Chapter 6 THE POLITICAL TRAP

last update publish date: 2026-08-15 16:48:50

The mahogany boardroom of the Siri-Wattana Tower was typically reserved for operational reviews, but tonight, it felt like an interrogation chamber. It was 8:00 PM. The corporate staff had gone home, leaving the top floor entirely dark except for the sharp, white recessed lights illuminating the central glass conference table.

Queen sat at the head of the table, her hands flat on the glass. She had not removed her blazer, her posture remaining an unbroken, defensive line. Her face was a perfect sheet of unreadable marble—serious, plain, and entirely devoid of emotion.

Across from her sat Lady Nalin and Senator Pongsak. Pongsak had a thick leather dossier open in front of him, filled with surveillance photographs. The glossy images scattered across the glass showed Queen and Babe: sitting together on the penthouse floor during the storm, walking out of the lobby after Khem’s removal, and riding in the back of the executive limousine.

Babe stood two paces behind Queen’s chair, her university shirt tucked tightly into her pencil skirt. Her innocent face was pale, but her dark eyes were wide and hyper-focused on the politicians. The atmosphere was thick with the scent of Pongsak’s heavy cologne and the quiet, dangerous hum of a trap snapping shut.

"You’ve become incredibly sloppy, Keeraphat," Pongsak said, his voice dropping its usual booming public warmth, replaced by a low, gravelly venom. He tapped a photograph of Queen holding Babe’s wrist. "A slum girl? A low-class assistant with a mother wrapped up in gambling syndicates? Do you have any idea what my opposition will do with these images if they hit the press before the November primary?"

"My private employment contracts are not municipal business, Senator," Queen replied, her voice cool, level, and completely flat. "Bonita's background has been fully vetted by my security department. Her presence does not impact the construction firm’s operational delivery."

"This isn't about construction, you foolish girl!" Lady Nalin snapped, her diamond bracelets clattering violently against the glass table as she leaned forward. "This is about our family’s reputation! The Siri-Wattana name belongs to high society, not to the streets. You are funding my husband's political campaign with your father's money. If your reputation fractures, his campaign funding fractures with it!"

Pongsak closed the dossier with a heavy, deliberate thud. He leaned back, a small, transactional smirk touching his lips. "I’ve already taken steps to correct your error, Queen. I had a very productive meeting with the zoning directors this afternoon. Specifically, Director Suchart."

Babe felt a sharp, sudden jolt in her chest. She stepped forward instinctively, but Queen raised a single hand, a silent command for her to remain still.

"Suchart has agreed to expedite the riverfront permits by Tuesday morning," Pongsak continued smoothly. "On one condition. The Siri-Wattana firm must partner with a secondary logistics subcontractor to oversee the material transport. A firm owned by Suchart’s brother-in-law."

"That is a direct violation of our anti-bribery compliance parameters," Queen stated, her voice dropping into a dangerous, chilling quietness. "I do not sign contracts with shell companies."

"You will sign this one," Pongsak whispered, leaning over the table, his eyes boring into hers. "Because if you don't, Director Suchart will file an official regulatory complaint alleging that you used your corporate funds to illegally pay off the debts of a municipal employee's family—this girl's mother—in exchange for inside information on the zoning bids. It’s a beautifully constructed narrative, Queen. It ruins your firm's compliance rating, voids your father's legacy, and puts your little street rat in a women's correctional facility for corporate fraud."

The silence that followed was suffocating. Babe’s breathing turned shallow, her hands trembling behind her back. She looked down at the back of Queen’s head. The political machinery was too large, too ruthless. They weren't just trying to force them apart; they were going to use Babe as the anvil to smash Queen’s entire life to pieces.

Lady Nalin smiled coldly, smoothing down her designer dress. "It’s a simple transaction, darling. Sign the subcontractor agreement, terminate this girl's employment contract tonight, and send her back to where she belongs. We protect the name, and you keep your towers."

Queen did not move for ten agonizing seconds. She stared at the closed dossier on the table, her face completely expressionless, unreadable to everyone in the room. But beneath the glass table, out of sight of the cameras and the politicians, her fingers curled into tight, white-knuckled fists.

She knew what she had to do to keep Babe safe. The wolves had circled, and the only way to protect her ally was to make them think they had won.

Slowly, Queen stood up, her high heels making a singular, sharp sound against the concrete floor. She didn't look at Babe. She didn't look at her mother.

"Leave the subcontractor documents with my legal department," Queen said, her voice entirely devoid of inflection, a hollow robot of a CEO. "The contract will be reviewed. As for the aide..." She paused, her gaze fixing on the dark window overlooking the city. "Her assignment with my office is concluded effective immediately. Krit will handle her severance."

Babe felt the floor tilt beneath her feet. She stared at Queen's rigid, elegant profile, her chest aching with a sudden, devastating sense of betrayal. She pushed me away. Just like that.

"Excellent," Pongsak said, standing up and smoothing his suit jacket. "I knew you were a sensible businesswoman, Queen. We’ll see you at the charity gala on Thursday."

As the politicians gathered their things and walked out of the boardroom, their smug laughter echoing down the hallway, Babe remained standing in the shadows. The door clicked shut, leaving the two of them alone in the white light.

Queen still did not turn around. She stood like a statue of ice against the glass window.

"Boss..." Babe choked out, her defensive pride fracturing completely. "Did you mean that?"

"Collect your things from the penthouse tonight, Bonita," Queen whispered, her voice dropping into a flat, icy finality that broke the last remaining warmth in the room. "Your debt is settled. Your contract is terminated. Do not come back to this tower."

Babe stared at her for a long, breathless beat, waiting for the woman from the storm to show herself. But the Ice Queen was fully back, her armor thicker and colder than ever before. With a sharp, angry swallow, Babe wiped her face, turned on her heel, and marched out into the dark.

Left entirely alone, Queen finally closed her eyes. A single, silent fracture ran down her stone composure as she gripped the edge of the glass table, her knuckles white, sacrificing her own happiness to keep the only person she loved out of the wolves' jaws.

  • Dangerous Queen   Epilogue THE STRUCTURAL INTEGRITY OF THE SHORE

Five years had passed since the final corporate ledger in Bangkok was permanently closed, but time on the coast did not move in the frantic, clinical intervals of high-society boardrooms. It moved with the slow, predictable rising of the Gulf tide, washing clean the white sands of Prachuap Khiri Khan. The Siri-Wattana & Prapasiri District Medical Center had grown into the structural crown jewel of the province, fully funded by the clean, liquidated charitable trusts Queen had salvaged from her father’s estate. The village was thriving, the eco-tourism docks were bustling, and the wolves of the capital had completely forgotten the coordinates to this beach. It was a brilliant, sun-drenched Saturday afternoon. The ocean was a vast pane of turquoise glass under a cloudless sky, its gentle surf rolling lazily onto the shore beneath the open deck of the beachside home.Queen stood near the teak railing, holding a cup of unsweetened black tea. At thirty-five, she looked breathtakingly beaut

  • Dangerous Queen   Chapter 32 THE UNLOCKED LEDGER

The clinical hum of the district medical center’s south wing had completely faded, replaced by the deep, midnight quiet of their private bedroom. Outside, the steady, rhythmic crash of the Gulf tide rolled over the sand flats of Prachuap Khiri Khan, a clean and comforting baseline under the star-filled coastal sky.In the adjoining nursery room across the short hallway, the perimeter was entirely secure. Little Cha-Cha was fast asleep in her teak bed, and the two newborn twins—their miniature rebel girl and serious little boy—were tucked side by side into their shared cream-colored cradle, completely stable under the watchful eye of Uncle Krit who sat guarding the lower veranda.Inside the master bedroom, only a single low-set amber lamp was lit, casting long, soft shadows across the warm cedar-wood walls.Babe lay propped up against a mountain of pillows at the head of the mattress. She had showered away the exhausting heat of the delivery wing, her long hair damp and smelling faintl

  • Dangerous Queen   Chapter 31 THE EXPANDED HORIZON

The night the next blueprint arrived, the Gulf of Thailand was perfectly calm. The wild monsoon storms that had defined Cha-Cha’s birth a few years prior were absent, replaced instead by a warm, steady coastal breeze that rattled the bamboo chimes on the veranda. The sea was a deep, silent obsidian under a canopy of bright tropical stars.Inside the bedroom, the calm was shattered by the rhythmic, sharp gasp of labor.Babe sat on the edge of the teak bed, her upper body leaning heavily against Queen’s chest. Her oversized vintage t-shirt was soaked with sweat, her long hair clinging to her forehead in dark, damp strands. Her innocent face was pale, tight with the intense pain of a contraction, but her dark eyes were wide, flashing with that unyielding, stubborn pride that defined her very spirit."Don't... don't look at the stopwatch, Queen," Babe choked out, her fingers fisting violently into the fabric of Queen’s linen shirt. "If you tell me the contraction frequency data one more t

  • Dangerous Queen   Chapter 30 THE SHIFT IN THE CURRENT

The fifth month of Babe's pregnancy arrived with the onset of the cool, breezy dry season. The stormy, dark monsoons had completely passed, leaving the Gulf of Thailand looking like a peaceful sheet of bright blue silk under the morning sun.Inside the beachside house, however, the dynamic had undergone a total, chaotic reversal.Queen had officially scaled back her operations at the local medical center to a purely digital consulting role. She spent her days tracking medical charts from a laptop on the kitchen island, but her primary executive focus was entirely centered on Babe. The former "Ice Queen" had channeled all of her hyper-detailed, rigid corporate discipline into managing Babe’s second-trimester parameters."Keeraphat, if you slide another bowl of chopped organic dragonfruit in front of my face, I am going to throw it at the ceiling," Babe groaned, her voice rough, stubborn, and entirely lacking its professional edge.Babe was propped up against a mountain of pillows on th

  • Dangerous Queen   Chapter 29 THE RECIPROCAL BLUEPRINT

The second year on the coast brought an entirely new kind of quietness to the beachside home. The community clinic had settled into a steady, thriving rhythm under the local staff, and little Cha-Cha, now running wildly across the sand in her miniature denim vest, was a constant source of chaotic laughter. But inside the cedar-paneled bedroom on a rainy Tuesday night, the air was thick with a familiar, deep-seated anticipation.Queen sat on the edge of the teak bed, wearing a simple navy linen shirt. Her dark hair was down, framing a face that was entirely relaxed, free from the unreadable armor of her past. She was looking down at a sleek, blue folder from the Bangkok medical center resting on her lap.Across from her, Babe was pacing the length of the hardwood floor, her sneakers squeaking faintly against the timber. She was twenty-three now, her innocent face mature but still holding that fierce, stubborn energy. She wore an oversized graphic tee, her hands fisted deeply into her p

  • Dangerous Queen   Chapter 28 THE FIRST BLUEPRINT CELEBRATED

The violent monsoons that had once marked the day of her birth were replaced twelve months later by a perfectly clear, sun-drenched Saturday afternoon. The Gulf of Thailand was a vast pane of calm, turquoise glass, its gentle waves rolling lazily onto the white sands of Prachuap Khiri Khan. The open wooden deck of the beachside home had been transformed into a vibrant, chaotic celebration. Faded denim streamers and cream-colored linen banners fluttered softly in the sea breeze, hung between the palm trees by a grumbling but secretly smiling Uncle Krit. The local fishing community, the contractors who built the clinic, and even a few medical staff members from the south wing occupied the rattan chairs, their laughter blending with the steady sound of the tide.At the center of a large woven rug on the floor sat the guest of honor: Chanya "Cha-Cha" Siri-Wattana.At exactly one year old, Cha-Cha was a striking testament to her heritage. She sat with her tiny ankles crossed, her posture m
