MONIQUE

So I kept sitting there. Silent. Still. Letting the minutes stretch longer than they needed to. Outside the glass, the garden waved gently in the wind, a different kind of world moving slowly, peacefully, untouched by all this chaos.

Inside, I could hear Maria moving about, carrying things, doing as I asked. And then, suddenly....... A screech from the hallway.

Sharp. Possessive. Loud.

“What are you doing? What the hell do you think you’re doing?”

It didn’t take a mathematician to know who that was..... Ah yes—the lady of the house.

“What are you doing with my stuff?” she screamed.

Maria must have answered, but her voice was too low, too calm, and I couldn’t make out the words. But her reply didn’t matter because Ariana was livid.

“Take them back. Take them back this minute!”

The entitlement in her voice nearly made me laugh.

Footsteps came stomping down the hallway. They were heavy and fast, meant to make a statement. I didn’t turn around. I let them think I hadn’t noticed. L

  • DIVORCED MORNING AND REMARRIED TO HIS BROTHER BY NIGHT   Explain That

MONIQUE“You really called the cops on me?” she asked, wobbling slightly as she pulled herself to the edge of the bed.I smiled. “I guess those answers will be answered when the police get in here.”“Are you crazy?” she asked, eyes widening. “I was invited here. Ryan and his family invited me here. Ryan is the owner of this house, and he loves me; he wants me here. Of course, they’re not going to take me away in handcuffs. Why the hell did you call the police?”“I told you to leave my house. You didn’t want to leave my house. And so yes, I did. I called the police. So now, let’s just wait so they can come here and decide if you own this house... or I do.”“Oh my God, Ryan is not going to agree to this. Ryan is going to be mad at you. Just wait till Ryan comes in here,” she snapped.Although she said this with venom, with confidence, I could tell it was slipping. That confidence wasn’t as strong anymore. She was wondering, really wondering, how I would even have the power to call the p

MONIQUEI didn’t need to look at Maria to know she was frozen, probably holding her breath, not knowing what the hell to do.“I’m going to give you five minutes,” I told Ariana quietly. “Before I call the police.”She looked at me, eye to eye, waiting for some hint of hesitation. Some sign I was bluffing.“I’m not bluffing.” I told her.She laughed anyway. A mocking, bitter sound. Then she walked toward the bed and sat down like she belonged there.“Well,” she said with a shrug, “like I said. I’m not scared of you. Or whatever you think you can do. Call the police... call them. Let them come and take you out of this house, kicking and screaming with your little auntie.”She said the words tauntingly, like she was making fun of me. Not in anger. Not in fear. Just pure, unbothered mockery. She sat on the bed, her posture relaxed like a woman who had won. And maybe, in her head, she had.You could tell just by looking at her, this was a woman confident in her position. she was confident

  • DIVORCED MORNING AND REMARRIED TO HIS BROTHER BY NIGHT   Lady Of The House

I stood still in the middle of the room, trying to breathe.I was surrounded by things—things I didn’t choose, things I didn’t recognise, things that didn’t belong to me.But this house? This house was mine.I was the one who had walked through the bones of it when it was just blueprints and scaffolding. I picked the marble in the kitchen, the windows in the sunroom, and the warm wood that wrapped around the walls in the library. I was the one who pored over fabric swatches for the living room couches and fought with designers over natural lighting in the guest suites. This house wasn’t just built with money. It was built with me. But now… it felt like I’d been scrubbed out. Wiped clean like dust on a forgotten shelf. And for what? For someone else to come in and live inside the pieces of my dream?I walked into the bathroom, and even there, the transformation was suffocating. My favourite tub had been replaced. The skylight blinds were automated now, blocking out the stars I used to

  • DIVORCED MORNING AND REMARRIED TO HIS BROTHER BY NIGHT   Why This House

MONIQUEAs we went upstairs with my Auntie, Maria followed closely behind. The bags had already been placed in the hallway. I guessed Maria hadn’t yet decided where to take them. I took the closest room to the master bedroom and instructed her to bring in my aunt’s bags.We hadn’t had a real conversation since coming up from the dining table, after everything that had happened there. I could feel my aunt’s side glances. She wanted to talk. I knew it. But I was going to pretend I couldn’t see them.Once she was settled, Maria excused herself.“I need to prepare the master bedroom,” she said. But I knew exactly what she meant. And I had no idea what she was planning to do. Because that room, that room belonged to Ariana now. She’d probably turned it into something of hers. But before Maria could wipe that life away, I needed to see it. I needed to step inside and witness the world Ryan had built with this woman. My life, lived with someone else.As I turned, I said casually, “I’ll join

  • DIVORCED MORNING AND REMARRIED TO HIS BROTHER BY NIGHT   Be Cautious

The Bennetts Ryan sighed, his shoulders sinking as he moved toward the liquor cabinet."I just feel it," he said quietly. "I just feel there's something bigger here. I don't like it.... I don't like this..."He grabbed a bottle of whiskey, walked it back to his desk, and poured himself another generous measure. The amber liquid splashed into the glass like punctuation.Mrs. Bennett raised an eyebrow, her expression unreadable."Oh? You didn't like it?" she said slowly, each word deliberate, testing his mood. "Which part exactly? The part where she just disappeared without saying a word and then walked back in like she hadn’t missed a day?"She tilted her head, her tone sharpening. "Or the way she came back and owned that room?"A pause. And then,"Or is it the part where she told the entire table that she would be waiting for you in your bedroom?"Mrs. Bennett let out a loud, amused chuckle at her own words.Ryan clenched his jaw, his eyes narrowing."All of it has to stop," he said
