Life of a Hunter
Unsheathing her sword from her back, Harley spun around just in time as another one of the evil abominations tried to launch an attack and swung her sword, slicing the vampire directly across its chest. It let out an ear piercing shriek as black blood spilled out through its open wound. Dodging another attempted attack, she swung her sword again, this time aiming for its throat. The vampire fell to its knees, giving her an advantage. Sheathing her sword, and retrieving the stake that she had dropped earlier in the fight, she slowly walked over to it. Looking into its stone cold eyes, she brought her knee up and struck it in the face, causing it to fall flat on its back. She knelt down beside him and swiftly jammed the stake in its chest. With one final shriek, the vampire wriggled before bursting into nothing but ashes. Adrenaline pumping through her body after the kill, she took off in the direction that she was headed in when the vampire had appeared. A long night of hunting had f

Face to Face With The Enemy
Fuelled with anger that her father had ignited, Harley roamed the city just waiting for the chance to unleash her fury on one of the abominations that roamed the earth. Though the problem was that the night seemed quiet. On a normal night, she would have made at least three kills within the first half an hour, but tonight she had been out much longer than that and still hadn't encountered any vampires. Something didn't feel right about it either, but she couldn't quite put her finger on what it was. The cold made her shiver as she moved slowly through the city. Most nights it wouldn't be a problem since she would be moving fast and fighting, which would warm her body up quickly. Feeling confused and even a little lost as there wasn't anything that needed to be done, she changed her route and headed towards the quieter, more isolated parts of the city. First she checked out any back alley she passed, then all the children's play parks and dog fields; still nothing. The only place

Confusion and Consequence
Still coming down from the fight, Harley nodded her head as she was too breathless to speak. If he had wanted to kill her, there was no doubt that she would be dead already. Unless he was playing mind games with her. In complete disbelief, all she could do was stand completely still and stare at the monster that had just saved her life. She could feel the heat rising in her cheeks as found him even more dazzling the longer she stared. Though what caught her attention the most was his eyes. The jewel blue twinkled against the night sky, holding a warmth that she had never seen before in a vampire's eyes. "I- I don't know. Can I?" She retorted. "That's not for me to decide." He informed her. Rolling her eyes, she was slowly beginning to regain herself and focus a little more on the conversation they were having and not his charming looks. Clearing her throat, she looked him up and down once more. "Well, how can I trust someone who I've not only just met, but who also hasn't formall

Crime and Punishment
Harley held the pendant firmly in her hand as she remained lost in her own thoughts. Mason used this silence to study her, the best he could. It was not easy since she seemed dead set on hiding away from him. He thought briefly about using mind control, but had decided against it as he wanted their conversation to be real and not forced. It wasn't everyday that he got this close to a human, and in a strange way it brought him some shred of peace."Do you want me to…" He began to ask, pointing towards the pendant to get his point across."Uh- Are you going to bite me?" She questioned, raising an eyebrow as she thought about giving him access to her throat."That depends, do you want me to bite you?" He retorted smugly, giving her a wink."I'm sure you have a charming bite, but I'm gonna have to give that a hard pass." As if to agree with her comment he pulled his top lip back in a playful snarl, giving her full view of his fangs before closing his mouth again. "Seriously though, woul

Storm of Truth
In the time that Harley had been out, the sky had turned a deep purple colour, a few claps of thunder had erupted from the clouds and it had begun to rain heavily. Brushing her wet hair out of her face, she squinted to see where she was heading. The torrential downpour had made it difficult to even keep her eyes open without them stinging from rain water. Despite the lack of roaming vampires due to their leader's plan, she knew that a good few wouldn't be able to resist coming out during a storm since it enhanced their thirst for a short period of time. After all, the more blood thirsty they were, the less control they had over themselves. She shivered as the rain soaked her clothes, causing them to stick to her skin. She carried on walking, though she couldn't see and her hands and feet were frozen. There was no doubt that she would end up with a cold considering she had to stay out until sunrise. Before she could take another step, she found herself almost flying through the air as

In the Heart of the Storm
It was now Harley's turn again to ask a question. She knew exactly what she wanted to ask this time. It was something that had been on her mind since Mason had saved her life that night."Why did you save me? I mean, I could have killed you straight after and what I don't get is how you knew I wouldn't." Another question that Mason had known was coming, he wasn't quite sure if he should share the truthful answer with her just yet. He was afraid that she wouldn't speak to him ever again afterwards. Though he wasn't sure if he could come up with a plausible excuse. "Oh, come on! That's too easy. I saved you because…" He began, trying to think. "Because I'm Spider-man!" He announced jokingly."Really? No, I don't think so, buddy. You're not spidey. Oh, and you're not funny. Now, come on, give it! The truth." She demanded, withholding a laugh at his stupid answer. He knew that she would be expecting a real answer following his joking moment, but it wasn't the right time to say it. Vampi

Risking it all for You
"You can't? What do you mean you can't?" She questioned, letting out a heavy breath. He flopped his head against her shoulder briefly before stepping back to put some distance between them. As much as it killed him, he couldn't risk hurting her again."I mean I can't, Harley. I'm sorry, but I can't risk your life. As much as I would like to kiss you right now, I can't let it happen." He sighed. "But…" "No! I already hurt you once tonight, I can't risk doing it a second time." Harley closed her eyes and hung her head in acceptance. Deep down she knew that he was right, but it still hurt just the same. Speaking to a vampire was risky, let alone dating one, and she hated to think about the consequences if her father ever found out. "Go." "Come on, there must be something I can do to make it right with you. Maybe I could-" He began to make a suggestion but stopped as she shook her head."Please, Mason… Don't make this any harder than it already is. Just go." She pleaded in a whisper.

I Love You, Goodbye
Mason moved his hands to rest firmly on her hips, and closed his eyes as he leaned into the kiss. He shouldn't be doing this. He'd been fighting the temptation every time they were together. It was dangerous. She could die. He could be executed by Demitri. Both their worlds could collapse. But he couldn't bring himself to stop her this time, or to stop himself from kissing her back. Eventually, she pulled away as she ran out of air and looked up at him."We shouldn't do this." He whispered."You're right. We shouldn't…" She agreed, waiting for the other shoe to drop."But I don't think that I can resist you anymore." "Anymore?" "I can't lie to you, Harley. Not after this. The truth is that I want you. I can't stop wanting you or even thinking about you. Since we first spoke, I've thought about you. I've denied myself because I'm concerned for what it will do to the world around us, but whatever comes will be something I know we both can deal with. It might sound crazy but at this po

Fighting for You
Quietly slipping into the den, trying not to draw attention to himself, Mason avoided the main cave and continued down the tunnel into a smaller cave. He sat down on a particularly large rock and sighed heavily. As a vampire he could have fallen in love with anyone; another vampire or even someone else from the Dark World, but instead he had fallen in love with a mortal. Not just any mortal either, but a hunter. It was the worst thing he could have done, and he would be lying to himself if he ever thought that there was a way to be with Harley and not put her in constant danger. Walking away from her had been painful. He felt hollow, empty inside and there wasn't a vampire in the entire coven that could change that. He thought about giving up; no longer drinking blood and just letting himself dessicate, but it would not be a smart move. Demitri would never allow him to slip away… Though perhaps if he knew that he'd been deceived then he wouldn't care. Shaking the thought away, he lif

Picking up the Pieces
Julian swallowed hard, the guilt already sinking into his heart as he took the last three steps into Demitri's office. He glanced behind him briefly, almost expecting Mason to appear, and shook off the silly notion before turning his attention to his leader. There was no going back once he spoke up, and all he could do afterwards was try and make it up to his best friend; if that was even possible.."Sire, I beg your pardon for my intrusion but I come bearing news." Demitri's head snapped up almost instantly and he could almost smell Julian's hesitation. His eyes became cold and he gave his soldier a hard stare, warning him to be completely honest. "Well, don't be shy. Do spit it out.""Of course. It's about Mason, Sire.""I was afraid of that." Demitri sighed. "Please, proceed." "Earlier tonight, I heard that he fell in love with a mortal and then killed her, is that correct?""Yes. That is correct. I couldn't very well have my best soldier frolicking around with the enemy now, co
