Mother's love
***present day world***Mira's POVI came back home in rags, running for my dear life for several long minutes, though there was no immediate threat. Good old reflex, I guess. I turned my keys and the door flung open. I was about to jump right in, pulling my disheveled hair behind when I heard my mother speak, " Mira, you are not coming back straight from school! "She had her back towards me and she had something in her hand. As she slowly turned, I noticed that she had a letter between her palms, which she was reading. Did my school write a complaint already? It wasn't that long. And what was my mother doing, coming home at this time, without informing me? I held my breath as I kicked my shoes open and slowly locked the door after walking in. I was cooking up excuses in my head. A possible thing that could convince my mother that leaving school for the time being, was the best thing. But then she smiled and her right hand landed on my shoulder with a pat. What on earth was happening? Was she praising me for quitting school? That was impossible. " Never in my life did I ever imagine that my daughter would be travelling abroad, all alone, without me, to study. "My eyes were blinking rapidly. What did my ears hear? Where did my mother get the money to send me off to a foreign land for education? " Congratulations Mira, you have been selected as an exchange student. "Oh! F*ck! So that was the case. " Really? "I snatched the letter from her hand and went through, thoroughly, to make sure there was no mistake. I was in fact selected to represent my school for the exchange program. I would have to pack my bag for almost half a year, which was actually a very welcome situation. I would get to continue my studies, yet I would be able to stay away from the students. I was wondering why I was the one selected amongst all the other people, when I remembered that we had our grading exam at the end of this year. The privileged students must have opted out of this invitation. I didn't care. This was a lifetime opportunity which I would never miss. " You didn't know? I thought they kept you back extra hours to prepare you before your departure. "My mother's question took me off guard again as I was lost in my thoughts. " Departure? When is that? "I asked, going through the letter again, looking for the dates. " Tomorrow. You leave tomorrow. That is why they called me urgently , to get my consent. I left everything and hurried back here. "My jaws dropped as she chirped and hopped towards the fridge, probably looking for ingredients to cook up a farewell meal. My mother was that kind of a person who felt that resting was a sin. She would insist on cooking her own food even when she ran a high fever or tripped on the floor the day before. I let her do whatever she wanted as I looked at the calender, the clock and the planner in my phone. I spent the next few seconds, making calls, looking for bags, looking for my stuffs, downloading packing lists, printing my tickets and more messy things like that. I was a first time flyer. I was about to travel alone . It was my first time out of the country. It would be my first time living without my mom. And I had less than twenty four hours to get all my shits together." Here, keep this. Your school is paying for everything but it's good to have a little money with you when you are in foreign lands. "My mother came back from the kitchen. She pressed the little bundle of old noted, which still smelled like wheat flour. I knew she hid her savings in that jar but I also knew that it was meant for dire situations. I couldn't take that, especially when I would not be around. She needed to take care of herself in my absence. " No! " I bluntly pushed her away and kissed her hands, " All I need is your love and your prayers. That would be enough to keep me afloat. Did you not teach me that we did not need to be dependant on money?Rest assured mother, your daughter learnt well through the years. "Her eyes twinkled as she looked at me with pride, as we sang in chorus, "Love is all we need. "Xen's POVI found myself standing in a narrow, desolate alley, trapped in the clutches of my subconscious. The darkness engulfed me, suffocating and overwhelming. The air was heavy with an unspoken threat, sending shivers down my spine. With every step that I took, the sense of foreboding intensified. I could feel the unseen eyes peering at me, lurking in the shadows. The silence was broken only by the distant echoes of my footsteps, echoing like a haunting requiem.Suddenly, a flickering streetlight came into view, casting macabre shapes on the cracked pavement. It illuminated an object, nestled on the ground. A blade. Its steel glimmered malevolently, reflecting my mounting fear.Driven by an inexplicable compulsion, I reached out to touch it. As my trembling fingers made contact with the cold metal, a surge of electricity coursed through my veins. The room was shrouded in darkness, save for the faint glow of the moonlight slipping through the blinds. I gasped for breath, my heart
***in the other world***" Where is our son, my love? "The woman asking the question was dressed in such a beautiful manner that her presence screamed royalty from every angle. The person in front of her looked equally elegant. A tall man on the throne. A king, with no mistakes. " He is where he ought to be. You need not worry about him, sweetheart. Your body is still recovering. You should go back to your chamber. "The woman's hair turned slowly red as she stepped towards the throne with calculated steps. " Ought to be my king? And where is that? "Her hair strands were slowly standing up as her voice intensified. " I carried him for nine months. I couldn't even hold him in my arms and feed him my milk... "" I can't believe you, of all people, could be bothered by frivolous things like these... " The king made a sharp turn towards her and it made her even more angry. Her head was now adorned with a gigantic crimson crown, made of supercharged, standing hair. " Frivolous? You t
***present day world***Mira's POV -" This is it then... Mamma, take care of yourself and don't worry. I will give you a call when I land. "I hugged her so tight that I could have crushed her frail frame. What was more amazing was the force with which she hugged back. It was ten times rougher and tighter than mine. She was fighting to hold back her tears. And so was I. It was my first time staying away from her. It was my first time going away so far. After the last round of announcements for boarding, I had no option but to hurry my way towards the entry point. They let me in after checking my documents. I was shown inside the craft with a smile. I settled down at the window. And stared out of it, watching the big wings which were about to carry us all. I looked around. It was a crowded space. People were trying to get to their seats, arrange their luggage, and tuck in their babies as the air hostesses went about helping everybody. It was a long and exhausting flight but we final
Mira's POVThis new hostel was no joke, I must insist. I honestly felt, I was at a hotel when I tried getting my room number at the reception. I mean, what hostel even has a reception? They have warden rooms and the main office, right? Or am I just being a low class naive? Anyways, I learnt that I was going to share a room with a roommate.I patiently carried my baggage up and knocked on the door, even though I had the keys. If there was someone already residing in that space, I was only intruding. I was trying to be as less hostile as possible. After all, I had come to the place for a little peace. " Did they not give you those damn keys? "A half awake voice, flung the door open. She was wearing a t-shirt and matching shorts. Her hair was silver and tied up in a messy bun. She was at least a few inches taller than me and she stood there, staring me up and down, from behind a half rimmed glass that she was wearing. " Ummm, Hi, I'm Mira. Ummm, well I do have the keys but I didn
It was going to take Mira a lot of time to adjust to her new place. It was very clear to her. What was not clear was the fact that a world beyond her imagination was already awaiting her. She had no idea that people, who were not human, like her, had already started surrounding her presence. She hurried towards her first class for the day, A Brief Introduction to Historical Architectures. She burst inside the classroom, which was more like an auditorium, a movie theater with a gigantic 3-D screen. They were being shown some documentary and the room was pitch black except for the light from the screen. As soon as she entered, the light from the outside corridor entered like a flood, forcing the entire class to turn in her direction. " I... I am looking for the final year History class... Am I... Am I at the right place? "A very husky voice from amidst the dark replied, " Indeed, this is the History class for the final year students. Are you by chance an exchange student? "Mir
" Is it necessary for you to leave? We have already arranged for a representative for the exchange program. You don't need to waste your senior years for something like this? You can go on a vacation if you need a break. Why are you insisting on going for the Exchange Student Program? "Braze's mother had no knowledge that he was applied to be on that list, even though she was the principal. It was primarily because it was a trivial matter and things like these were handled by her subordinates. It was when her son was about to leave, that she knew about the matter and she definitely didn't look pleased. " I just want to go for the ESP, Mama. What's the big deal about it? "It wasn't like he and his mother were particularly affectionate. Besides, he too needed his time away from Mira. He knew he was running from his reality. Those dreams that were haunting him lately, those urges that were telling him that he didn't belong where he was, those voices that were whispering in his cons
Mia's POV" So you study here. Were you on holiday when... when we first met? I mean when you saved me? "It was a little awkward when we saw each other again at the canteen. There was no running away this time. He came right up to me with his hand full of food and drinks, while, I only had a sandwich. Well that was all I could afford with my food pass because there were too many options to get spoiled from. Too many exquisite dishes spread all across the gigantic hall. He smiled instead of answering. " Come, let's take that table and eat. I am starving. "He grabbed me by my wrist and pulled to the corner most empty seat. " Here, eat... " He thrust the big packet of nachos right in my face. " Oh, thank you so much... you didn't tell me you had such a generous boyfr... I mean friend Mia. "It was Stella, my new found , self proclaimed best friend. I have no idea where she appeared from. She pouced right at the packet from over my head, dropping crumbs all over my dress as she gobb
Braze's POV" Stop. Please stop. Please don't shout,I am not here to hurt you. I need help. "I was trying to tell her through my gruff voice but my words drowned when I accidentally pressed the hot water button in the shower. It didn't feel much when it fell on my back but the moment it touched her fair, naked skin, I could see scalding , instantly. Nobody could blame her when she went out yelling again, and screaming as I fought hard to stop the water that had caused all the mayhem. Within the next few seconds the guards were at the door, ringing her bell. She grabbed her bathrobe and ran towards the door knob. I don't know if it was the urgency of the situation or my new found abnormality, but I literally flew past her and held the doorknob before she could unlock the latch. " I am not here to hurt you. "This time I articulated perfectly. I fell on her feet but she jumped back, possibly thinking I was a perverted being. I should have been faster than my body and told her mor
