“Connor.” I hissed, more surprised to see him there than nervous, though poor Henry clearly didn’t share that sentiment “What…” Realizing that Henry was so pale he looked like he was about to faint at any second, I stepped between the two of them, approaching Connor before he could do the same “What are you doing here?”

“I… I got home and Theodore told me you had left suddenly, so I thought…” Connor swallowed hard, his expression a mix of disturbance and shock. “After everything that happened, I thought you might have…” he said through gritted teeth “I just wanted to check…”

“Check if I hadn’t shied away from my duty?” I rolled my eyes “Honestly, Connor.”

“No, I don’t…” he grunted, running his fingers through his hair for a moment “Forget it, it doesn’t matter anymore. All that matters is that I came here looking for you and…” he lifted his eyes to Henry’s “I think I ended up finding out a lot more than I expected.”

"I… I really didn't mean to intrude on your family, I swear." Henry s

  • Dear Ex-Husband, I'm Only Here to Save Your Son   Chapter 60 - Eden

It wasn't easy convincing Henry to accompany us to Michael's. Not that I could blame him. I, more than anyone, knew how much of a father-in-law that man could be, and after Henry's experience with him, it was obvious he'd want to stay away. He had a very well-structured life, after all, even after Alexander's death.Being in his apartment was a bittersweet feeling. I could tell he'd kept everything exactly as Alexander had, even after five years. The furniture was all solid wood, vintage, antique, and even had some signs of wear that had likely come from previous owners. But I could see the love he and Alex had put into every detail of the decor. Unlike Mycroft Manor, this was truly home. Perhaps the only place in the world where Alexander could feel like himself. And, knowing we could never be in that place with him had almost made me cry right then and there. If I was feeling that way, I couldn't even begin to imagine what was going on inside Connor. His expression was contorted wit

As I watched Henry work, sorting the blood samples that had been taken from the children admitted that day, I couldn't help but feel a little guilty. He seemed so kind, so innocent, doing his duty, while I stood here, consumed with thoughts and suspicions when he had done nothing more than show me a ring. But if I didn't question it now, perhaps the doubt would consume me alive.“Oh, Dr. Weston,” he said, making me chew my lip nervously at being caught eavesdropping. “Hello. I think for once, I wasn’t the one who walked into a room where you were working, wasn’t I?” Henry laughed, and finally, I walked into the lab anteroom, forcing myself to sound casual.“I’m sorry, Henry. I didn’t mean to disturb you, I’m just passing through.”“Don’t worry, you could never get in the way. And I’m almost done here, anyway.” He shook his head, continuing to label the samples. “Do you need anything? Are you looking for any of Theodore’s test results?”“Uh… Actually, I’m just here to talk to you,” I f

“You promised me you wouldn’t leave anymore!” Theo’s voice complained from the other end of the line, not only angry, but also shaky as if he was about to start crying."And I didn't leave, dear." I chuckled softly "I got an urgent call and had to come to the hospital, but that doesn't mean I'm gone forever. I'll be back in half an hour, tops. I just didn't talk to you before I left because you hadn't finished your nap yet." I lied, since he was still in the shower when I snuck out of the mansion before he could realize I was leaving and grab onto me to try to stop me.“Why do you keep taking care of other children? I’m your patient! Only me!” he whined, hurt."It's urgent, but it has nothing to do with other children, I promise. In fact…" I stared down the hospital hallway to see Isla approaching "I have to go now, but I promise I'll be home soon. Be a good boy and obey Mae in the meantime, okay? And don't forget to take your medicine."“Will you put my stars in the frame?” he asked,

“Connor!” Even though my hands were shaking, my first impulse was to reach out and grab Connor’s arm as tightly as I could, thankfully preventing him from moving away from me the moment his feet moved “Wait!”“If… If that’s true…!” His teeth ground together and his eyes were only focused on his brother’s letter “If that old bastard had the nerve to spend all these years mourning my dead mother like a victim while he was having an affair, I’ll kill him…”“Just… Just try to take a deep breath.” I pleaded “You can’t do anything rash…”“How can you say something like that?!” he growled, finally turning his eyes to me “Didn’t you read what Alexander wrote?! He found out about what Michael did and he might not even live long enough to tell me in person! And that son of a bitch was sneaky enough to read those letters and hide it from me! I should kick him out of the house I put him in right now and…”“Wait, please…” On impulse, I grabbed his face, bringing him closer to me before I realized

  • Dear Ex-Husband, I'm Only Here to Save Your Son   Chapter 55 - Eden

I was exhausted, as if I'd lived an entire week in just that one day. But then again, feeling completely drained had become a normal thing since I'd come to live with the Mycrofts.Theo had made an extra effort that night to stay awake. He seemed to have finally convinced himself that his grandfather wouldn't have thrown me out into the street when he woke up again, but that didn't stop Theo from holding me close while I read him a bedtime story. It was almost as if he thought he needed to guard me. Which would have been adorable, if Mae hadn't created a little monster when she suggested the only way I could stay in that house would be to marry his father.Well, remarrying, but Theodore didn't need to know that part. He'd spent the whole day twisting every subject to try to probe what I liked and disliked about his father. I even tried to have a serious talk with him about it, but I don't think Theo had grasped much beyond the fact that I didn't want to marry Connor… Yet. And, knowin
