Elvira’s POV

My feet hurt; the heels I wore made my toes bleed. I was pregnant, yet I was made to wear this tight gown. A gown I could barely breathe in.

They said my so-called husband and I were supposed to welcome the guest, but I was the only one standing by the entrance, welcoming the guest like a butler.

My mind was on how my daughter was doing and how she ate nuts. I excused myself from the entrance, I needed to check my daughter’s room to figure out who gave her the cupcakes.

“Have you lost it?” I stopped right in front of the studies when I heard Casper yell at someone.

I wanted to ignore it but I saw Karisa inside the room as the door was slightly open. I scoffed with disgust. Now, they aren’t even hiding.

“I did it for us!” Karisa yelled back and I couldn’t help but be curious.

“Did I ask you to kill my child! You freaking knew she was allergic to nuts and you purposely fed them to her!” Casper yelled, “Now she is lying in the hospital.”

My ear rang. I must be hearing things, not Karisa, that’s impossible.

That was the last person I had suspected. I had suspected my in-laws, never did I think the person who loves Akira the most tried to kill her.

I was beyond numb, and my chest tightened so that I could barely breathe.

Casper sighed as he hugged her, “I promised you that the moment she gives birth, I will push her out of this house, I don’t want my kids getting hurt.”

“I don’t just want her out, I want her dead,” Karisa said and at that point, I didn’t know how to feel.

I haven’t even had the moment to process everything I had witnessed today. Everything was still a blur.

“I will call the truck driver and get it done,” My jaw dropped as I watched my husband reassure her.

I wanted to leave quietly but I accidentally pushed the door wide open. We stared at each other for a brief second. Tears and anger in my eyes as those two were holding each other in their arms.

“It’s not what you think,” Casper immediately let go of Karisa, “I was just consoling her.”

Anger surged through my veins, I didn’t know when I stepped inside the room and slapped Karisa across the face.

“Have you gone mad!!” I yelled and they both stood in shock.

Karisa’s eyes filled with tears as she said, “Why… It’s not what you think.”

I could finally see right through her dirty pretense.

“It’s not what I think?” I tightened my fist, “You watch Akira grow and you fed her what she was allergic to! How could you?!”

Karisa wiped the tears off her eyes as she glared at me with a straight face, “How much did you hear?”

“What?”

“If you know too much then how can I let you leave this room alive?” Karisa said as she pushed me against the wall, and my head hit the shelf, making all the books fall on me, “Nobody would investigate how you died.”

Seeing my sister, whom I had known all my life act this way scared me, and seeing my husband watch this and do nothing was even scarier.

A rush of dizziness hit me as I stood up, “I’m not going to play this game with you.”

Karisa grabbed me by the hair as I tried to escape from the room, and without hesitation, I dragged her hair, hoping she would free me.

“Let her go,” Casper said as he forcefully pushed me away.

The push was so hard that my tummy hit the edge of the table in the study. I felt a sharp pain shoot through my back and my stomach.

He picked me up and slammed me against the wall, his expression hardened, something about him shifted, as something snapped, “Have you gone mad! Do you want to harm my woman and our baby?”

My woman? Our baby? What more could I hear at this moment?

I was already torn, so this only tore me more, “I will definitely kill you today,” he said as he wrapped his hand around my neck. He looked me deep in the eyes and tightened his grip.

I couldn’t breathe, I was struggling to stay alive, I scratched his hand, but he was stronger than me, and I had already lost a lot of strength.

I felt liquid roll down my thighs and I immediately knew what was wrong. Somehow I managed to raise my hand and poked his eyes.

He immediately let go of me and screamed in pain. My body ached, my vision was blurry, and I was weak but I managed to stand up and run out of the room.

Karisa held my hand by the stairs, and I was too weak to struggle with her; the only thing I could do was plead, “Please…. I want to save my baby.”

“I can’t let you do that. If I do, everyone downstairs will know my truth, and you know I would be a fool to make such a mistake.” The excitement in her voice could be compared to that of a child who is given the ice cream he always wanted.

Seeing how she wasn’t willing to listen, I forcefully pushed her, I accidentally missed my step and rolled down the stairs.

I twisted in pain while Karisa watched me from up the stairs. Despite my body being in pain, I managed to get up and run out of the house through the back door.

“Where have you……” I didn’t bother to listen to my brother, I snatched the car key from his hand and ran straight to the parking lot in pain.

I pressed the key till I found the car. I entered the car and drove out of the compound. I was restless, I was uncomfortable, I was barely conscious, and I needed to call someone, but there was no one to call.

All my life, I have been isolated. I have only gone by the rules. The people who were my support system wanted to end me, and there was nothing I could do.

I screamed both in pain and frustration as I gripped the steering wheel and stepped on the gas pedal. While driving my phone rang, just as I was about to pick it up, it fell to the ground.

I struggled to pick it up, panic ran through my chest as I saw the call was from Akira’s hospital, just as I was about to pick up the call, a bright light flashed from the side, and before I could understand what was going on, a big truck on high speed hit my car and sent my car tumbling down the road.

My world was turned upside down because my car was upside down. Blood was rolling down my head, I could smell petrol and I could hear it dropping on the floor.

I weakly tried to push the door open but it was stuck. From my blurry vision, I could see the truck driver standing close to the car with a cigarette in his hand and a phone to his ear.

I lightly hit the window, “Please …..save …..me,” My voice was barely audible as darkness slowly covered my world.

Elvira’s POV The first thing I saw when I opened my eyes was a bright white light above me. I blinked several times but everything was still blurry. I could hear the sound of a machine beeping near me and multiple other noises. I tried to move but my body was heavy. Where was I? The last thing I remembered was lying by the riverside. I slowly turned my head and through my blurred vision, I could see a woman sitting on the chair next to the bed and resting her head on the bed. I managed to use my finger to brush against her skin, “Ciera….” I called, I didn’t even know if she heard me through the oxygen mask. “Elvira….” I guess she did hear me, “You have woken up….. let me get the doctor,” She said with excitement before she rushed out of the ward. In a flash, doctors surrounded me and did some checkups. He took Ciera out of the room for a few minutes then she came back alone. I tried to move but was met with a sharp pain, I bit my lip to endure the pain. “You shouldn’t

Calix’s POV I clenched my fist tightly, I could feel my fingers digging into my palm. Chloe’s question got to me, it shook a nerve but I have learnt to keep my emotions in check. “Chloe,” I called calmly, “That’s enough.” “Why? Are you scared to show her that you are a monster who only uses people for their selfish gain?” A smug smile made its way to Chloe’s face, “Shouldn’t we tell her the truth?” I nodded my head, “Mrs Chloe, it appears you do not have my wife’s number, do you want her number?” Chloe's smug smile dropped, and I was more than satisfied to see the confused look on her face. “What?” She furrowed her eyebrows, “Why would I need Elvira’s number? I shrugged, “You clearly have a lot to say to her, instead of saying it to me, you can directly say it to her.” “How can I forget who raised you,” Chloe spat furiously. “She is at the hospital, when she regains consciousness then I will let you tell her everything,” I unclenched my fist, “Remember don’t disturb th

Calix’s POV Chloe’s words hit harder than expected. I have never been affected by her words but today was different. After everything that has happened with Elvira, Chloe was the last person I wanted to hear my wife's and my mother’s name from. “Chloe Jordan!!!” I yelled her name at the top of my lungs, “Don’t you dare mention those names with your filthy mouth!” “Why?” Chloe questioned with a smug expression on her face, “Does the truth hurt?” I didn’t want to open my wounds but since this madwoman wants to go back in the past then I should remind her too. “Truth? Which truth are we talking about?” I questioned, “Mrs Chloe, I think you are mistaken, you are the cursed one and not me.” I clenched my fist, “My Mother died because of you!! She died the day you decided to snatch everything from her, you couldn’t even spare her, you couldn’t even spare your blood sister!” “Elenor was never my sister!!” Chloe yelled in my face. “You may never claim her as your sister but she

Calix’s POV “Calix…. Calix.” I opened my eyes to the sound of Ace’s voice. I lifted myself from the floor and sat up. I didn’t even know how long I had been in here and I didn’t even know how I slept off. “Elvira?” That was the first name that came to mind as I saw him kneeling beside me. Ace nodded his head, “Her surgery was successful.” A wave of relief washed through me as I glanced up. He really did answer people like me, “How…. How is she now?” “She is unconscious for now, though her surgery was successful, we have to wait for her to wake up,” Ace explained, “She is in ICU.” “Does your family have ties to this hospital?” That was the first thing that came to my mind. Ace stared at me as if trying to understand me, “Yes, they know a few doctors, any issue?” “No,” I gave a subtle smile as I stood up from the floor. I couldn’t trust any of them around my Elvira. Someone from this family wanted to kill her and I know that person wouldn’t stop until they succeeded.

Calix’s POV The color drained from Ace’s face. He dropped the medical bag he was carrying as he said, “What nonsense are you spewing?” Ace gently took Elvira from my hands and laid her in a straight position. I hoped in my heart that she would be okay as Ace attentively checked for her pulse. I knew I was wrong, I wasn’t a doctor so there was no way I could get a correct pulse. Oh please let Ace say I was wrong. Ace turned to me with a relieved look, “There is a pulse but it’s very weak,” Ace notified me and immediately began performing CPR. A wave of relief washed over me. For a minute I thought the worst had happened. “Your radio,” Ace said and I immediately held my walkie-talkie to his mouth, “We need to evacuate her immediately. She had lost so much blood.” “We are working on that.” “How… How far is the nearest hospital?” I managed to ask. “Approximately sixteen minutes by air.” “Would that be enough time to save my wife?” I asked Ace in desperation and he nod

Calix’s POV I should have listened to my gut and shouldn’t have let Elvira go into the hunting field. I should have insisted and now all I can hear are the sounds of guns. I really hope my wife is safe and sound. “Calix is right, that isn’t the sound of the rifles,” Mr Halethor said, “Elvira is in danger.” “How do you know that?” Casper questioned. “My Grandfather was once a minister in the military so I can tell certain gun types based on the shot,” I didn’t have time to explain so I just threw in something short and at the same time I was trying to figure out where the sound came from. “Oh my baby,” Grandma started crying. I couldn’t wait any longer. Every second was crucial for my wife, just as I took another step I heard another gunshot and this time my blood ran dry. “Bring a search team!” I said and ran into the hunting ground without waiting for anybody. Mr Halethor said there was a path to find my way back, but there was nothing. Did he lie to me or did
