Chapter 4

Author: Dawn
I heard footsteps approaching, growing louder with each step. Then, Rosie’s voice floated over.

“Honey, your things are in the guest room. There’s no need for you to rest in the master bedroom…”

When she stepped inside and saw the state of the room, her eyes went wide with surprise as though she had no idea what Tyler had done.

Her gaze flickered briefly to where our engagement photo used to hang, and a flash of awkwardness crossed her face. However, she quickly recovered and said with deep affection, “Honey, this was all Tyler’s idea. I only went along because he’s now recognized as the inventor of the research project. That’s why…”

As she went on, her voice grew quieter and quieter under my calm, unflinching stare.

I let out a cold laugh and casually gestured toward the bed.

“And what about those? Were those your ideas too?”

Rosie’s face went pale, then turned red with anger.

“Evan, I really didn’t know about this!

“I’ve been running myself ragged for the company. I gave Tyler a key, but I didn’t pay attention to what he was doing.

“If you’re not okay with this, I’ll have him move out right now!”

“No need.”

I noticed the bright red love bite on the back of her neck and cut her off sharply.

I walked to the guest room. My belongings were piled haphazardly in a corner. Some important documents had been tossed carelessly on the floor and were smudged with dirty footprints.

Rosie trailed behind me, and Tyler strolled leisurely after her.

Seeing the mess in the guest room, a smug look flashed across Tyler’s eyes. He then turned to Rosie with an apologetic smile as he wrapped his arm around her waist.

“Sorry, Rosie. I’m no good at keeping things tidy. That’s why Evan’s stuff ended up like this.

“I grew up in a small town. I’ve never even seen half this stuff before. I honestly didn’t know how to handle it.”

Rosie’s expression softened when she heard his words. She cradled his face and comforted him gently.

“It’s okay. I’ll buy you whatever you need in a couple of days. Evan’s a kind person. He doesn’t mind, right?”

Her words carried a veiled threat.

I could only laugh as I looked at the scattered documents. Many of them were important business materials for Nelson Corporation.

I stepped toward the door and calmly closed it as I caught Rosie’s wary gaze.

Then, I pulled out my phone and checked the recording. Perfect! Everything had been captured.

I could not rip off the mask just yet. Untangling the web of interests between the Nelsons and my family, the Quinns, would take time.

I also needed to warn my parents and make sure the tragedy of my previous life never repeated itself.

My phone lit up with a video call from Rosie at two in the morning.

I turned on the screen recording function before answering. The screen immediately filled with bare, flushed skin and Rosie’s breathless moans. What they were doing did not need explaining.

Tyler’s teasing voice rang out.

“Rosie, isn’t this exciting? Your future husband’s right next door. If you scream louder, he might hear everything.”

“You little devil! Be gentler! So what if he hears? He loves me so much. He won’t say a word even if he finds out.”

“You’re amazing, Rosie. You even got him to agree to take the fall for you. But when he’s out of prison, are you really going to marry him? What about me?”

“Don’t worry, sweetheart, I’ll handle him. Once he’s locked up, I’ll be the one calling the shots out here. And hey! Be careful with the baby!”

“Heh, I knew you’d take care of me, Rosie. Don’t worry, our baby is fine.”

Perhaps their movements got too intense, as Rosie’s phone slipped off the bed and landed on the floor. The screen went black, but the lewd noises continued.

After recording the key parts, I hung up without hesitation.

I compiled the evidence into a document and sent it to my parents to prepare them for what was coming. Once I finished explaining everything to them, I picked up a worn business card and dialed the number on it.

“Jasmine, it’s Evan Quinn. There’s something I’d like to discuss. Let’s meet in person…”

Smack! The sharp sound of a slap cut her off. She clutched her cheek, staring at me in utter disbelief. This was the first time I had ever raised a hand to her, but it would not be the last.“I let you go once. You should’ve stayed far away instead of crawling back to make a fool of yourself!”Rosie’s eyes darkened as she glared at me. Then, like a madwoman, she lunged forward, screaming, “You came back too, didn’t you?! I knew it. You were reborn just like me!“We’re the same now! That’s why we’re meant to be together!”Her words made my stomach twist. My face stayed calm, but inside, I was shaken. I still managed to press the call button for the nurse.“Doctor, I think she’s mentally unstable. She keeps saying strange things about being reborn.”The nurse and doctor rushed in with furrowed brows.“It sounds like a full psychotic break—hallucinations and delusions. Get the sedatives ready!”“I’m not crazy! I’m telling the truth! Evan, you’ve been reborn too! There’s no other

I never thought those words would end up becoming a prophecy.Over the years, our friendship had drifted apart until we barely spoke. After hearing about my engagement, she had cut ties completely.I admitted there was a part of me that was testing the waters, wondering if she would even pick up on the night I called her. I never expected her to agree to my request without hesitation. My gaze lingered on Jasmine as my mind drifted. I did not even notice how red the tips of her ears had turned.By the time I came back to my senses, the room was empty. She was gone, and all she had left behind was a bowl of cereal. It was still warm and smelled so sweet across the table. The sight of that familiar cereal made me chuckle. After all these years, she still could not cook. This was the only thing she could make that was edible.I thought submitting that ironclad evidence would bring everything to an end. However, I underestimated just how far Rosie’s father would go. Three months la

“Once he steps on stage to challenge you, your reputation will be solid!“If things don’t go as planned, I’ve got fake evidence of him selling classified intel. No matter what happens, he’ll still be our stepping stone.”Tyler grinned with satisfaction when he saw Rosie’s confident smirk.“Perfect! Just wait and watch me dominate that launch event tomorrow!"The two of them kissed passionately as though the world around them did not exist. The video cut off there, but everyone in the courtroom could already imagine what came next.Rosie’s face went completely pale before it twisted with rage as she screamed, “Turn it off! Shut it off now! It’s fake! That’s a deepfake video!“I’m the real victim here! They’re framing me with fabricated evidence!”However, no one in the courtroom paid her any mind. The shocking reversal had the entire place buzzing with disbelief.“I also have evidence of these two violating the law and leaking national secrets. It’s already been submitted to th

“Stop! What are you doing?!”Rosie kicked open the basement door, storming in with her people. The moment her eyes landed on the scene in front of her, her face twisted in shock. She quickly barked an order at the bodyguards to pull us apart. Then, she shot me a look of pure disgust.“Evan! I was wrong about you!“Tyler has no grudges against you, yet you’re beating him like you want him dead. You’re going to pay for this today!”Without a moment’s hesitation, she grabbed a heavy rod from the side and swung it down hard against my body.Smack! Smack! Smack! The specially-made rod carried a punishing weight. Within moments, I could feel warm blood soaking through my clothes. Rosie stood to the side, watching coldly as the strikes rained down.At one point, the pain was too much, and I blacked out—only to be jolted awake by a bucket of icy water being dumped over my head. The blows did not stop until she had counted all ninety-nine strikes. Only then did Rosie finally set the r

Meals were brought to me three times a day, but the place felt like it had been forgotten by the outside world. That night, Rosie appeared in a silk nightgown. Her beautiful face was bare of makeup as she gazed at me with a look of tender sorrow.“Evan, don’t blame me for this! I had no choice but to do things this way to make sure nothing went wrong!”Her eyes shimmered with tears. Her pitiful expression was designed to tug at the heartstrings of any man. “I’m carrying your child. Do you really think I’d ever hurt you?”When I showed no reaction to her words, a flicker of panic crossed her face. She rushed to explain.“It’s true. I’m over two months along! Look, I even have the pregnancy certificate from the hospital!“If you go to prison, I’ll guard the Quinn family’s legacy with this child until you return!”By now, she had finally stopped pretending. This was her last gambit, using the child to bind herself to the Quinn family fortune. In my previous life, after my death

The next morning, just as I was about to leave the house, Rosie stepped in front of me with her brows furrowed.“Evan, this is a critical time. You can’t go out!”I looked at her calmly, my voice as cold as ice.“Where I go is my business. Move!”The sound of an entertainment news broadcast floated from the TV at that moment.“Shocking! The Quinn Group’s general manager has been caught plagiarizing groundbreaking research! How will the rising star of the scientific world fight back?”I let out a low laugh when I heard that. My face twisted with mockery as I turned to Rosie.“So this is the ironclad promise you made to me?”Her eyes darted away for a moment before she straightened her back, speaking with false righteousness.“It was going to come out anyway. Whether it’s sooner or later makes no difference!“Besides, this coverage gives Tyler an even bigger boost. The live-streamed trial in three days will be great for him, too!“And really, why should we care about something
