Serena craned her neck to see past Sophia, her smile already widening before she had even gotten a proper look. Sophia shifted her body further into the gap but it was already too late because Aria, completely unbothered by the tension her mother was currently under, ducked under Sophia's arm and pushed the door open wider with both hands and stepped out into the hallway as if she owned it.

Serena craned her neck to see past Sophia, her smile already widening before she had even gotten a proper look. Sophia shifted her body further into the gap but it was already too late because Aria, completely unbothered by the tension her mother was currently under, ducked under Sophia's arm and pushed the door open wider with both hands and stepped out into the hallway as if she owned it.She looked up at Serena with open, curious eyes. Then she turned to Sophia. "Mummy, who is the lady?"Sophia's stomach dropped.Serena's eyes moved from Aria's face to Sophia's and back again. She let the silence sit for just a moment and then covered her mouth with both her hands, pretending to be shocked. "Sophia." Her voice came out soft and stunned. "You have a child?""Clara," Sophia called quickly, already looking past Serena toward the room behind her. The nanny appeared in the doorway immediately. "Take Aria inside please.""But mummy I want to know who she is," Aria said, not moving."Aria

Julian was losing his mind, while pretending to be perfectly fine.By noon, he had called Sophie three times after telling himself he wasn't going to do it.He sat at his desk and listened to it ring until it cut off and then set his phone face down on the desk, staring at the wall.He picked the phone back up and called Dan."What hotel is she staying at?," Julian said as soon as Dan answered. "Send me the details immediately?"Dan paused, sighing tiredly."I don't have that information, sir," He said carefully. "Ms. King's team handles her personal accommodations privately. Even I don't have access to that."Julian exhaled slowly. "Then set up a meeting with her."A brief pause followed. "Sir, the contract discussions are essentially concluded at this point. There isn't a pressing business reason to request another meeting and her team will know that immediately.""Then make something up," Julian replied, his voice filled with desperation. "I don't care what it is. Find a reason, cr

The first report he had brought in was practically useless. LuminaTech was legitimate, built from the ground up over five years, with no suspicious funding sources. To make things worse, Sophia owned properties in Sydney and lived like a queen. The news had practically ruined her day but, not this. This time, he had brought her more personal information about Sophia.Serena read the line twice.[Subject gave birth to a child. Female. Approximately five years of age. Currently in New York with child.]She lowered the phone for a moment and looked out of the car window, exhaling.A child.Sophia had a child. She felt something loosen in her chest almost immediately. Relief. It finally made sense to her. That was why Sophia had been so composed, so unbothered and completely uninterested in Julian every time they were in the same room.Sophia had moved on.She had a life in Australia that included someone else and a child. She genuinely didn't want Julian back.Serena almost laughed. If t

Dan had been Julian's assistant for four years and in that time, he had learned to read the room well enough to know when his boss wanted information delivered quickly. So when Julian called him into the office that morning and told him to sit down, he obeyed without asking questions."The LuminaTech partnership." Julian started, leaning back in his chair.Dan already knew that his boss felt a certain way about LuminaTech, and he didn't need a soothsayer telling him it was because of Sophia King."Sophie—Ms. King said she'll get back to us on the response from her team. Has she?"Dan nodded and turned on his tablet. "Yes, she has. The response is positive."Julian almost smiled but quickly caught himself. He wasn't just happy because the deal with LuminaTech was beneficial to his company but also because it meant he had a reason to keep seeing Sophie."Most of the framework has been agreed on both sides. The legal team is working through the final contract language and we're expecting

“Anger,” Sophia said. “Obviously. Because who does he think he is, sending something like that after five years?” She paused. “And then something else underneath the anger that I didn’t want to look at too closely.”Lara was quiet, letting her continue.“He’s not the same,” Sophia said, and the words came out reluctantly, like she was admitting something she had been arguing against inside her own head for days. “I don’t mean that I’ve forgiven him or that any of it is okay. But when I look at him now or listen to him speak, I can just tell he isn’t the same person he was five years ago. Something has shifted in him and I can see it even when I don’t want to.”“Do you think you’ll ever forgive him?” Lara asked. “Not for his sake. For yours.”Sophia was quiet for a long moment. The question sat in the air between them and she didn’t rush to answer it, because it deserved more than a quick response.“I don’t know,” she said finally. “And that’s the honest answer. I don’t know if I can s

Sophia’s SuiteLara had shown up at the hotel room door that morning with two shopping bags full of toys and chocolates. As soon as Aria saw her at the door, she immediately abandoned her toys and ran straight to her.“Lara!” She screamed and threw her hands around Lara’s waist. Lara l“Lara!” She screamed and threw her hands around Lara’s waist. Lara laughed, dropping the bags and hugging her back properly. She lifted her off the ground, Aria’s happy giggles filling her ears before she set her back down.“Look at you,” Lara said, crouching down to her level. “You’ve grown since the last time I saw you. Are you sure you haven’t been secretly stretching yourself overnight?”Aria giggled. “That’s not how it works.”“Are you sure?” Lara asked seriously. “Because I’m a doctor and I’m telling you it’s possible.”Aria considered this for a moment and then shook her head firmly. “No it isn’t.”Lara pressed her lips together to hide her smile and looked up at Sophia who was still standing by

Julian's eyes widened as soon as the words left the maid's lips.Even though Sophie had said she would be leaving, he didn't expect her to actually go through with it.He exhaled slowly, running a hand through his hair as he tried to shake the feeling away. Sophie sat quietly in the living room, her hands resting on her lap as she stared at nothing in particular. The dining table was set a few feet away, the food long gone cold. “Congratulations, Sophie…you’re pregnant.”Sophie stared at her doctor and best friend, Lara, her expression blank as the words sank in. For a second, she wondered if she had misheard.
