Mijyne Event Hall.

Roberto alighted from the vehicle and headed to the other side to open the door for his wife. Not that he was trying to be a sweet gentleman. No, he didn't even want to show his face at whatever event Miriam was going to.

But... for the sake of his reputation and freedom, he had to.

He was dressed in a beaded blue suit jacket, black pants and an equally black turtle-necked inner shirt. He helped his wife out of the car and gently shut the door behind her. She was wearing a beige-coloured sequinned gown that accentuated her curves and height. Miriam was indeed beautiful. A pity she had become a shrew and a blackmailing spouse.

Whatever, he just wanted to get this function over with and retire to bed for good.

He had decided. He would be sleeping in the guestroom tonight for some peace of mind.

This place lived up to its fame. Just the parking lot spoke of grandness and riches. He could see several people, dressed elegantly, making their way over to the event hall.

Reluctantly, he had to hook arms with his wife and head into the venue. He also had to smile and act all natural, which sickened him to his stomach.

A short while after entering the venue, he was shocked. Not because of the riches spent on decorating the hall. Or the amazing food. Or the number of distinguished entities in the place. It was because this was a welcoming party held by Fawn Corporation. CEOs of small companies were even present in the prodigious place. But he never got an invitation.

If it weren't for Miriam, he would not even be aware.

His hands, which were placed in his pants pocket, clenched hard. Those bastards... they indeed looked down on him.

In the past, he looked down at them from a high position. But now, it was the reverse. So hateful!

"Darling, why are you just standing? You're not a statue," his wife, who had previously gone to socialise with her annoying set of friends present at the function, had now returned, a glass of wine in hand.

"When is it ending?" he asked, his tone gloomy.

She furrowed her brows in mystification. "What is ending?" she questioned.

"The party," he responded, not hiding his displeasure.

He hadn't even accepted a glass of wine earlier out of spite for Fawn Corporation!

"Seriously, Roberto?" she frowned, "We just got here," she whisper-yelled.

"You're the one who wanted to come here," he pointed out with a deep scowl, almost raising his voice, making her panic.

"Can you lower your voice? And besides, did I tie you up and bring you here?" she questioned in disgruntlement.

"You obviously blackmailed me, Miriam. I'm investigating, and I warn you, if I find out you lied just to extend the expiry date of our sinking marriage ship, I will..."

She scoffed in the face of his threat. "Investigate as deeply as you can. But right now, you better act properly," saying this, she handed him her glass of wine before harrumphing and leaving to join others.

After a while of standing there, consumed by his rage, which he couldn't let out, he decided to distract himself.

Now he remembered. Distinguished CEOs and other esteemed individuals were present at this party. Instead of being here and brooding, why shouldn't he try out his luck amongst them and see if he can land a better deal than the previous one with Fawn Corporation?

A business smile spread across his features as he made his way to his targets.

However, a long while later, he stood at a corner, apparently disappointed. He hadn't managed to land any good deals. Instead, his targets treated him like he was an outcast, a fucking plague.

His mood became increasingly sour. He hated that every bastard in this place was smiling and chatting like it was their main purpose in life.

He hated this goddamn party!

He hated the host company even more.

When he eventually made it, he would be sure to make Fawn Corporation go bankrupt.

Lily came to his mind. She unexpectedly was the legendary Peony of whom his wife loved her designs.

If the latter knew that the Peony whom she so adored was his ex-wife, how dark and twisted her face would become.

Ha, he couldn't wait to see that.

The CEO of Fawn Corporation took the stage and after a while of speaking, he smiled brightly and extended his right hand forward. "Please, welcome, the one and only, Lily Shawn, popularly known by her stage name, Peony."

At that the members of the audience looked towards the entrance, after parting to form a path.

The lights dimmed, and a spotlight materialised close to the entrance. Everyone waited with bated breath for the star of the event to appear.

A figure entered the hall, and everything one could guess it was the illustrious designer.

Many females here loved buying anything made by this icon.

Having to see her in person was a dream come true for many.

He scowled, his brows tightening. Wh-what was she saying? What did she mean by those words?"If it weren't for you, how would he die?" Miriam continued, her confidence seemingly starting to soar.Roberto was honestly confused. How could she say such a thing?"You're trying to play mind games? That's not going to work on me," She scoffed. "This isn't a game. Roberto, mention one word about divorcing me again, and I'll help you tear down your image. You'll watch from behind bars as your treasured company hits its most-deserved nadir," Having let out this warning, she made a sharp pivot, heading towards the room's exit.Roberto, though flustered, didn't attempt to stop her. For all he knew, he was innocent. He would never kill anyone.Seeing that he wasn't frantically following her, Miriam stopped in her tracks but didn't turn back. "You do recall Myles, right?"Myles...."Myles Watson. He used to be your rival in love." Roberto remembered that man. Indeed, he had once felt the latter

"Get lost!" Miriam barked, feeling her ire increase at their presence. They weren't welcome here!"W-we saw nothing," Leona said, turning to take her leave."Sorry, ma'am. S-sorry sir," saying this with a slightly tremulous voice, the gatekeeper also made a sharp pivot and quickly followed after the ravenette."Miriam, you slapped me?!" Roberto asked, eyes widened, his tone a meld of rage and disbelief. His wife scoffed, arms folded over her chest, feet set in defiance. "I did. And so? What will you do?" she taunted."I don't hit women. But you're pushing me,""Do it if you dare," she dared him again, looking confident that he wouldn't. "See if I won't get you arrested for domestic violence."Without warning, he closed the distance between them and circled his right fingers around her throat, quickly lifting her off the ground, his eyes blazing with fury. "You bitch!"Miriam was both stunned and fleyed. She'd never expected he would do this to her. Her legs kicked about as she tried t

“I’m not going to sign that rubbish,” she spat, hitting the table once more, even harder this time.“You bitch!” Roberto was compelled to curse, his hands fisted by his sides. How dare she refuse after the lengths he’d taken to get the document ready? She was the one who fucking wanted a divorce, so convinced about it. No, she had to sign the papers and exit his home today.“Miriam, sign the papers and leave if you don’t want to get hurt.”“Get hurt?” she scoffed, a mocking laugh, “You should be more worried about yourself. You think you can survive without me?” she pointed conceitedly at herself as she asked this.“I was, before you returned to the country. And I was doing even better back then,” he shot back.“So you’re saying I’m not as good as your ex, huh? That classless Lily?”“Whatever you think. I don’t have time for your tantrums."Miriam’s face became uglier. She lunged at her husband, intending to hit him, but he grabbed her right hand, his face stern.“You want to hit me?”

Several minutes later…Roberto stepped out of the bathroom clad in a grey bathrobe, a small towel draped over his wet hair.He badly needed that shower. His phone, which was placed on the bedside cabinet, started ringing, and he subconsciously made his way to fetch it. As soon as he saw the caller ID, he frowned and declined the call. However, the caller resumed calling almost immediately, prompting the scowl on his face to deepen even more.He cut the call once more and threw the phone on the bed, flumping down on the side of the bed, a defeated sigh eventually escaping his lips. He hunched forward, resting his chin on the back of his right hand while staring into the void, lost in thought. The phone beside him kept on vibrating, but he didn’t bother to pick it up.His mind thought back to Lily. Everything about her made him regret. If only there were a pill for regret, he would have taken an overdose, so as to right his wrongs, so he could have the happy family he dreamed of with Li

6 minutes had passed and she hadn't stopped what she was doing.Roberto chose to stand, watching her engrossed in her work. More minutes flew by, the silence hovering between them was thick. For a moment, he started entertaining the thought that this lady didn't want to see them at all.But patience was one of the things he had learned to have over the years. After roughly almost an extra 4 minutes of them standing, she finally raised her head to look up at him and his secretary.Upon seeing who he was, her eyes flickered in surprise, and for a moment her jaws almost dropped open but then she quickly collected herself, the cold demeanor returning as she held his gaze. She hadn't expected to meet him here of all places. But she couldn't act familiar with him, he was a stranger to her.Roberto, on his part, was stunned after his target raised her head. How come she looked familiar — similar to his ex-wife even?"Why are you guys still standing?" she asked, looking puzzled."We just fel
