Chapter 430

Author: Tightrope
Ariel had no intention of giving Samson any room for misinterpretation. She spoke plainly, cutting straight to the point.

But Samson wasn't surprised. After spending time around her, he had gotten a sense of the kind of person Ariel was.

Still, he wasn't the type to quietly pine from the sidelines. And getting turned down didn't rattle him. Liking someone meant also respecting their choice, whether it led somewhere or not.

So…

Samson's eyes softened with a quiet smile. "I know. A confession doesn't guarantee an outcome. That's not how relationships work. If I can't show enough sincerity, why should you accept me?"

Ariel gave it some thought. "Mr. Pryce, I'm not testing you. I just genuinely have no interest in dating anyone right now."

Samson could tell that Ariel genuinely didn't want to waste his time. Even her rejection left no room for misunderstanding.

But that, in itself, was part of what made her so precious.

He didn't feel discouraged at all. Instead, he gave her a know

Ariel stayed calm, her eyes fixed on the sports car.She was almost certain now that they were being intercepted."This is bad," her local colleague said, frowning. "I recognize the guy standing in front. He's a well-known street boss around here, backed by an Isbell family."Ariel frowned. Their numbers were significant, and their intentions were unclear. And would someone driving such an expensive car do this for money? Probably not."We're armed, right?" Ariel checked the car doors. They were all locked. Her gut told her these people might be even more dangerous than the gunfire behind them."We do have guns, but if we go head-to-head with them, I don't think…"Ariel understood immediately that escaping was not going to be easy.Just then, someone got out of the sports car.He was a man in his 30s, with the typical features of a Veylander, yet still fairly handsome. His attire was strikingly luxurious, setting him apart from everyone else.Ariel's colleague's eyes went wi

"Why?" Jayson asked. The guard replied, "I'm afraid I have to tell you that things over there are in complete chaos right now, with organized acts of terror. On top of that, it's a war zone."Jayson's eyes narrowed instantly, his brow furrowing. "Is it very bad?""Yes, Mr. Larkin. It's dangerous. I strongly advise against moving forward."The guard checked their position. "We're less than two miles away, and the area is being sealed off."At that moment, Jayson heard distant explosions that rattled his eardrums.Sealed off? That meant they could be trapped. His chest tightened and his expression darkened. "Hold on."He tried calling Ariel again, but there was still no answer. The unknown was too dangerous for him to take even a small risk.If Ariel was still there, she would be in serious danger and might even…Jayson pressed his lips together. Without wasting a second, he started contacting the embassy. He needed someone to intervene and ensure Ariel's safety. The embassy

The deafening noise all around made Ariel's heart pound. She watched as a cloud of dust rolled closer and closer in the distance. Danger was almost right in front of them. She knew everyone was scrambling to evacuate with the equipment. Her face tightened. "Okay, pack it up now. The equipment can't be damaged."She bent down and snatched her phone off the ground. Its screen had cracked from the fall, but it was still usable.Moving with the retreating crowd, she quickly dialed Jayson's number. The situation here was too dangerous. She had to stop him from coming here. But…"Sorry, the number you have dialed is not available…"The robotic female voice sent a sharp pain through her chest. An indescribable sense of unease swept over.By the time she reached the vehicle, she stopped and tried again, but the call still couldn't go through.Ariel took a deep breath, entered the car, and immediately called Janice instead.Janice wasn't with her, and she had no idea what was happenin

Ariel thought about it. "You're coming? No need to go through all that trouble. We could just meet in Nacsall. This place isn't safe. Coming alone without protection isn't a good idea."Most dangers were obvious on the surface."No worries, I can handle it. I'll coordinate protection on that side." Jayson knew what Ariel was concerned about, but it was just a minor matter. He actually missed Ariel, even though she had just left.Perhaps because their relationship had only just taken a step forward, he still felt a hint of uncertainty.Noticing his insistence, Ariel considered the timing and judged it wouldn't be too problematic.Besides, she could take time off from work here, which made her look forward even more to the upcoming trip to Nacsall. She felt energized all over."Alright," she replied, then returned her focus to the laptop.Jayson didn't hang up. He just watched her focus silently. Even when they said nothing, his heart felt full.He caught every small expression—

Janice sat cross-legged in her chair, eyes flicking toward Ariel as she slurped her steaming instant noodles.Sliding into her slippers, she stood up. "Alright, alright, I get it. You two have things to talk about. I won't be a third wheel. I'll give you some space."She opened the door and headed straight to the balcony to continue her feast.Ariel gave her an amused glance. She placed her phone beside her laptop so it wouldn't interrupt her work and answered the call.Jayson's face appeared on the screen.Ariel glanced at him briefly while flipping through her files. "Why are you still awake? It should be 1:00 am in Croinia, right?"Jayson seemed to be in his study. He casually rested his phone on the desk. "I just need to make sure you arrived safely. Are you even human, Ms. Walker? Can't you even send me a text?"Ariel felt a little guilty. She had intended to wait until morning to notify him, thinking it was too late and she might disturb him.Besides, she had been used t

Wade saw it this time. Frowning, he stepped forward and took her hand. "Why so careless?"Though his tone was mildly reproachful, his movements were quick. He pulled out disinfectant and a bandage from his bag and carefully cleaned the small cut on Janice's arm. His brow remained tightly furrowed.Janice looked at his expression and suddenly felt a pang of sadness. She bit her lip and asked, "Wade, if Alicia weren't your sister, would you still want to marry me?"Wade paused, his expression cooling slightly. "What are you thinking? I don't want to explain this repeatedly. Hypothetical situations aren't worth overthinking."He finished applying the bandage and let go of her hand. His displeasure was clear, though the reason was something Janice couldn't guess. She understood that Wade was essentially telling her not to make a fuss over nothing.Looking down at the bandage on her hand, Janice nodded quietly. "I'll let you get back to your work."She quickly walked away. When she
