FAZER LOGINChapter II
Bridgette had just put her child to sleep, so she stood up to cover him with a blanket. She sat beside him for a moment and watched her child sleeping peacefully.
I am sorry, baby. I thought my love would be enough. But I guess I still cannot make up for your search for a father, she thought to herself.
She wiped the tears that escaped from her eyes, kissed his forehead, and then left the room.
Jake leaned back in his swivel chair and closed his eyes tightly. He had so much work to finish, and he had a business trip to the US in two days.
"Resting is a thing, you know." He opened his eyes upon hearing the voice.
"What are you doing here? And don't you know how to knock?" he asked irritably.
The visitor walked near the window and poured liquor into two glasses.
He handed Jake a glass filled with liquor, which Jake immediately accepted.
"So what brought you here? Did something happen to Alliyah?" he asked, taking a sip while looking at Philip.
Philip shook his head, walked toward the window, and gazed outside.
"Alliyah is just worried, Jake." Jake saw him take a drink and put one hand inside his pants pocket.
"Worried about what?" Jake asked, setting his glass down and turning his attention back to the document he was studying before Philip arrived.
"She’s worried about you," Philip added.
Jake immediately looked up at him. Philip's back was still turned.
"She said you’re burying yourself too much in work, man. If her pregnancy weren't so delicate right now, she might have come here herself to smack some sense into you." Philip finally turned to face him.
"So what is your point then?" Jake asked, raising an eyebrow.
"I think you need a vacation," Philip answered as a suggestion. "You must unwind. Or maybe find yourself a woman, you know..." he said with a smile.
Jake laughed at his remark. "You think I can still find someone? When you stole the only woman I ever loved?" he teased back.
Philip just laughed and approached him. "Seriously, man, take a vacation. I'll take care of things here for now," he said, setting his glass down on the desk.
"I'll just finish my business trip to the US, and then I’ll take a vacation," Jake answered. Maybe he really did need a rest.
"Good," Philip said with a smile before leaving the office.
Jake let out a heavy sigh, stood up from his seat, walked to the window, and looked outside.
He put his hands in his pockets and stared into the distance.
He was now a well-known businessman with Philip's help. He had achieved the things he wanted, but he knew something was missing.
He closed his eyes. He knew what that missing piece was: his heart. Because until now, he still loved Alliyah, even as he saw her happy in Philip's arms.
He could only sigh.
Maybe it was finally time to move on from the past.
He turned around and walked back to his desk.
Late into the night, sleep still eluded Bridgette. Up until that moment, she was still thinking about what happened earlier when her child asked about his father.
She got up from her bed and went outside the house. She walked over to the swing and sat down.
She looked up at the stars in the sky.
It had been two years since she and Philip separated. Perhaps Zion did not remember him anymore since he was barely two years old back then.
Tears welled up in her eyes.
Back then, she thought of nothing else but to give her child a father figure until she met Philip. He was nice, a gentleman, kind, and loving—but not to her; he was loving to "their" child.
They always fought over small things. And the most painful part of all was that after they got married, they slept in separate rooms.
Even if she wanted to regret blackmailing him, she couldn't do anything about it, because she chose to fight for her child to have a father. She was desperate—a massive check on that.
It felt as though they were playing house. More than a few times, she found out that he had a girlfriend in the Philippines while he wouldn't even visit her and Zion in the US.
So one day, she decided to return to the Philippines, and there she found out he was keeping a woman in his home—it was Alliyah.
Eventually, Philip left her when he found out the truth: that Zion was not actually his child.
She wasn't hurt by him leaving them, but she was hurt for her child, who lost a father.
She cried not for Philip, but for Zion. She thought everything would be okay. She thought he wouldn't look for a father because she was giving him all the love she had.
Whenever he wanted to play basketball, she accompanied him. She even taught him how to ride a bike—something his father should have been teaching him.
She wiped the tears that wouldn't stop falling. Was this her karma?
XBridgette and Lyndon turned toward the road at the sound of a speeding car."What a reckless driver," Lyndon commented."Will we announce this now?" he asked, a smile lingering on his lips."Of course," she answered blankly, gazing at the road. She couldn't be mistaken about what she saw earlier—in her peripheral vision, she caught a glimpse of someone on the road. She hadn't seen clearly because her lips were locked with Lyndon's at the time.Who could that have been? Was it the passenger of the car that sped away?Lyndon wrapped his arm around her waist. She raised an eyebrow at him."Just securing my property," he said with a devilish grin. She rolled her eyes. Out of all her suitors, Lyndon was the only one she allowed to get close to her and her child.Truth be told, she used to be afraid to gamble her trust. She didn't want to get hurt, especially when it came to her child's feelings. Even more so because Zion was longing for the love and care of a father."Just kidding, honey
IXHer child was sitting on her lap when a car suddenly pulled up in front of their house.Looking at the car, she knew who it was. She was surprised at first to have him as a visitor at such an early hour, but she just shrugged her shoulders—perhaps he was worried about her, she thought.A smiling Lyndon stepped out of the luxurious car. He was wearing a simple navy blue V-neck shirt and khaki shorts, paired with white slippers. He was indeed perfect: broad shoulders, a chiseled six-pack abdomen, brown eyes, a pointed nose, and thin, rosy lips. She watched him as he walked toward her and let out a heavy sigh. If only she could teach her heart. It had been a year since she said yes to Lyndon. He had accepted her along with her whole life—or rather, her past and her child.Yet as time went by, she knew deep down that someone else already occupied her heart. Someone she held dear up to this very day.Try as she might to deny it, seeing him again made it feel as though no time had passed
Tears spilled from her eyes the moment she stepped inside the car. She could no longer hold back the emotions she had buried in the past for so long.Yeah, love at first sight is real. Because after gazing at his gentle face as he lay face down on the bed back then, Bridgette felt the emotion they call love. She thought she could forget those feelings, but she couldn't.She quickly got out of the car, went straight to her room, and changed her clothes.Walking into her child's room, she saw Trisha lying beside him. She tapped her gently to let her know she was home."Go to your bed now; I’ll stay with him."Trisha yawned, got up, and walked out of the room. She caressed her child's face, and those damn tears started falling again. Now her question was answered as to why he didn't look like her. It was because he took after his father. She sobbed—what if he finds out about her child and takes him away? What will she do?She wept at the thought. Perhaps once he finds out, he will snatch
She let out a deep sigh, unable to sit still. Why did they even have to meet again?Does he already know? But how could he have found out? No one would question it—first and foremost, because Philip married her and stood as a father to her child.Besides, does he even remember her? Then again, judging by the look he gave her earlier, recognition was clearly written all over his face. She was the last to walk out onto the stage. She stepped up, supported by one of their escorts, and as expected, camera flashes went off everywhere, so she simply offered a smile. Her gown was the item being auctioned, so she struck a graceful pose at the front."Whoever becomes the highest bidder will get a date tonight with this very pretty lady, Ms. Bridgette," the emcee announced with a smile, glancing toward her.She was caught off guard—that date was never part of their agreement. She glanced at her manager, who merely shrugged her shoulders and smiled. Well, she figured they didn't tell her because

She didn't care if the people around were staring at her.All she knew was that she was angry. She was angry with her father. She had just arrived from a shoot earlier with a smile on her face as she entered their house. However, the moment her feet crossed the front door, she could already hear commotion coming from their living room. She ran inside upon hearing the scream of Trisha, her younger sister. Her sister was holding onto their mother's back while they were seated on the sofa. Her father was standing, massaging his temples."What's happening here?" she asked with a furrowed brow, stepping closer to her mother, who was weeping with her head bowed. Her sister was crying beside her mother as well.Neither of them spoke; they simply looked at her."Trish?" She received no response. "Mom?" Her mother didn't answer either, her sobs merely growing a bit louder.
