Chapter 4

Katherine woke up the next morning and took her bathe, changing into a blue jean trouser and a blue crop top, she brushed her hair backwards and made her way downstairs to help Mrs. Rita, she felt if she was hardworking, then Rita would love her.

Katherine turned on the vacuum cleaner and began cleaning the living room, she dressed the sofa and dusted the window, she glanced out of the window, and staring out of it in the brightness she discovered that it was beautiful.

She heard the front door open and quickly turned around, she blinked to see Vivian walk into the apartment, she had seen her leave last night, but she didn’t know she didn’t return last night.

“Good morning, Vivian.” Katherine rushed over to her and she pinched the corner of her nose when she smelt liquor all over Vivian.

Vivian staggered a little and Katherine held her stable, but Vivian pushed her hand away, “Can you at least stay where you can’t be seen?” Vivian scorned at her and kicked her shoe away.

Hearing Vivian’s voice, Jonas quickly came out of his room. “Vivian…” He walked close to her, but Vivian scoffed.

“And there is a father who sells his daughter.” She glared at him and looked away from him and Katherine blinked in confusion.

“Vivian, when would you stop acting like this?” He asked her in a harsh voice, but Vivian chuckled softly, her eyes darkened and she turned to him.

Slightly raising the corner of her lips, she spoke out. “When you undo what you did to me.” She pointed at herself, “You can’t call yourself a father when you hurt your own child, so ignore me as I would be gone from your sight by next week.” Tears rolled down her cheek and she turned to walk away but he grabbed her hand.

“Vivian, you should understand that---“

“Let me go!” Vivian barked and Celeb hearing the voices from upstairs hurried down and he drew a sharp breath seeing that it was Vivian and his father again.

“This never ends, does it?” He said softly and leaned by the stair, Katherine saw him cross his hand over his chest and she figured he knew why Vivian was acting up.

“Vivian, I am sorry but it can’t be undone.” Jonas looked very sorry, having a daughter he cherished so much act this way hurt his feelings, then he had no other choice, it was either save the company and let his children suffer with having nothing or sign that agreement.

Vivian pulled her hand away from her father’s grip and turned her eyes to Katherine. “You took someone’s daughter that isn’t even your child in and sell your daughter off, would she be my replacement? Is that why you brought her here, to fill the void?” Her forehead creased and Celeb stood straight and glanced at Katherine.

Katherine saw the pain in Vivian’s eyes and she wished she was not here, now she was going to be the center of all these, she had only been here for one night and was accused for what she was unaware of.

“Vivian, don’t say that.” Jonas frowns at her and just then Rita stepped out of her room.

“Don’t scold our daughter!” She said in a sharp tune and they all turned to face her.

“Mom, I don’t want to be sent away.” Vivian saw her mother and began to sob and Celeb scoffed from where he stood.

Rita walked towards her and embraced her, she glanced at Jonas who drew a sharp breath and her eyes darted to Katherine.

“Good morning, Mrs. Rita.” Katherine quickly greeted, but Rita glanced at the Vacuum that was on and scoffed.

“Who asked you to clean?” She scolded Katherine. “I am sure you don’t do any of these at your late parent mansion, so don’t even try doing it and just stay as if you are dead in this apartment.” She shunned her as she had heard all Vivian say from her room.

Katherine lowered her gaze and Jonas frowned at his wife. “Honey,”

Rita shot him a glare and held Vivian. “Let’s take you to your room.” She said and led Vivian away upstairs and Celeb glanced at their departing back and turned to Katherine who still had her head lowered.

“Continue with what you were doing,” Jonas placed a comforting hand on her shoulder and she glanced up at him with pressed lips. “Celeb, take her out for some fresh air and buy her breakfast, I doubt anyone would be eating a meal this morning.” He said and walked back into his room.

Katherine walked to the vacuum and turned it off and glanced at Celeb who walked close to her. “A piece of advice, don’t come out early in the morning and don’t do all these, I doubt any of them could please my mother.” He told her and pouts.

“I can’t have her keep despising me, and Vivian blames me for what I have no idea of.” A worried line appeared between her brows.

“You shouldn’t worry about the dramas, it always happens and soon you will get used to it,” he glanced upstairs. “Give me some moment, I will be down and we can go eat breakfast.”  He told her and head upstairs.

Vivian sobbed in her room as she was led to her bed by Rita, Rita handed her some tissue as she blew her nose, but tears kept rolling down her cheek.

“It’s okay, you should stop crying now, and you would get wrinkles.” Rita consoled her, but Vivian glanced up at her mother, eyes filled with tears.

“I don’t want to hate dad, but why would he do that to me?” She asked in a hoarse voice and Rita sat next to her bed and pulled her close to her chest and pats her back.

“Mom, I have a boyfriend already and don’t want to marry an unknown stranger,” Her lower lips was pushed up and her eyebrows creased as she sniffled. “Is it not crazy that my wedding is next week but I haven’t seen my groom and the groom haven’t seen me, neither has his parents?”

She leaned back and looked into her mother’s eyes. “Who know how old or ugly he would be? They may be hiding him because he could be crippled or something, Mom, do something, I don’t care about their wealth, I don’t want to get married to that person.” She held her mother’s hand pleading desperately.

Rita’s heart broke to see the tears that rolled down her daughter’s cheek, she cupped Vivian’s face with her hand and wiped off her tears with her thumb and looked directly into her child’s wet eyes.

“You won’t get married to him if you don’t want to, I will have to find a replacement, instead of sending my daughter away, someone who doesn’t belong in this place has to go.” Rita assured her and Vivian’s tears quickly seized as she figured what her mother was trying to tell her.

Vivian blinked and her lips parted slowly. “You are right mom, they don’t know who I am, so they wouldn’t know that I am not who they signed to take.” Her eyes were starting to get bright, but slowly sadness filled it again.

“Mom, dad would never let that happen.” She said in a hoarse voice again, but Rita’s forehead creased.

“It’s either she goes or no one goes.” She said firmly and seeing the determination in her mother’s eyes, the corner of Vivian’s lips curved up in a smile.
