Chapter 5

𝘿𝙖𝙫𝙞𝙙'𝙨 𝙋𝙊𝙑. 

I was sitting in the conference room of my building to totally lost in my goddess and how adorable and cut she looked when she was embarrassed. 

She apologized and swore to finish the project on time. 

I left her knowing she was feeling shy and uncomfortable but with a smile on my face. 

"David? " 

I heard someone call my name and snapped out of my reverie only to find all eyes on me and I cleared my throat to cover up the embarrassment. 

"Are you okay. " Oliver who was giving the presentation asked and I nodded and signalled him to continue. 

With a few hours, contracts were signed for a new resort in Hawaii and all moved out except Oliver and Collin. 

Oliver looked at me concerned and he frown at him. 

"Are you sure you are okay? " He asked in concern and I nodded but heard a giggle and turned to find Collin giggling and rolled my eyes at him. 

"How would he be Okay when he has fallen for a gorgeous black queen who happens to be the head of the American team renovating his house. " 

Oliver looked at me shocked and I glared at Collin who did seem affected by rather had I challenging look on his face. 

"Who is it? " Oliver asked. 

"It's the lady we met at the restaurant yesterday. " 

Oliver looked shocked but it turned into a smile. 

"And you won't believe what I found out today." Collin exclaimed as he sat down closer to Oliver.

"What? "

"She got sick and nanny made her some soup and was going to send Blake to deliver it to her but lover boy here offered to take it to here. "

Oliver turned to look at me and smirked. 

"So that why you were distracted......... Our playboy is in love finally. " 

Oliver said and Collin nodded totally ignoring the daggers I was throwing at them. 

"Am not in love okay....... Am numb to all feelings of love and it just an attraction, she is different from the others but that doesn't mean I love her and for crying out loud, I just met her. " I defended but the idiots were not convinced. 

"Have you heard about love at first sight....... We saw how your eyes twinkled when you saw her and I will bet you are in love and I mean really in love and not the that phony feelings you had for you know who. " 

I felt anger rush through the body of my best friend and little brother but for some shocking reason, I didn't react the way I use to each time I heard her name. 

Could I be really in love like they are saying or is this just some fleeting attraction. 

My reverie was broken by the ring of my phone and I looked at it and saw the caller iD and I knew I was about to get an earful of scolding. 

"Hello mum. " 

"Hi baby. " 

I groan in annoyance at her calling me baby which I have told her a million times not to. 

"Mum....... For God sakes I am thirty years old so stop calling me baby....... It was already embarrassing when I was young so imagine at my age. " 

"Well no matter how old you and Collin are, I won't stop calling you my babies because you are. " 

I gave up knowing she won't stop. 

"Any ways back to why I called you...... I was mad at you for not showing up for dinner but after finding out about your girlfriend, I mellowed so bring her over to the house...... I want to met the girl my baby has fallen in love with. " 

My head whipped back at my brother in shock to see him smirking. 

"Mum what the hell are you talking about? " 

I asked and heard my father's voice in the background and knew my mum was on loudspeaker like I was. 

"Boy stop it....... You brother told us about your girlfriend who happens to be the head of the team renovating your house and how she was sick and also you visiting her this morning because she was sick. " 

"Poor baby...... She must be all alone...... What kind of a fiancee are you to leave her all alone knowing she is sick. " 

My mother said with concern and I heard my father hum in the background. 

"But mum. " 

"You listen to me boy. " My mum cut me off before I could tell the truth. " Your father and I didn't raise you like this so get up and straight to her apartment and take care of her or else I won't ever speak to you again. " 

I sighed in frustration hearing my mom's shaky and upset voice and I knew she was on the verge of crying. 

She was an expert at getting her ways and knew I can't live peacefully knowing I upsetted her. 

"Okay mom. " 

"That's my boy. " She squealed. 

"Now I she to go and don't you dare go back on your word because I have spies everywhere. " 

"I won't mum. " 

I said while glaring at Collin who didn't even flinch like he use to before. 

"Bye my baby..... I love you. " 

The line cut off afterwards and I stood up and charged at Collin who swiftly dodged and hid behind a laughing Oliver. 

"David come down...... The damage had already been done so go along with it. " 

"What the hell!?...... Are you two mad....... I just met the woman for Good sake and you've already lied to mum about her being my girlfriend....... You already know how mum is...... She has been dying for us to bring home a girl and now you just made that happen and do you know how upset she will be if she finds out the truth....... Mum's condition is already delicate and you have complicated things with this. " 

I yelled and saw my brother's face etched in guilt which I hated because I love him much but I hate seeing any emotions of sadness on his face apart from his usual happy self. 

I sighed and run my hand through my hair in guilt. 

"You went too far Collin....... What if she has a boyfriend?...... What if she is a lesbian?........ What if she doesn't like me?..... What then?...... Mum getting pregnant at her age is already rare and now even more risky...... If she finds out you lied then she will be hurt and it will stress her out."

"Am sorry David......... I thought using mum will push you to pursue her....... For the first time u saw something in your eyes which wasn't must and I knew after Selina, moving on and trusting any woman will be difficult but I never thought about the consequences it might have on mum........ But please let's play along with it until she delivers and then we can tell her the truth........ We can also speak to Maya and I know she will definitely help us if we plead with her....... Am so sorry. "

Collin looked so guilt that it hurt and I knew he was trying to help but I doubt Maya will agree. 

Two hours later, we sat in Maya's apartment and anger was etched on her face. 

Collin had told her about everything playing it off as a prank. 

"Are you three crazy?........ How can you asked me to pretend to be his girlfriend just for your mother........ I hate deceit and hate is when it's done against others..... Just tell her the truth and get it over with. " 

She said sternly and it made me admire her even more. 

I was going to offer her money to do it but hearing her made me back off because I finally seeing she is a decent and self respecting woman. 

"We would if we could. " Collin said. " She is pregnant. " My goddess's eyes widened in shock at the revelation. "And I never thought my harmless prank will get out of control. "

"Well it did....... How old is you mother? " She asked. 

"She is forty eight years old and seven months pregnant and her pregnancy is very risky to both her and the child " Collin and my goddess sighed. 

"Okay fine I will do it until your mother is out of danger. " 

She agreed and we all smiled but I was mentally  jumping for joy. 

"But I have some conditions for your brother. " She said looking at me with her Hazel eyes which was so mesmerizing that I was pulling me in. "Only if he agrees to it will I play along with this. " 

"Name them. " Oliver said. 

"There will be no touching in the absence of your parent and people they know. " 

I nodded. 

"Two....... I don't want the media to know about our fake relationship. " 

I was amazed but nodded. 

"Three....... Only kisses on the cheeks and hands are allowed, hand holding and waisting touching is allowed but apart from that nothing else is not allowed....... And defy any of these conditions and I will expose you and kick your butt. "

I smiled and nodded as she took a sigh of relief.
