Chapter 47

Author: Tightrope
Ariel hurried into a fine dining restaurant, where reservations were required every day.

The moment she entered, she saw a furious Janice and a disheveled Lori sitting across from each other.

"What's going on?" Ariel's expression immediately turned cold. She approached to see if Janice was hurt and noticed the red marks on Janice's neck.

Lori spoke first, "You're truly cut from the same cloth! Both unreasonable shrews!"

Janice stood up. "You think you're in the right?"

Through gritted teeth, she said, "If I hadn't come here for lunch, I wouldn't have known that your father brought his illegitimate daughter to meet Jayson! She's trying to turn him from a brother-in-law into a lover! How shameless!"

Janice had overheard their conversation in the private room when she arrived.

Morgan had introduced Lori to Jayson, wanting her to "learn" from him. What could she possibly learn? How to please a man?

Lori knew Janice had no filter, and hearing her shout like that was a bit embarrassi

Ariel didn't even have time to react. While applying pressure on her lower abdomen, she looked up in shock.Blood was already smeared at the corner of Perry's mouth. His face darkened with fury.Across from him, Lucas' usually roguish gaze had turned cold and sharp. Without a word, he stormed forward and grabbed Perry by the collar."What the hell are you doing with her? Don't you know who she is? You sure have a bad taste in women!"Perry had never taken that kind of disrespect from anyone. He immediately threw a punch in return. "Show some respect for me and Ms. Walker!"Lucas ran his tongue over the corner of his mouth and let out a cold laugh before lunging forward again.Respect? After what he just saw? Perry's ears were burning red!Just as it looked like the two men were about to come to blows, Ariel stepped in with a pale face. "Lucas! What the hell is wrong with you?"Lucas froze mid-motion and glanced back at her. He gave a cold, mocking laugh. "Did you want this?"H

  • Dead at Heart   Chapter 132

Ariel walked to the hospital's entrance and sat down on the stone steps to rest. The expert Ewan had mentioned had no set date for his return. And if he really was a renowned expert, getting an appointment with him would be a battle. If she could find some way to contact him directly, maybe she could buy Leonard more time."Ms. Walker?"Ariel looked up at the voice. When Perry walked over, he took a quick look at Ariel and noticed her face still looked pale and worn. It reminded him of the last time he had brought her to the hospital."You're not feeling well again?" he asked.Ariel seemed momentarily distracted, then shook her head. "No."Perhaps realizing that her reply sounded too curt, she asked, "What are you here for?"Perry held up a pharmacy bag. "I come by regularly to pick up Freya's inhaler."That made sense. Ariel recalled that Freya suffered from asthma—her health had never been great. Perry, at least, was a good brother. He was always meticulous when it came to

Zach had watched the whole thing unfold—from when Ariel opened Jayson's car door to when Nancy, the actual girlfriend, showed up.He couldn't help but shake his head with a chuckle. Why did he always end up catching these entertaining little dramas? No wonder Ariel had given Jayson that look earlier. It turned out she had another idea brewing. And now, just as she tried to get in his car, the actual girlfriend came and put her back in her place."What's so funny?" a low male voice asked from the phone.Zach flicked the ash from his cigarette. "Just saw a juicy little scene unfold. I'm telling you, too much romantic luck can be a pain. Some women really have no end of tricks when they're trying to get a man's attention."The voice on the other end was calm and cutting. "Since when did you get so gossipy?"Zach choked. "Only you would say that to me. I'm just enjoying the show."He stubbed out the cigarette and changed the subject. "Liam, when are you coming back? Are you going to

Ariel tilted her head slightly, calmly meeting Nancy's gaze.Nancy stood tall in her heels, chin lifted slightly just to look down at Ariel. Despite her elegant posture, the haughty gaze in Nancy's eyes was unmistakable.Even when she knew about Ariel's relationship with Jayson, she'd never addressed her anything but "Ms. Walker".As for Nancy's earlier comment—was she merely claiming the seat beside Jayson, or was she making a statement that the seat of Mrs. Larkin was now hers? But regardless of what she meant, it was still arrogance at its core.Ariel didn't particularly care what Nancy was trying to imply, but that didn't mean she had the patience to endure Nancy's silent jabs."There's no need to rush, Ms. Stanton. I'm not interested in competing with you," she replied coolly, making her stance clear.Nancy didn't like the terms—"rush" and "compete"—that Ariel had used. She'd never once felt threatened by Ariel. Moreover, if Ariel wanted to compete, she'd first need to pro

Chad's gaze shifted to Ariel as soon as Jayson arrived. He couldn't help but smile seeing her completely unfazed while focused on recording data. He'd known that she was a strong-willed woman all along. Once she made up her mind about something, she'd pull herself out of it without hesitation.Ariel had always been good at keeping her emotions in check.Chad couldn't help but observe Jayson. The moment he walked in, he would've known that Ariel was here. However, his gaze brushed past her without a second thought. To anyone watching, regardless if they knew of Jayson and Ariel's history, it would seem like the two of them didn't know each other. The way he'd made her seem like a stranger so effortlessly cut deeper than words ever could."Has he ever brought you a hot drink?" Chad huffed before turning to look at Ariel. "Mr. Larkin is quite the thoughtful man, isn't he?"She continued scribbling in her notebook and replied without so much a glance up. "No," she replied truthfull

Meanwhile, the others didn't miss out on Ariel's smile.Frederick frowned. "I can't believe she's still smiling now. It seems like our advice fell on deaf ears!"Nancy stayed silent, although she was equally dissatisfied."She's just a housewife who doesn't understand tech—trying to reason with her is just wasting your breath. Don't let someone like her ruin your mood, Ms. Stanton," Frederick comforted her.The contrast only made it clearer to him just how rare someone like Nancy was. She was highly professional, respectful, and someone who truly valued the work of others. It took a real talent to understand another—he figured she must've felt a kind of kinship with the developer behind U.N2.Zach glanced toward Ariel before shifting his gaze toward Nancy, who looked graceful and composed. He finally understood how she'd managed to win over Jayson—it was through her charming charisma. No wonder he'd brushed off Ariel's attempt to flirt with him at the art gallery that day.Howe
