Aria, Ella, Wyatt, Miles, Landon and Adam. All of them, sitting against the brick sides of the stairs as they were waiting for me.
The sight of them standing there every morning made me smile. I couldn’t help it.
And as soon as I walked up to them, they all greeted me the same way. Everyday. With a hug or a fist pump or anything of that nature.
They really were the best friends that I could ever ask for.
And when we went into school, it was almost like we ran in our own little pack. And I guess we did. It was rare that we would let anyone else in our little friend group, but that doesn’t mean that we were bullies to everyone else.
I was the opposite. I hated bullies and I tried to be friendly to everyone. At least, everyone that deserved it.
“Hey Meadow. Are we still on for that party this weekend? At the abandoned mines?” Adam asked.
“Yeah. As long as you stop talking about it out in the open so my father doesn’t find out.” I said.
“What would happen if your dad does find out?” Aria asked.
“He’s the Alpha. I’m pretty sure he will lock all of us, including me, in the dungeons for the weekend just to teach us a lesson. So stop talking about it.” I said.
“I just wanted to make sure that it was still on.” Adam said.
I heard some raised voices down the hall from where my locker was and I moved Ella and Wyatt out of my way so I could see what was going on and there were two big guy standing there picking on a much younger, smaller and weaker wolf.
I scowled at the sight of them throwing him up against the locker and trying to take his lunch money and just being complete jerks.
So I slammed my locker door as loud as possible, which got everyone’s attention. Including the bullies. And when they saw me standing there, with my arm leaning against the locker, staring at them, they let the poor kid go and he scurried off.
I still stood there staring straight at them with an all too serious look on my face until they decided that it was best that they left as well.
“I love how you do that.” Ella said.
“It’s a gift.” I said.
“It’s the Alpha blood in you.” She corrected me.
“Well, whatever it is. It works.” I said, shrugging my shoulders.
We headed towards our first class, laughing and carrying on like we always did. I guess we all met in the first grade and just became fast friends. Before we even really realized that I was the next Alpha, and before titles meant anything to us. We liked each other for who we were, and that’s why I’ve cherished their friendship. Because they liked me even before they knew that I was next in line to take over this pack when my father decides to retire.
As soon as we got to our first class ‘werewolf history’ we headed to the back of the classroom to our usual seats.
I was sitting at my desk while the guys were sitting on their desk, facing back talking to us when I noticed that there were a few empty seats across the side of the classroom.
I knew who usually sat there. They weren’t too popular by the bullies standards, but they were friends with each other. Which had me wondering what was going on.
The teacher got to the classroom before I could start to ask questions and he got straight into the lesson.
With werewolf history, the Moon Goddess Seline was always mentioned because she was the one that created werewolves. And I always found this subject so interesting.
And I was the future Alpha, so I needed to know all of this stuff and make sure that I aced this class. This was the most important one that I needed to ace.
When class was over we started filing out of the classroom when my phone started buzzing.
I pulled it out of my pocket and looked at the text message.
“You guys go on ahead. I’ll catch up.” I said.
“Is everything alright?” Landon asked.
“Yeah. It’s alright. I’ll just catch up. I have to go and see someone.” I said.
So they just accepted that answer and they walked off to the next class while I walked in the opposite direction.
When I got to the gym I saw a group of people sitting on the stands. Some of them were the ones that weren’t in my class just now. The ones that I noticed were missing.
The crowd parted and I saw one girl sitting there with blood all over her clothes and a fat lip, swollen and black eyes and cuts all over her face and arms.
“What happened?” I asked.
“They jumped her.” One of the others said.
“When? They look fresh. We heal fast and they haven’t healed at all.” I said.
“It happened just before our first class.” The girl said.
“Who?” I asked.
“You know who.” She said.
“Yeah. I’ll take care of it.” I said, turning on my heels and I walked out of the gym.
I met up with my friends at our next class but I wouldn’t tell them what was going on. They didn’t need to know.
And by lunch I went to my locker and I put all of my books in it and I waited for a while until I was sure that everyone would be in the cafeteria.
As soon as I walked into the cafeteria, I stopped at the door and I scanned the room.
I saw those same jock assholes that I stared down this morning sitting at a table with the rest of their friends and all the girls that loved hanging off of them like pathetic groupies.
The leader of the group had his back to me so I walked across the room and without warning to anyone, I grabbed him by the hair and slammed his head into the table, hearing several bones break as I did so.
Whatever was left of the army once Lacy was dead, were taken care of pretty easily afterwards. Once she was dead and they had no one organizing them or helping them attack certain places, then they didn’t know what to do. And they were done for. So we were able to return to the pack with our heads held high. We only had two casualties, and in war, that’s not a bad number. But it is bad in our books. We didn’t want to lose any. 5 YEARS LATER We had finally connected the two packs on new land that we had bought and built on. There was plenty of room for everyone. It was a lot more spread out and there was definitely a lot more people in the pack now. But it was perfect. Lucas and I were both still known as Alpha and his pack finally accepted me as being an Alpha instead of being an outsider. I guess saving us from this war probably helped, and the fact that I killed my own mother instead of changing sides really did things for my credibility. I was walking around the new pack
Lacy stood there completely unfazed by the wolves that were surrounding her, and she didn’t take her eyes off of me. “Stand down.” I ordered my warriors. They all looked at me strangely, but they knew that I meant it. They all walked behind me, so it was Lacy and myself that were facing each other and no one else was in the way to get hurt here. “I always knew that you were going to grow up to be something special.” Lacy said. “How the fuck would you know? You left me.” I said. “I was killed by a vampire.” She said. “No. You chose to leave with that vampire. You wanted to be one of them.” I said. “How could you possibly know that?” She asked. “Because you took me with you once to go and meet that son of a bitch.” I said. “You were too young to remember that.” She said. “Apparently not. I remember. I remember everything. You chose to leave me because you didn’t want him turning me into a vampire until I was ready to make up my own mind.” I said. “Damn. You really d
It took us all day to get to where we were going and we couldn’t risk being seen that night, so we stayed at the next town over. But we left before the sun had even risen the next morning. We got to the house where the vampires were held up and we made sure that we were back far enough, just in case they could sense us inside. We needed to stay back for a long time, to give them a chance to go to sleep. And the problem was that they had chosen a spot that was sort of out of town, but neighbors were still pretty close. “That’s pretty clever of them. They think we won’t attack with neighbors.” I said. “What are we going to do about the civilians?” Tucker asked. “If they’ve got any brains then they would already be gone. There’s no way they could possibly not know that there are vampires next door.” I said. “Look at that house over there. People are inside.” Dean said. So I looked over and he was right. There were people inside. “Tucker. I need you to evacuate the neighborhood. The
Aria, Jason and I all got up from the table and followed them outside. Lucas had thrown David down the stairs and he was standing over him on the lawn out the front of the packhouse, giving him one hell of a beating. “The only reason you are my Beta is because you were born into the role. I could very easily give it to someone else but I believed that you deserved a fucking chance. I don’t believe that anymore. I believe that you need to prove to me that you deserve to be Beta, otherwise you won’t be anymore. I can think of several good men that I can put in your position. So don’t think you are irreplaceable, because you’re not. Now get the fuck out of my face.” Lucas yelled, letting go of David’s shirt. David scurried to his feet and he left the packhouse and Lucas turned around to see the rest of us standing on the veranda. “You shouldn’t have done that. I can take care of myself.” I said. “I know you can. But I’ve been getting sick of his attitude for a while.” Lucas said.
I spent the rest of the day putting together the appropriate teams to go after each nest. After looking at what David did, I could see that he had just thown teams together. And that was going to get them all killed. We needed a leader, a second in command and strong warriors to fight these battles. But some of the people that he had in these teams were definitely going to get themselves killed. I wasn’t sending them at all. They could stay back with the larger group of warriors and protect the pack. They had a better chance of survival that way. I made it very clear that this wasn’t a suicide mission and I wasn’t sending people off to their deaths by going after these nests. The objective was to kill the vampires and come home. That was it. I was starting to wonder how the hell he got the position of Beta in the first place. He definitely didn’t show me why he should be Beta. Except for his loyalty towards Lucas. But a Beta needs to have more than loyalty. They need to know ho
Jason was brought to the packhouse and we explained the situation to him and he was more than willing to try for a leadership role in this new mission that we were planning. Lucas and I took him down to the training field and there were a group of warriors already waiting there. We gave them a task to do and we needed to see if Jason could get them out of it with leadership skills. They took off to the woods where a whole scene was set up and where they would be attacked by other wolves waiting for them, ready to attack. They needed to follow the path, ward off the attacks and come up with new and inventive ways of doing it. This was Jason’s big test and we stayed back at the training field waiting for them. I laid down on the ground, knowing that it was going to take a while for them to complete while I was staring up at the sky. “What are you thinking about?” Lucas asked, sitting next to me. “Honestly. I am trying not to think about a damn thing.” I said. “Bullshit. I
