Chapter 11: Setting the Stage

The car glided to a halt in front of an elegant venue nestled along the waterfront. Liam, Reese, and Shawn stepped out, admiring the sprawling gardens and modern architecture that would soon host the event Chelsea was designing. The crisp air carried a hint of salt from the ocean, and the scenery was a breathtaking blend of manicured greenery and glass facades that caught the light just right.

Reese looked around, impressed. “Chelsea must be thrilled to work with a place like this,” she murmured.

Liam nodded, an approving glint in his eye. “Let’s see if her vision matches the surroundings.”

Inside, they found Chelsea bustling around, already immersed in preparations. She wore a sleek, practical outfit that allowed her to move with ease, her hands full of floral samples and swatches of fabric.

“Chelsea,” Liam greeted, his voice carrying authority yet warmth. She turned, her face lighting up when she saw them.

“Liam! Reese!” she exclaimed, hurrying over. “Thank you so much for coming to see the progress.”

Liam gave a slight nod. “I’m eager to see what you’ve got planned. Reese has had only good things to say about you.”

Chelsea’s cheeks colored slightly, but she beamed. “I’ll give you the grand tour, then!”

She led them to the ballroom, explaining how she envisioned transforming it. Chelsea gestured to the high ceilings and the rows of windows overlooking the ocean. “I wanted to create something elegant yet approachable,” she explained. “For the centerpieces, I’m thinking of blending tall, sleek arrangements with small clusters of flowers at each table. It should feel like a mix of modern and classic.”

Reese nodded in approval. “I love the combination. It gives it a timeless feel.”

Liam remained silent, his gaze moving thoughtfully over the room, taking in the sketches Chelsea had displayed on a nearby table. He picked one up, examining her notes and sketches.

“Very detailed,” he remarked. “It seems you’ve put a lot of thought into this.”

Chelsea nodded enthusiastically. “I wanted everything to feel cohesive and purposeful, down to the smallest details.”

Shawn joined the conversation, glancing over at a board with swatches pinned beside photographs. “These colors… they’re bold but tasteful. You’re taking a risk with the deep hues, aren’t you?”

Chelsea met his gaze confidently. “It’s a calculated risk. I think the richness of the color scheme will add sophistication without overpowering the guests. And, as a backup, I’ve chosen a set of neutral alternatives if it seems too intense once we set up.”

Liam’s lips quirked into a faint smile. “You’re prepared,” he observed.

Chelsea’s expression softened slightly. “I just want everything to be perfect.”

Liam’s gaze held hers for a moment longer than necessary. “That’s exactly what we want, too.”

They moved to another part of the venue, where Chelsea explained her plans for the outdoor seating area. She envisioned lanterns suspended from trees, creating a warm glow that would contrast the cool ocean backdrop. Reese watched her friend with admiration, clearly proud of Chelsea’s thoroughness and creativity.

“This place will be unforgettable, Chelsea,” Reese said warmly. “I knew you were the perfect person for the job.”

Chelsea’s eyes sparkled with gratitude, and for a moment, she seemed lost for words. “Thank you, Reese. Really.”

Liam took a final look around, seemingly pleased. “I look forward to seeing it all come together. Make sure everything is ready well before the event.”

Chelsea nodded determinedly. “Absolutely. I won’t disappoint.”

Liam and Reese shared a glance, satisfied with the direction Chelsea was taking. After a few final words of encouragement, they made their way back to the car, with Chelsea waving goodbye from the venue entrance, her eyes gleaming with excitement.

As they slid into the car, Liam glanced at Reese. “You made a good call recommending her.”

Reese’s smile was smug but playful. “I knew you’d appreciate her vision.”

The drive was short, and soon they were back at the office building. Liam checked his watch, a contemplative look settling on his face.

Shawn, ever observant, noticed. “Sir, is there something else you need to handle today?”

Liam nodded, a rare softness in his expression. “Yes. I’d like to visit my mother and grandmother this afternoon. My grandmother isn’t doing well, and I need to check on her.”

Reese’s expression softened. “I didn’t realize she was unwell. I’m sorry to hear that, Liam.”

Liam gave her a small nod, appreciative of the sentiment. “It’s been difficult. She’s had a nurse with her most of the time, but she always says seeing family makes her feel better.”

The car pulled up at the curb near the office, and Liam looked over at Reese and Shawn. “I’ll leave you both to finish up here. Reach out if there’s anything urgent.”

Shawn nodded, and Reese offered him a supportive smile. “Take your time, Liam. Family is important.”

Liam’s face softened again, and he simply nodded before exiting the car. He took another car from the building, allowing his driver to handle the rest of the trip.

---

The scenery changed as they drove further from the busy city center, where skyscrapers and sleek buildings gave way to cozy residential areas. Liam gazed out the window, memories drifting through his mind. He thought of all the times his grandmother had been there for him, her advice steady and wise. She’d been a pillar of strength in his life, and now, as her health faded, he was determined to be there for her as she’d always been for him.

Arriving at his family home, he was greeted warmly by the housekeeper, who led him upstairs to his grandmother’s room. She lay in bed, her frail figure propped up by pillows. A nurse sat nearby, adjusting her IV and keeping a close eye on her condition.

“Liam,” his grandmother whispered, a smile lighting up her face as he entered the room. “You’re here.”

He approached her bedside, leaning down to kiss her hand gently. “Of course, Grandma. How are you feeling today?”

She chuckled, a soft, brittle sound. “As well as can be expected, I suppose. But seeing you makes the day brighter.”

His mother, Whitney, entered the room with a soft smile, standing beside her mother’s bed. Liam offered her a hug, the two of them sharing a quiet moment of solidarity. They exchanged updates on his grandmother’s care and chatted with her for a while, filling the room with warmth and laughter.

After a while, the nurse gently reminded them that his grandmother needed to rest. Whitney and Liam shared a meaningful glance, silently agreeing that they’d done their best to lift her spirits.

Downstairs, Whitney took Liam’s hand. “You’re doing so much for her, Liam. Thank you.”

Liam nodded, his gaze tender. “I owe her a lot. She’s always been there for us.”

They shared a quiet moment in the dimly lit hallway, a bond of family connecting them in ways words couldn’t capture.

As Liam left the house that evening, he felt a mix of emotions—determination to do right by his family and resolve to make the upcoming event a success. It was a new chapter, not only for Chelsea but for him as well.

Each responsibility weighed on him, yet he found strength in the love and loyalty that had always held his family together.

The glass doors slid open, welcoming them into a world of luxury boutiques, soft jazz, and the scent of expensive perfume.Liam placed a gentle hand on Chelsea’s back. “We don’t have to rush,” he said. “Just pick whatever you want. You deserve it.”Chelsea smiled faintly. “You make it sound like I’m not used to shopping.”He chuckled. “Well, after tomorrow’s dinner, you might need a few new dresses. My stepmother doesn’t miss a single detail.”She rolled her eyes, teasing. “Oh, so you’re saying I should impress her?”“I’m saying,” he said with a grin, “I don’t want her thinking I’m dating someone who doesn’t know fashion.”Chelsea laughed softly, shaking her head as they entered a designer store. She walked between racks of glittering gowns and silk dresses, her fingers brushing over the fabrics. Liam trailed behin

The ride from the company had been silent until now, but as soon as they stepped into the living room, Marina finally broke it.“Well,” she said, setting her purse on the glass table, “I must say, that was quite an unexpected reunion.” She turned to face her son, her voice calm but her eyes sharp. “Chelsea. Of all people. Dating Liam?”Adams threw his jacket onto the couch and let out a bitter laugh. “You think I don’t see what she’s doing, Mother? It’s obvious. She’s trying to make me jealous.” He poured himself a drink, downing it in one gulp before continuing. “She probably wants me to regret ever leaving her. But I don’t. Not one bit.”Marina raised a brow, clearly unconvinced. “Oh, don’t fool yourself, Adams. You sounded more shaken than you’d like to admit when you saw her walk in today.” She walked toward the mirror, adjusting her earrings with

Your grandfather’s death shifted a lot of influence toward him. We need to be cautious.”Adams nodded stiffly, adjusting his tie. “I know, Mother. But let’s not forget — I’ve been in this office far longer than he has. The board trusts me.”Marina gave him a long, thoughtful glance. “Trust is fickle, my dear. Especially when money and legacy are involved.”When they arrived at the boardroom, the directors were already seated. There was a low buzz of conversation until the chairman cleared his throa
