Chapter 3

Jonas’s forehead creased and his jaw tightened. “Celeb, take Katherine to her room.” He ordered and Celeb quickly got to his feet and turned to Katherine.

“Come with me.” He said, holding her hand, he pulled her away with him as tears clustered in her eyes.

“Rita!” Jonas called out in anger. “Why would you keep on being insensitive?!” He asked her. “That girl has gone through what no girl should ever go through, it hasn’t been a week since she lost her parents, so why do you keep acting like this towards her?” He asked in anger.

“I don’t see how you are comfortable having that child live under our roof after what her father did to you?” Rita threw him a question rather than giving a response to his question and he felt silence.

“You asked her father for money to save your company, but he didn’t loan you and you had to go sell our daughter for money from some family we know nothing about their son!” She said out loud, her eyes aflame and her brows furrowed.

“He was going through a lot then and couldn’t help us, how many time did I have to tell you that, look how his company went bankrupt and now he is even dead---“

“He deserves everything that has happened to him, losing his company and also losing his life, he deserves that a million times, and I think Karma has a way of repaying him a double fold with his daughter being in this situation now.” She clenched her jaw.

Jonas ran his hand through his hair, he despise the lack of understanding from his wife, no matter what Katherine’s father did in the past, Katherine doesn’t deserve to be treated like this.

“Do you even care that your daughter no longer looks at you or call you father?” Rita asked him and he raised his gaze to meet her. “She leaves the house whenever you are back and never eats dinner, and this is all because of how you signed a contract to give your child to someone unknown as collateral for money.”

“He is from a wealthy family and not someone unknown Rita, he is just outside the country and would return to get married to Vivian---“

“Can you even hear yourself?” Rita interrupted him. “Have you seen an image of their child?” She asked. “Do you even care if he loves our daughter, if you are so bent on sending someone to a wealthy family, why not send that child who is already from a wealthy family but lost it all?” She juts her chin.

“Rita---“

“That is quite a good idea!” She cuts him off again. “She doesn’t fit in among us, so send her in place of our daughter, sell her rather than my child, that is the only way our family can be whole again and the only way to get on Vivian’s good side, you had better do that before you lose your child forever!” She got to her feet and left the dining room.

Jonas held the back of his neck stressed, his head buzzed and his breathing became heavy, but he soon calmed it and glanced at the empty table, she was right about Vivian.

After he had told her she was getting married to someone due to the contract he signed, they haven’t met eye to eye, the family didn’t know anything about the son of the wealthy man since he was in the state, all they knew was the wedding was in a week.

Vivian hates him, but then, how can he send Katherine off in something she has no idea about, it would be too cruel even for her.

Jonas rubbed his forehead with his hand in distress, things haven’t been well with their family for some months and now that Katherine was here, he knew it was going to be worst, his daughter hates him and now his wife does too.

Celeb took Katherine to the rooftop and she glanced at him, but he parted his lips. “I come here wherever my heart feels heavy.” He told her and pointed at the horizon. “It’s a bit cloudy, but the air could free up certain heaviness in your heart.”

Katherine glanced away from him and drew in a sharp breath before exhaling. “Why are you nice to me?” She asked him, his mother wasn’t nice to her, and so was his sister.

“It would be wrong if everyone is rude to you,” He flashed a smile. “There is something called balance, and right now, I am that balance in this family.” He winked at her and took off the headphone he has hung on his neck.

He moved close to her and looked into her eyes. “My mother and sister was not always like that, I am not trying to make excuse for their attitude, but I just want to let you know.” He placed the headphone on her ear.

“What are you doing?” She asked him.

“Music is sometimes therapy, so you should listen to some music, it would help calm your mind.” He took out his cell phone and played Hurt again by Jillian Rossi.

Katherine listened to it for a while before taking the headphone off her ear and he blinked as the music didn’t finish playing yet.

“Why? You don’t like the music?” He raised the corner of his brows and took the headphone that was stretched back to him.

“You are so bad at this.” She said with a smile for the first time in four days and his eyes twinkled to see the pretty smile on her face. “You don’t play sad music for people who are already sad, they could become sadder.” She told him and walked towards the edge of the rooftop.

Celeb smiled and turned the music off. “You are right, I am bad at this.” He walked close to her and stood by her side and she glanced at him, the smiles on his face were broad that it made her chuckle.

Truly, someone who is sad just need someone to listen or talk to, the sadness might go away even if it is just briefly.

“Thank you.” Katherine said softly and he shook his head.

“It’s okay, and I can be your therapy.” He winked at her and she chuckled, gently tucking the loose strand of her hair behind her ear, she looked away from him and he smiled and looked away from her as they stared at the night sky.
