AURORA

The next morning I put on the same black slacks and the same white button-down as I had nothing else as appropriate as it, besides I wasn't going to the same company.

The first interview was at a small marketing firm called Crest Communications, which I found tucked at the back of a largely visited bookstore. I stopped by to grab a business book and spent my time reading it while waiting for my turn.

The waiting area was small, just four chairs and a coffee table covered in magazines fr

AURORAAfter a very intense research, I found a suitable clinic to register for my prenatal checkup. The clinic was on the other side of Oak City, a tall building with a blue sign that said WESTSIDE WOMEN'S HEALTH. You shouldn't be deceived by the look, according to my research it was super affordable and we'll equiped. It was a hospital built and funded by the minister of women's affairs after her first daughter died during childbirth.God bless her soul.My back was aching from all the work so I took a taxi instead of the bus. The driver dropped me at the entrance and I stood there for a moment looking at the glass doors before I walked in.The waiting room was full of pregnant women, some with toddlers climbing on their laps, others alone like me staring at the wall or scrolling through their phones.

  • DIVORCED BY THE BILLIONAIRE   Chapter 25

AURORA The plumbing man showed you around seven, a short man with a mustache and a tool belt that sagged on his hip. He nodded at me when I opened the basement door and walked past like he already knew where to go. He must've been fixing things for the Bayers seeing how familiar he was with the place. For the next two hours while I served customers I could faintly hear him working down there banging nonstop, and swearing.Mrs. Bayer arrived with a cleaning crew right after breakfast. They were about four women in blue uniforms carrying mops and buckets and a machine that looked like a vacuum but also looked a little difficult and made zero noise. All of these people were directed in through the front door. The back door of the basement was sealed shut for some reason and no matter how Mr Bayer tried,it wouldn't budge, even with the keys.I know I'll have to get familiar with sleeping in the office.Mrs. Bayer stopped after I just finished serving a customer. With a wide smile she pl

  • DIVORCED BY THE BILLIONAIRE   Chapter 24

AURORA By the time the sun came up, the basement was empty except for the now wet mattress, the ruined sofa, and the puddles of water still soaking on the floor. I stood in the kitchen with my arms wrapped around myself, my wet clothes sticking to my skin.Mrs. Bayer arrived a few minutes later. She looked at me, then at Mr. Bayer, then at the water stains on my shirt."Go shower," she said. "I'll find you something to wear." She gestured to the bathroom upstairs. The bathroom upstairs was small, just a toilet and a shower stall with a sink and a cracked mirror. I stood under the hot water for a long time, watching the dirt and dust wash off my legs. My feet were cold even under the heat. When I came out, Mrs. Bayer had left a sweatshirt and a pair of sweatpants on the chair outside the bathroom door. They were too big — hers, probably — but they were dry and that was all I needed.I found her in the dining room after changing, setting up the coffee machine. She looked up when I reac

  • DIVORCED BY THE BILLIONAIRE   Chapter 23

AURORA I woke up to cold water dropping continuously on my feet.At first I thought I was dreaming, those very traumatizing dream where you keep run but don't go anywhere, or fall into water but can't swim when you know pretty well you can, or when a snake slither up your stomach all you can do is watch it with horror and hope it does get to your face, or worse…go into your mouth.I groggily turned to pull the sheets down to cover my legs. It was probably nothing. You get realistic weird dreams like this, especially when you move into a new place.I tried to pick up the fallen sheet from the floor only to touch the floor and felt water. I sat up so fast my head spun. The basement light was off, but the streetlamp outside the small window cast enough glow for me to see whatever the fuck that was. Water was coming from the pipe near the bathroom, spraying sideways against the wall and pooling across the concrete floor. My socks were soaked. The edge of the chairs were dark and wet."

  • DIVORCED BY THE BILLIONAIRE   Chapter 22

AURORA I spent the rest of Sunday morning finishing what Mr. Bayer and I had started. The sofa was in place, the dresser against the wall, the bed in the corner, but the little things still needed doing, hanging a curtain over the small window, finding a spot for my suitcase, unpacking the last box of kitchen supplies I bought at the grocery store. I re-set the mini fridge next to the table, plugged in the hot plate, and arranged the few pots and pans I purchased on a shelf Mr. Bayer had screwed into the wall yesterday.Mrs. Bayer came down around noon with a basket of linens — towels, dishcloths, a set of sheets that actually fit the mattress. It was a necessity that for some reason I forgot to buy.At leastt she had one to spare."Much better," she said. "Don't you need something for the floor.""I'll get one.""There's a thrift store two blocks down. My husband can drive you."I thanked her and folded the towels into the dresser drawer. She stood in the doorway for a moment, watc

  • DIVORCED BY THE BILLIONAIRE   Chapter 21

The church was full of white flowers, roses stacked on every pew with their petals scattered across the aisle like snow. I stood at the entrance in a dress that trailed six feet behind me, lace and silk and some sort of stones that caught the light every time I moved. My mother adjusted my veil and kissed my cheek while my father offered his arm.“You look beautiful.”The organ played as everyone stood. Slowly I walked down the aisle to find Damien waiting at the altar, his blue eyes locked on mine with a smile I've never seen on his face in real life. He reached for my hand and held it so tight like he was afraid I'd disappear if he did. “I now pronounce you husband and wife!” The second the prince said those words the crowd burst into cheers. We kissed and after a long moment, walk back down the aisle to the front door. All the guests followed behind as the guards my parents hired shielded us and stopped them from coming close. The couple of the head, the century even. After the
