The night after the gala, I woke up to an empty side of the bed. I rolled over and checked the clock, still before 7a.m.
"Good morning, sunshine." Ethan called from across the room, pulling on his tie in the mirror.
I frowned, sitting up. "Where are you off to this early? Sneaking out on me again?"
He pinched the bridge of his nose, and shook his head. "Work. You know how my boss is."
I frowned, as I walked over to his side. "You barely have time for me anymore. It’s always work, work, work. You didn’t even stay until the end of last night’s award."
He turned quickly, eyes sharp. "Speaking of awards, guess which agency reached out about you?"
I gave him a look, one eyebrow raised higher than the other. "Is that your apology?"
He pulled me closer to his chest, arms wrapped around my waist. "Not quite. But… I made some plans that’ll surprise you tonight."
I felt heat rise to my cheeks, but I refused to smile. I was still mad. "Okay, so which agency?"
He smiled. "Remember my friend from last night?"
"Which one?"
"Jace Weston, CEO of West Modeling. Who else?"
My mouth dropped open.
"He. Wants. To. Work. With. Me?" I asked, blinking.
Ethan broke out into a wide beaming smile. "You heard right. And the pay's good. Just imagine it... a luxury agency backing you." He painted the picture with his hands.
I pictured it, nodding. But it wasn't just the exposure that caught my interest... revenge. My plan was simple... make Jace fall for me, then reject him publicly, and leave him crushed, just as he left me.
Yes, I had Ethan, and Jace knew we were engaged, but I knew men like Jace, he wouldn't give a care if I were to lead him on, especially because men loved to crave the ones they could never have.
"Fine. I’ll take the deal." I murmured, as he pulled me into a quick kiss.
"That's my girl. I'II forward the address and time to you."
I nodded, and just like that, he was gone.

.
I stepped into West Modelling agency, in a tailored blue gown that hugged perfectly to my tiny waist and curves. My black hair was packed in a cute bun, with a few strands tugging behind my ear. I had light make-up on, and my heels sounded against the marble floor.
The receptionist smiled nervously at me. "Hi, welcome! You’re here for the 10 a.m. with the board?"
"That’s me," I said, my voice a fraction too loud, as I steadied my breath. Everything would be okay, I kept reassuring myself.
She led me to a glass conference room, where numerous men in suits sat. I noticed the seat at the head of the table was empty, and I mentally rolled my eyes. Of course, golden boy was probably taking his god damn time to arrive.
"Miss Elsa," A good-looking redhead smiled as he rose, "Huge fan of your designs. We’re thrilled to bring you on board. Please take a seat."
I nodded, taking the seat opposite him.
"So," he continued, sliding a contract across the table. "I'm Carter, Jace manager. Jace was really impressed by your collection at the gala. He thinks you’d be a perfect fit for our new luxury collab line. We would be offering five percent of net profits, with a shared creative direction."
I blinked. "Five percent?"
"Yes."
"Of my own work?"
"Yes."
I laughed, really laughed, and pushed the contract back towards him. "Sorry, but I won't take five percent." I said bluntly, no room for debate.
Carter’s smile fell "Well, it’s industry standard..."
I cut him off, "It’s theft with extra paperwork."
He leaned back in his chair, frowning harder now. The other members of the board had similar looks on their faces, but I didn't care, so I went on.
"I want fifteen percent, full creative control over my designs, and a veto option on all marketing. That includes product photography." I kept my voice sharp as I spoke, this wasn't a negotiation.
Carter sighed, clearly annoyed. "You drive a hard bargain."
Just then, my phone vibrated in my bag. It was Ethan. 'I hope is going well, babe. This could change everything for your brand. Think of what you could do with the exposure'
I chewed the inside of my cheek. Ethan was right. Dammit.
I turned back to Carter. "Final offer: twelve, with all my terms, and I'II sign"
There was a pause.
Then: "Deal. I'II send the new contract via email to you, once it's ready."
I nodded, signing the contract was just the first step. Jace Weston would have no idea what hit him.
I quickly pushed Jace away, starring at Ethan shocked reaction. His hand was still on the door knob and his jaw was literally on the floor. Gosh, I couldn't believe this was happening to me of all people."Uhm, did you get it out." I heard Jace asked beside me, I turned to look at him with a raised brow. He's tilting his head back, and closing an eye like there's something in it.What the heck is he... Ohh. I get it."Yeah, I think it's out." I rubbed his eyelids with my index finger. He straightened and looked at Ethan over his shoulder, as if he didn't know he was there."Oh hey, Ethan." He smiled, walking towards Ethan. Ethan didn't even look at me, he just grabbed Jace by the collar pinning him against the door, I gasped."What the hell man?" Jace growled, quite the character, but Ethan was not having it, he tossed Jace across the room. "Ethan." I screamed. But again, he ignored me letting his possessive nature got the best of him. He slammed his arm into the table, sending all m
The car doors slid open. I sank into the passenger seat, as Jace got in beside me and started the engine. The leather was ridiculously soft, almost too comfortable. The sharp scent of cigarettes snapped me back to reality, I wrinkled my nose and turned just in time to see Jace take a long drag of a cigarette. He blew the smoke out of the window, his eyes never leaving the road. I snatched it from his lips and threw it out of the open window."What was that for?" He groaned, glancing at me. "I’m allergic," I said, brushing non existent ash off my lap. "And it’ll ruin your lungs, you know."He smirked. "So you care?"I shook my head. "Don't flatter yourself Mr Weston."After a couple minutes of driving, he brought the car to a halt infront my apartment. So soon though?"I should say hi to Ethan." Before I could even reply, he pulled open the driver's door and came down, I followed behind.Taking quick steps to the door, I reached for the key in my clutch bag, inserting it, and pulling
"What the hell, why didn’t you say that was the reason you were holding me so tightly?" I whisper-yelled, face flushed in shame, as I grabbed the dress holding it infront my naked body."If you weren't too much of a bitch, maybe I would have." Jace irritating voice drags me out of my thought. I bite down on every comeback screaming in my throat, now’s not the time."Can you please turn around?" I asked, and to my surprise, he actually did. Clutching the dress tightly around my arm, I rushed to the wardrobe corner, where I'd left my black dress. After minutes of wondering how I'm going to face Jace again, I slowly made my way back to the studio. He was still there, standing exactly where I left him, his back to me.I swallowed. "You can look now."He turned around quickly, that stupid smirk on his face. Great, if only the ground could swallow me this instant."So..." he began, his gaze dragging over me like I was still naked. I crossed my arms over my chest. I wasn’t in the mood to ta
The photo studio was packed; ring lights set, cameras flashing, stylists running around, adjusting clothes. I stood near the wardrobe section, making sure the dresses were perfect for today’s photoshoot. This was my first collaboration with West Modeling Agency, and I wanted everything to go smoothly.Just then, Maria, my manager rushed up breathless."What's wrong." I asked, cutting a loose thread from a blue satin gown."Lena's stuck in traffic. There's no one to model the final look."I didn't even blink. "I'II wear it.""But...""I said I’ll wear it."Minutes later, I was behind a curtain, squeezing into the tightest red carpet gown I’d ever designed. The zipper was halfway up and stuck. I twisted my arm, tugging harder, but it wouldn’t budge."Shit," I muttered under my breath, feeling the pressure. We barely had any time left.I held my breath, tried again... but it still wouldn’t move. "Maria, can you help me with the zipper?"A few minutes later, Maria walked over, and started
I didn’t know how long I sat on the edge of the bed, my eyes flicking to the clock every few minutes; midnight, one, two.Ethan hadn’t come home.He hadn’t replied my texts or returned my calls either. He was supposed to surprise me tonight, but here I was with nothing but an ache in my chest. I could guess why, of course. Work. It was always work.By morning, I felt strong arms wrap around my waist, my back pressing into something hardly. I blinked slowly, as I turned to find Ethan curled beside me, his breathing even, hair a mess. He looked peaceful, as if he hadn’t left me waiting all night again. As if feeling my gaze, his eyes fluttered open."Good morning, sunshine," he murmured, a sleepy smile tugging at his lips. And a dimple forming on his cheeks.I didn’t smile back. "I waited up for you."He sighed, rubbing weakly at his eyes. "I know, babe. I’m sorry. Work ran late... again. But once I close this next contract, I swear, you’ll have me all to yourself.""That’s what you alw
I was already halfway across the floor when I pulled out my phone to call Sarah. Yes? The same Sarah from highschool, we kept communicating even after I left. And in a few days she'll be coming over to pay me a visit. It felt so good to have someone familiar around.I flung my phone back in my purse, only to notice my wallet was no longer inside. Dammit. I must have taken it out after Ethan messaged me.I sighed and headed for the open elevator. But like always fate had other plans, just as I stepped in, Jace Weston did too. Of course, golden boy would show up after the deal was concluded. Our eyes locked. He was wearing a black silky short sleeved buttoned down. Muscles rippled beneath his half buttoned shirt, I could see the veins popping out of his arms. I didn't know how I managed to notice all this details without breaking eye contact, but somehow I did."Elsa, we meet again" He smirked, as he pressed the elevator button. I couldn't help but notice how muscular and tan his arms
