IAN

I tap my pen against the desk while the presentation goes on. I'm a fucking mess, my heart feels like it's in shreds and there is nothing I can do.

If I'm in this kind of pain, it's only fair that she feels a fraction of it.

“Is it because I'm tainted?” Her pained voice echoes in my head.

I hate that look of vulnerability in her eyes. Fuck I hate being behind that look but I'm fucking torn. Drawing close to her feels like betraying my mother.

My mind is far, far away.

Back to the moment everything shattered.

Her smile at the end of the aisle.

Her hand slipping into mine.

That soft look in her eyes like she actually believed we were beginning our forever.

I grip the pen tighter.

Liar.

She knew.

She fucking knew.

I found out the truth barely ten goddamn minutes before the ceremony.

She kept that filth to herself like it was something she had the right to bury.

She chose silence.

She chose him.

And still… still I stood there like a goddamn fool, sliding the ring on her finger, kissing her like I hadn’t just swallowed poison.

Why didn’t I walk away?

I could’ve stopped the wedding. Called it off. Left her there in that stupid fairytale dress.

But that’s the thing with Sloane, she’s inside me now. Like a fucking parasite clawing at my chest, bleeding into everything.

She makes me hate her, and love her, and want her all in the same fucking breath.

How the hell do you cut someone out of you when they’ve wrapped themselves around your soul?

My jaw tightens as I stare at the screen without seeing it.

She lied to my face and then had the nerve to look at me like I was the one drifting away. Like I was the villain.

But then I remember the way she trembled when she thought I didn’t want her. The way her voice broke when she asked if it was because she was tainted.

And fuck me, I almost caved.

The room comes back into focus. All eyes are on me.

“Yes,” I say, “Continue.”

After what seems like forever, the meeting finally wraps.

I don’t remember a word of it.

Some junior doctor is saying something about patient turnover or funding allocation, I nod because that’s what’s expected, but my mind has already left the building.

As soon as I step into the hallway, I pull out my phone.

“Anderson,” I mutter when he picks up.

“Yes, boss?”

“Is she back yet?”

There’s a pause on the line, too long for my liking.

“No, sir. She hasn’t returned.”

I stop walking..

“She didn’t come back home?”

“No, sir. I’ve been watching for her and didn't follow her as you instructed. She hasn’t come back since she left the suite this morning.”

My jaw tenses. I squeeze the bridge of my nose. Maybe I shouldn't have given her the space.

“Make sure she doesn’t go to Noah’s place.”

“Yes sir.”

“I want to handle this on my own,” I say through gritted teeth. “I don't want interference. Especially from her brothers.”

“Yes, sir.”

I hang up and take the elevator down. Each floor we pass feels slower than the last.

My thumb hovers over her contact, but Instead of calling, I place the phone back in my pocket.

She's probably just throwing a tantrum.

“Cancel the rest of my meetings, I'm going home.” I say to my secretary who nods in understanding.

The city blurs past me as I drive, my hand tightening on the steering wheel with every turn. My head aches and yet, I still have no solution to my predicament.

The route I take is different today. I don’t even know why, I just wanted to be alone. To avoid traffic and maybe to breathe a little.

This road winds through the edge of town. A secluded stretch lined with tall trees and luxury homes, mostly gated and silent.

Few cars ever pass here. Which is why the wreck catches my eye immediately.

Glass glints under the afternoon sun like broken diamonds.

I notice the twisted metal and the steam rising from the hood making me slam on the brakes.

The doctor in me kicks in.

I’m out of the car in seconds, sprinting toward the wreck. My heart pounds in my chest, warning me that something is off and completely wrong.

It’s a black sedan, the body crumpled against a tree, the passenger side obliterated. It looks like it rolled more than once. The windshield is shattered with blood smearing the cracked glass.

I crouch beside the wreckage, my hand already reaching for the door handle when I freeze.

The license plate.

Recognition slams into me like a truck.

It’s mine.

My chest tightens as I pull my phone from my pocket and dial Anderson's line.

He answers instantly.

“What car did Sloane take this morning?” I bark.

“The black sedan, sir. The one with plate 1-KDN-439. Why?”

My heart plummets.

439.

A curse escapes my lips.

“She was in this car.”

“What?sir? What do you mean-”

I hang up without answering.

I move around to the driver's side, pulling the door open. It's barely hanging on its hinges.

The inside is wrecked. Airbags deployed and blood streaked across the seatbelt.

Worse off,

No one’s here.

No body.

and no footprints or drops of blood either. No sign she walked away.

I notice the phone wedged under the crumpled dashboard.

I reach for it, my hands trembling, afraid to even breathe. For fear of confirming who was in this car.

The screen is shattered beyond repair, but when I turn it over, the background flickers to life for half a second. Her wallpaper is staring right back at me.

That silver hair and those beautiful green eyes that draw you in.

Fuck!

My wife was in an accident?

  • DEAR STRANGER, MARRY ME AGAIN   EPILOGUE

SLOANE“Are you nervous?” I ask Nate as he picks his arrows.“Why would I be?” He asks.“Because you haven't competed with anyone other than Uncle Tyson.” I respond even though mentioning that name feels like tasting glass. “Nope. Daddy trained me every day. I'll win!”I smile at his certainty, smoothing a hand over his dark hair. His eyes, which are so much like Ian’s, shine with focus. He carries himself as if the bow in his hand is an extension of who he is.Beside me, Kate and Alina clap their little hands, bouncing in excitement. “Nate is going to beat everyone!” she declares loudly. Rayen just folds his arms like a miniature grown-up, though his grin betrays his excitement. “Don’t mess up in front of the whole crowd, Nate.”Asher, who is slouched in his seat, groans dramatically. “Why am I even here? I’d rather be anywhere else. Watching arrows fly is boring.”I give him a pointed look. “You’re here because your cousin needs your support. And family shows up.”“Yes, Aunty Slo

IANTwo months later…“It's good to have you back, Dr. Quinn.” Athena says, and I hold a smile,“Oh please. Save me the formalities!”Isabelle joins me, “I was also starting to wonder what this formal address was about.” “Are you changing sides the moment Ian returns?” Athena asks in disbelief.“I can't help it. There is something about his eyes.” She teases, and I shake my head.I haven't done this in six years. But after a month of my wife trying to convince me to get my life back, I decided to give it a try. “I must say it was so romantic of Sloane to do that for you.” Isabelle says, and I pause, pushing my reading glasses back.“What are you talking about?”“You don't know?” She asks, her eyes shining with amusement. Isabelle loves gossip, that's for sure. “Did we miss something?” Athena asks, looking as confused as I am.Isabelle rolls her eyes, “Do you two live under a damn rock? Sloane started to donate blood last month. I heard Ian over there, being the love sick bastard he

IANI crash my lips against hers again, the heat between us igniting faster than I thought possible. Her hands move over me, tugging at my shirt while my chest rises beneath her touch. I groan as I press my body harder into hers, feeling her shiver against me.“Damn, you’re driving me insane,” I growl, my voice rough as I tilt her chin up with one hand. Her lips part in a gasp, and I can see the fire in her eyes, that mix of want and surrender that always makes my blood roar.Six fucking years without being inside her makes my head spin. I never touched any woman after her, not even after I thought she was dead. I was going to join the monks at one point but I guess that won't be happening now that she's in my arms once again. She pulls at my shirt again, and I finally give in, letting it go.“When did you get this?” she touches my tattoo of her name, her eyes widening as she looks at it.“The day after your fake burial.” I respond and she nods, not saying another word as her lips

  • DEAR STRANGER, MARRY ME AGAIN   Chapter 91 ~ I never stopped

IAN “What's on your mind?” Sloane asks as we step into my penthouse. “Just how amazing you are.” I respond without looking at her.She walked in while Lian was crying in my arms. I held her because I caused her that pain. I did that to her, and I'm to blame for how she turned out. My father saw how obsessed she was and corrupted her feelings, turning her into a monster. But instead of seeing that, I let my anger blind me and only see the effects, making me feel ashamed of myself. “This is when you're just realizing it?” She teases, and I laugh.I walk towards her, placing my hands on her hips and pulling her closer, “But seriously, I mean it. You're amazing. Thank you for helping me see beyond my anger. I'm glad Lian will get the help she needs. I guess she was just one of my father's victims. Unlike Anorld, she looks like she still has a chance to be redeemed.” “Well, it took a lot of strength,” Sloane admits softly, her eyes glinting up at me, “because I wanted to tear her apar

LIAN“My life has had one purpose for as long as I could remember. That purpose was you. It didn't matter where I was or what you did. You're all I thought about.” I begin. My heart shredding to tiny pieces as I speak out my thoughts for the first time. “I wanted to be your wife. I was going to, until Sloane took you from me. I guess I never stood a chance. Sometimes, I wondered if I changed my face to hers, would you love me then?” Tears roll down my face. “Lian.”But I shake my head, refusing to let him speak, “I had to watch you stay by her side and forget I ever existed. You forgot about me. You loved another and replaced me, but I forgave you and gave you many more chances only for you to shatter my heart over and over again. So please, cut me some slack if I had to compromise my method!” I scream, holding back the sobs as my sliced wrists hurt like a bitch. “All I wanted was for you to see me, Ian. Just once. To see me the way you look at her. I prayed for it. I begged for it

  • DEAR STRANGER, MARRY ME AGAIN   Chapter 89 ~ Don't kill her

IAN“You must be very angry with me.” Alex says, and I flex my jaw, barely holding back my anger. “You hid the fact that you saved my wife and kept the truth about my kids away from me for six fucking years. I'm not upset, Alex. I want to fucking kill you!” I growl. “You had hurt her! I wanted to punish you.” He hisses in my face and my hands itch from wanting to slap his fucking face.“You hurt Athena. In ways much worse, but I still helped you uncover the truth about your child when it was time. You didn't want to punish me, you just wanted to be in control of her life and trust me, I'll never forgive you for it.” My chest rises and falls from how angry I am. “But for the sake of our kids who love each other, I won't fight you every time I see you. But I'll strongly advise you not to act like we are friends. Because the most we will be, is civilized.” I brush past him and storm off to my car so I can figure out what the hell I'm going to do with Lian. I slam the car door shut, my
