cops on you. Maybe you can find a great spot right next to Bree,” I said.He gulped.“About that, I need you to have her released,” he said.I laughed. Then I turned to Liam.“He is actually making demands.”Liam squeezed my hand before glaring at Simon.“I am going to need you to leave,” he said coldly.Simon ran a hand through his hair.“Bree is not like the rest of us. She is weak and her heart...”I cut him off immediately.“I am going to need you to shut up here Simon. You should have kept your woman in check when she

  • DEAR EX HUSBAND, YOU LOVED ME TOO LATE   UNWANTED GUEST

ANIKA’S POV“Baby?”I snuggled deeper into the warm hands that held me.Liam had insisted on babying me through my injuries. Hell, Liam always babied me, and at this point I feared that I was quickly getting spoiled. Not like I was hating that fact whatsoever. It was blissful here, just being Liam’s spoiled little baby.“Yes, Mr. Danson,” I said teasingly. He ran a hand through my hair, caressing my scalp softly and playing with my curls.I could not stop the pleased sound that escaped my lips. This man had magic fingers, so I was not at fault for enjoying it.“Your hair is getting longer these days,” he said, twisting the end of one curl around his finger.I turned to look at him.“Don’t you like it?”His eyes widened immediately.“Angel.”“What?”“You can’t seriously be asking me that”I tried and failed to hide my smile.Liam shook his head before bending down and pressing a soft kiss against my lips.“Angel, you look good in anything.”“Liam…”“Seriously,” he continued. “You could
