Unsheathing her sword from her back, Harley spun around just in time as another one of the evil abominations tried to launch an attack and swung her sword, slicing the vampire directly across its chest. It let out an ear piercing shriek as black blood spilled out through its open wound. Dodging another attempted attack, she swung her sword again, this time aiming for its throat. The vampire fell to its knees, giving her an advantage. Sheathing her sword, and retrieving the stake that she had dropped earlier in the fight, she slowly walked over to it. Looking into its stone cold eyes, she brought her knee up and struck it in the face, causing it to fall flat on its back. She knelt down beside him and swiftly jammed the stake in its chest. With one final shriek, the vampire wriggled before bursting into nothing but ashes. Fuelled with anger that her father had ignited, Harley roamed the city just waiting for the chance to unleash her fury on one of the abominations that roamed the earth. Though the problem was that the night seemed quiet. On a normal night, she would have made at least three kills within the first half an hour, but tonight she had been out much longer than that and still hadn't encountered any vampires. Something didn't feel right about it either, but she couldn't quite put her finger on what it was. The cold made her shiver as she moved slowly through the city. Most nights it wouldn't be a problem since she would be moving fast and fighting, which would warm her body up quickly. Feeling confused and even a little lost as there wasn't anything that needed to be done, she changed her route and headed towards the quieter, more isolated parts of the city. Still coming down from the fight, Harley nodded her head as she was too breathless to speak. If he had wanted to kill her, there was no doubt that she would be dead already. Harley held the pendant firmly in her hand as she remained lost in her own thoughts. Mason used this silence to study her, the best he could. It was not easy since she seemed dead set on hiding away from him. He thought briefly about using mind control, but had decided against it as he wanted their conversation to be real and not forced. In the time that Harley had been out, the sky had turned a deep purple colour, a few claps of thunder had erupted from the clouds and it had begun to rain heavily. Brushing her wet hair out of her face, she squinted to see where she was heading. The torrential downpour had made it difficult to even keep her eyes open without them stinging from rain water. Despite the lack of roaming vampires due to their leader's plan, she knew that a good few wouldn't be able to resist coming out during a storm since it enhanced their thirst for a short period of time. After all, the more blood thirsty they were, the less control they had over themselves. She shivered as the rain soaked her clothes, causing them to stick to her skin. It was now Harley's turn again to ask a question. She knew exactly what she wanted to ask this time. It was something that had been on her mind since Mason had saved her life that night."Why did you save me? I mean, I could have killed you straight after and what I don't get is how you knew I wouldn't." Another question that Mason had known was coming, he wasn't quite sure if he should share the truthful answer with her just yet. He was afraid that she wouldn't speak to him ever again afterwards. "You can't? What do you mean you can't?" She questioned, letting out a heavy breath.He flopped his head against her shoulder briefly before stepping back to put some distance between them. As much as it killed him, he couldn't risk hurting her again."I mean I can't, Harley. I'm sorry, but I can't risk your life. As much as I would like to kiss you right now, I can't let it happen." He sighed. "But…" "No! I already hurt you once tonight, I can't risk doing it a second time." Harley closed her eyes and hung her head in acceptance. Deep down she knew that he was right, but it still hurt just the same. Speaking to a vampire was risky, let alone dating one, and she hated to think about the consequences if her father ever found out. "Go." "Come on, there must be something I can do to make it right with you. Maybe I could-" He began to make a suggestion but stopped as she shook her head."Please, Mason… Don't make this any harder than it already is. Just go." She pleaded in a whisper.

Mason moved his hands to rest firmly on her hips, and closed his eyes as he leaned into the kiss. He shouldn't be doing this. He'd been fighting the temptation every time they were together. It was dangerous. She could die. He could be executed by Demitri. Both their worlds could collapse. But he couldn't bring himself to stop her this time, or to stop himself from kissing her back. Eventually, she pulled away as she ran out of air and looked up at him."We shouldn't do this." He whispered."You're right.
