MARISSA'S POV.

Kade's dick had grown limp inside me. My head was on his bare chest, and his right hand was wrapped around my back. He hadn't said a word to me since the ground shaking orgasm he gave me, and I was equally at a loss for words.

One thing kept going through my head— I had cheated on my husband with his best friend. But that was the least of my worries at the moment, because Kade's silence almost felt as if he regretted it. I loved every minute of it, and it was heartbreaking to think that he didn't.

The rain had slowly stopped, but hours had gone by, and it was already so late at night. Lucas had to be on his way home already, probably getting ready to lie to my face again.

“It's late.” I pointed out, desperate to break the awkward silence between us. His arm moved subtly along my back, followed by deep grunts that made me bite my lip.

“I should take you home.” He said it like he was unsure, right before planting a kiss on my forehead.

“Yeah.” I rolled off his body, his dick sliding out of me with a wet sound before I landed in the passenger seat. I didn't cover up immediately, I just sighed, staring at the stars in the sky.

“This shouldn't have happened.” I had no idea if he regretted what happened, but I decided that I wasn't going to let him break it to me first.

“You didn't seem to think that when you screamed my name and came all over my cock.” He leaned in, a smug grin tugging on his lips. My body stiffened, my thighs clenching violently as he grabbed them.

“But… it's wrong.” I whispered.

“Dress up, Rissa.” He pulled away, grabbing hold of the steering wheel with that cold demeanor of his suddenly returning.

“I'm gonna take you home, but you have to do something about Lucas as soon as possible, because I'm not letting you go.” He pulled his pants up and started the engine, like whatever he had just said was the most casual thing in the world.

My jaw hung open, and I could barely get any words out. There was no way he just said that to me. This was a man whose wife had been having an affair for years now. He shouldn't be saying those things to me, he should be hurt, he should be angry.

“So you're gonna let Lucas off the hook?” I asked, pulling my dress down and folding my underwear into my purse because I couldn't care less about putting it on.

His eyes flickered to me for a second, then he started the engine and focused on the road. “Who said he was off the hook?” He scoffed.

“I'll have someone pick up your car.” He added, and continued driving.

I couldn't help but wonder what he meant. Had he planned some sort of revenge? What was he going to do to Lucas? I shouldn't care, Lucas deserved whatever was coming to him, and I deserved some happiness, even if that happiness had to come from his best friend.

Kade dropped me off at home with a promise to come back for me. I didn't try to understand what he meant, I was far too tired from everything that had happened that day to think.

I dragged myself into the house, my chest twisting in pain when I remembered all the moments I spent in that house just loving Lucas. How could I have never seen the signs? Was he that good at hiding his double life? Or was I that stupid in love with him to notice that he was lying through his teeth?

I shook off the thought and made my way into the kitchen because I was famished. Before I could get there, Susan rolled over to me in her wheelchair, a scowl on her face. She would be breathing fire at that moment if it were possible.

“Are you gonna tell me where you were all day? Or who that man was! The one who just dropped you off.” The hatred in her voice was palpable, but nothing compared to the anger coursing through my veins. I was sure as hell that she knew about her son's infidelity.

“No, Susan, I do not intend to tell you anything. Just stay out of my way.” I tried to walk past her, but she extended her arm to block my path, shooting daggers at me with her eyes.

“You’ve suddenly grown wings?” She asked, and I shook my head, pushing my way past her and heading into the kitchen. What did they even need me here for if they both didn't like me?

“Just wait, Marissa! I'll let my son know that you sleep around now! And you'll be out on the streets since you want to be a fucking slut!” Susan yelled behind me but I didn't turn once.

I also couldn't wait for Lucas to return, I was curious to find out what his excuses were going to be this time.

…..

I sat in front of the mirror, in my pink pajamas, brushing my hair slower than I ever had. My eyes, swollen and red, stared at my reflection, and the only thing I felt was excruciating hurt.

A shadow of a smile played across my lips as I thought about Kade and what happened in his car. I had never noticed Kade before now, but today changed everything, and I found myself wanting him in more ways than one.

The excuse of a smile on my face disappeared when I heard Lucas's car pulling into the driveway. My heart skipped, but I remained put, brushing my hair slowly.

I heard his footsteps approaching the door before he actually opened it. I saw him from the mirror, the crease on his forehead, the sweat trickling down his face, right before his expression softened.

I smelled peaches again, and my jaw clenched.

“Baby.” He called.

The nerve of him to call me that after fucking another woman on his office desk.

“Where were you all day? My mother was so worried.”

It was always about his mother, how could I not have noticed. It was like I existed only to serve his mother.

I finally dropped the brush and turned to face him without getting out of the seat. He walked over to me, his gaze fixed on me, and his chest rising and falling in rapid breaths.

“You didn't call.” I pointed out.

“Well, yes,” his hand flew to the back of his head, “that's because I was so busy with work.”

Work, right.

“But you had time to take your mother's call?” I asked with a straight face, fighting back my tears because I had sworn not to cry anymore.

“Baby… what's all this about? You haven't even answered my question.” He inched closer, his hand finding its way to my face. He caressed me softly, but all I could think about was the way he held Lana earlier, the way he worshipped her body.

I pulled away, disgusted, and rose to my feet. I made my way over to the bed and felt his eyes following me.

“I was out with a friend.” I lied.

“Friend?” There was doubt in his voice. “But baby, you don't have any friends. Is this a new friend? Do I know them?”

Of course I didn't have friends, he had stopped me from going anywhere with anyone and made me believe that he was just protecting me. Oh, I was so foolish.

“I smell peaches again, another celebration?” I deviated, just to get him to say the truth.

“Oh.. yes, we nailed another deal today. It's been an amazing week at the office.” He grinned widely and my blood boiled. How could he lie to my face like this? Did I mean that little to him?

I sniffed, deciding that I had taken enough of his bullshit. He thought he could play games? Well so could I.

“Congratulations honey.” I smiled. “Well, I had a pretty fun day too hanging out with my new friend.” I smiled.

“About that. Mom said someone dropped you off at home today. A man.”

“Yeah,” I chuckled, “he's my new friend, Kade Morrison.”

I saw something shift in his eyes, it was fear, pure, undiluted fear. He tried to mask it, but his widened eyes were enough proof, and then I saw his fists tighten beside him.

“What?”

“Don't you know him? I'm sure you do, because you seem well acquainted with his wife, Lana Morrison.”

He staggered back, eyes almost popping out of their sockets.

  • Dear Ex Husband, Your Best Friend Worships Me Now.   Straddling his best friend.

MARISSA'S POV.I had spent five years of my life caring for this man, taking care of his mother and pushing behind the scenes, only to find this? He was so good at playing the perfect husband, really. “This has been going on for years.” Kade let out a dry scoff.“Lucas, more!” Lana groaned, bouncing up and down his thigh, straddling him while he let out grunts of pleasure. I almost choked on my tears, but Kade's palm tightened around my wrist once again. “Come on, you've seen enough.” He dragged me out of the office without making a sound, while I walked behind him almost lifelessly, those scenes playing over and over in my head. Was this why he never wanted to touch me? Was this why he didn't want to start a family and watched his mother call me barren? He was being loyal to her, she was all that mattered to him and not me. As we made our way through the lobby, I couldn't help but wonder what was wrong with me. I had tried my best to be a good wife, never complained, always work

  • Dear Ex Husband, Your Best Friend Worships Me Now.   Caught on the office desk.

MARISSA'S POV.I didn't care to look at that text a second time, nothing would convince me that Lucas was cheating on me, not even his vile mother who was already screaming down the house for her breakfast. When Lucas asked me to marry him, Susan protested, she called my family gold diggers and said I wasn't befitting for her son's status. Lucas ignored all of that and we got married anyway, but that never stopped Susan from telling me how much she despised me. She didn't care that I became her primary caretaker after her fatal accident. I was convinced that this was a well thought out plan to ruin my marriage, so I completely ignored it. Since it was a Saturday, I decided to distract myself with deep cleaning the whole house, it worked, and a few hours in, I went to check on Susan. She was on the phone, laughing harder than I had ever heard her laugh, and I stopped right by door, curious and tempted to listen. “Oh, the poor girl, she has no idea what's going on.” She sniffed, wip

  • Dear Ex Husband, Your Best Friend Worships Me Now.   The text message.

MARISSA'S POV.“Your husband is not in a business meeting, he's with his mistress.”I had stared at that text for over ten minutes, and yet I could not bring myself to believe it. The number was unsaved, and anyone else would have called to ask for more information, but I wasn't going to. I trusted my husband. Lucas loved me, we were the perfect couple, the envy of every couple in this city. I had known him for five years, and I knew he would never do anything to hurt me, so this text meant nothing to me. It was probably a prank by some jealous woman to try and ruin what Lucas and I shared.Whatever the motive, I wasn't going to let it get to me. It wasn't supposed to bother me, and yet, I couldn't help but fixate on the text throughout the day. “Marissa!” Susan's voice snapped me out of my thoughts, bitter as usual, like the world owed her something. I put the phone down and shuffled towards her room. “Yes, Susan.” I answered calmly, but the vile look on her face and the words t
