Chapter 4

Author: Anonymous
Returning home, Christine patiently put Henry to rest before returning to her room with a darkened gaze.

She called Nate and said, "Where the hell is Jason? Get him to come to the phone."

"Are you nuts? I told you he's dead! He's dead!" Nate bellowed into the phone.

Christine sneered. "Ask Jason about what the hell he wants and get him to come back! Stop with this absurd excuse! I'm going to divorce him! Get him to come home right away!"

Christine hung up and threw her phone against the wall, but it still did not relieve her of her anger.

The pet she could always order around for ten years was suddenly no longer in her control. How could she come to terms with it?

As she breathed heavily, she swept the only photo of us by the nightstand to the floor. Her face was red with fury.

I was oddly calm looking at the cracked frame.

Suddenly, a knock came on the door. Henry said feebly, "Christine, my chest feels a little tight. I don't feel too good…"

Christine took a deep breath and quickly went over to open the door. She was taken aback to see the sight before her.

Henry was topless with a towel wrapped around his waist.

I clenched my fists tightly and relaxed them. My eyes reddened with fury.

"Christine, my chest started to hurt halfway through my shower. I wanted you to be with me."

I was nauseous with disgust seeing a full-grown man trying to gain pity.

Christine blushed, but she moved aside to let him into her room. The moment Henry entered the room, he eagerly hugged her and whispered seductively in her ear, "Christine, you should get a divorce. I don't want to see you suffering anymore. You deserve a much better man. I have thought about you every single day all these years…"

Christine blinked. "But…"

Henry cupped her face and looked deeply into her eyes. "Christine, don't you love me?"

I waited with bated breath, staring at Christine. I did not know what I was hoping for.

"I do."

At that moment, my heart broke into a million pieces.

"I love you too. We've missed out on so many years. I don't want to waste any more time, Christine."

Christine pursed her lips. Her eyes gleamed with determination. "You're right, Henry. I've called Jason to come back for our divorce. Once everything is settled, we'll be together."

They hugged tightly. I clenched my fists so hard as my body trembled uncontrollably.

Henry was her first love. Everyone in the industry knew about their love story.

The pauper fell in love with the wealthy heiress, and they eloped.

Christine's father, Richard, caught them halfway through the journey. He then sent Henry to prison on account of kidnapping a young woman.

From that point onward, a rift formed between Christine and Richard. Christine clung to the belief that Henry was innocent and that she was the one who destroyed his future and sent him to prison.

The truth, however, was quite the opposite. Henry had secured a buyer. He had planned to kidnap Christine and extort a ransom from Richard before selling her off to the buyer.

However, the plans were foiled as the news leaked. The buyer had fled.

That night, Christine drunkenly clutched onto me, mistaking me for Henry. From then on, all she had for me was hatred and revulsion.

When Richard died from a car crash, in his final moments, he held my hand and repeatedly told me to look after her.

Since Richard was dead, Henry, fresh out of prison, had once again turned his sights on Christine.

I tried to push Henry away from pinning Christine on the bed.

That monster! Scumbag!

However, nothing worked. My hands just went through Henry's body.

"Christine, wake up! That monster is just after your money! Don't fall for it!" I yelled. However, everything seemed rather comical.

Christine wrapped her arms around his neck, pulling him closer.

I shut my eyes in utter disappointment.

Surprisingly, the thing that I expected to happen did not occur. Christine placed her hand on Henry's chest and pushed him away. She said, "Henry, you've not fully recovered. Besides, I'm not divorced yet."

Henry's gaze dimmed. "I'm sorry, Christine. I couldn't control myself."

Christine collected herself and said, "Get some rest. If Jason doesn't return tomorrow, we'll go and look for him."

I smiled bitterly. There was no chance in hell for her anymore.

I was suddenly curious. I wondered what her reaction would be when she saw my ashes.

"Henry, why wouldn't you just give up on me? You have ruined my entire life! You killed my husband!" Christine roared. At the same time, she drove the knife into his chest."Why did you do this to me? It was all your fault! You caused all this! You killed Jason! You'll pay with your life!"Christine maniacally stabbed him over and over again. Her hair was in a complete mess, and she looked every bit murderous. She finally stopped in exhaustion. Henry was covered in blood, and he had stopped breathing.Catching her breath, she slowly stood up and left the room without looking at Henry once. She returned to her room and picked up my urn, rubbing her cheeks against it."Jason, I've avenged you. Are you happy?"She received no response. She seemed to have lost her mind. She turned to the urn with reddened eyes and said, "I know, you must still be mad at me. You hate me, right? I'll come and be with you right away. We'll spend eternity together. I love only you!"Then, she shook h

I watched the scene unfold with a cold gaze.My heart had been broken into a million pieces, so I felt nothing at that moment.Christine wiped the tears off her face and got up, stumbling. She instantly resumed her usual icy and arrogant self. She got the men to take the unconscious Henry back to her mansion. Then, she followed Nate back home.Back at Nate's place, Nate could not hold it back anymore. "Why the hell are you following me? Jason is gone! I no longer want to see you!"Christine lowered her gaze. Trembling and with humility, she said, "It's all my fault, but I want Jason's ashes."Nate bawled in laughter as if he had just heard a great joke. "Who the hell do you think you are? You're his murderer! You have no right to ask for his ashes!"Christine's face paled."Get lost!" Nate was about to shut the door when the usually arrogant Christine bent her knees and fell to the ground, kneeling. Tears streamed down her face. She pleaded with him, saying, "I beg you. Please

Surprisingly, the knife did not land.It just dropped to the floor. The man chuckled and said, "You can come out now. The act's done."Everyone was stunned as another man slowly walked out from behind.Nate."Christine, this is the man you've chosen over Jason?" Nate kicked Henry to the ground as he walked over to Christine with a mocking sneer.I held my breath. I was moved but sad. With gritted teeth, she said, "Nate, you psycho! You set this up? What the hell are you doing?""What am I doing?" Nate laughed with a guttural sound. His eyes were bloodshot. All these years, Christine had never once accompanied me to the hospital. Even in the final liver transplant surgery, she got her assistant to come and sign the agreement on her behalf. The countless times I was battling cancer to the brink of death, she was either out drinking with friends or spending time with Henry.I was never once in her consideration.Even at the surgery table, I had begged for her to come and see me, but she thought it was just a waste of time.We were 500 meters apart; it sure was a waste of time.Just like she said: I owed her family my life. I had finally repaid them all.'Mr. Leigh, I've done my best.'Suddenly, Christine thought of something. She picked her phone up with trembling hands and went through her call log as if she were trying to find something.Henry entered with a cup of tea. "Christine, here, have some tea. Christine could barely wait. The next day, she immediately took Henry to Nate's place. When Nate saw her, he stopped her at the door."What the hell are you two doing here?""Is Jason hiding in your place?"Christine angrily barged in. Nate did not stop her. When Christine saw my funeral portrait and urn in the middle of the living room, she was suddenly stunned. With suppressed anger, Nate said, "See? He's dead. Dead."The next second, Christine maniacally swept everything, including my funeral portrait and urn, to the ground.Seeing my ashes scattered all over the floor, Nate went over and grabbed her by her hair. With reddened eyes, he forced her to kneel in front of my ashes and yelled, "Sweep those ashes up right now! Do it!"Christine, suddenly finding her strength, shrugged Nate off.
