Sebastian

I hesitated for a moment before following him. The wind was sharp as blades here, the trees whispering secrets only they understood. Having lived in New York for so long, this hidden plethora of villas was completely tucked away from plain sight. The towering trees and mountains created a fortress of nature. The air was chilly.

Each villa was interconnected in a circular motion, like the segments of a coconut, all leading up to the massive one in the center—like the heart of a beast. A perfect metaphor for the Society itself. No one above it. No one beyond it.

“Welcome to one of the Echelon Society compounds here in New York,” Julian said, smug. He laid a hand on my shoulder, and I shrugged it off with disgust. Julian, unlike my father, was built like a bear—broad, imposing—with the eyes of a serpent. “This will all be yours to command soon.”

"I’m not sure if it’s arrogance or delusion keeping you from hearing me, but let me be clear, Julian—I don’t want your empire, your

Sebastian “Thank you,” Stella whispered, dabbing her cheeks with her fingers as though wiping away the last traces of shame. Her voice trembled just enough to seem fragile. “I’m ready to apologize to Olivia for… everything. I just hope she can forgive me.”I exhaled through my nose, leaning against the edge of my desk. “Stella, you have nothing to worry about. Olivia’s heart… it’s too soft for grudges. She forgives even when she shouldn’t.”A hopeful smile flickered across her lips.“It’s late,” I said, glancing at my watch. My chest tightened as the thought of Olivia home alone, pregnant, probably wondering where the hell I was gnawed at me. “Why don’t you stop by the house tomorrow? We can handle this then. I need to go.”“Wait… wait.” Her voice came out quick, high-pitched, like a kid trying to stall bedtime. She snatched the bottle of wine she’d brought and held it up like some kind of trophy. “Just one toast. Please.”I hesitated, my gut whispering bad idea, but I’d known her si

Sebastian “So… your best friend is in love with me, huh?” I muttered into the phone, a low laugh rumbling in my chest as I leaned back in my office chair. On the other end of the line, Olivia’s laughter spilled out like soft bells, her amusement contagious. I shook my head, grinning to myself. I couldn’t believe Kaylee actually had the guts to say that crap out loud. “Sebastian,” Olivia finally said, trying to calm her giggles, “just stay away from her. She’s a snake, and she’s desperate. I can smell it through the phone.” “You have nothing to worry about, sweetheart,” I said, my voice dipping softer, the kind of voice I used only for her. “In a couple of months, we’ll be out of New York, and all this will be behind us. Her, Phillip… all of it.” “I can’t wait,” she replied in that soft, babyish tone. I could practically picture her biting her lip, curled up somewhere in my shirt, eyes sparkling. “I have to go now,” I murmured, reluctant but smiling. “I’ll see you in a couple o

KayleeSleep refused to come that night. I tossed and turned, the sheets tangling around my legs like they were mocking me. My brain should’ve been panicking about Olivia and whatever the hell she was plotting, but all I could think about was him.Sebastian Lancaster.God, even his name made my chest tighten. What if Olivia actually loved him? No, that couldn’t be. She’d always complained about him, rolled her eyes, said she couldn’t wait to divorce him. She hated him. Right? But what if she didn’t?I groaned and grabbed my phone from the nightstand. My thumb hovered over the screen like it had a mind of its own. I had his number—of course I did. I’d snatched it during their wedding, but I’d never used it. Not once. Calling him now was insane. Desperate. Risky. But the idea of hearing his voice…Screw it.I hit call. The first ring barely finished before that deep, steady voice filled my ear.“Hello? Who’s this?”My pulse kicked up. “Hey… it’s Kaylee. Olivia’s best friend. I was wonde

Kaylee“Philip… what the actual hell is this?” My voice cracked as I froze in the doorway. The smell hit me first—coppery blood and damp concrete, thick enough to make my stomach churn. My gaze landed on the man slumped against the wall. His head lolled forward, hair matted with dried blood, his shirt ripped and soaked through. He looked like he’d been chewed up and spit out by a truck.“Oh my God,” I whispered, my hand flying to my mouth. “Is he… Philip, is he dead? Tell me he’s not dead!”Philip stopped pacing long enough to glance at me. His jaw flexed like he was grinding his teeth to keep himself calm.“That,” he said coldly, pointing at the heap of a man, “is Nathan. And he’s been on my tail for a while now.”I blinked, my brain scrambling to connect dots that weren’t lining up. “Okay… and your brilliant solution was to… kill him?”“Kaylee, shut up for one damn second and just listen,” he snapped, and that got my attention—not just the words, but the crack in his voice.Philip r

Olivia “Olivia, you nearly collapsed out there.” Sebastian’s voice was low but tight with worry as he guided me off the runway and into the car. “I told you to sit this event out. You’re pregnant, for God’s sake.” He didn’t sound angry—he never really did with me. It was that heavy, protective tone he had when fear outweighed everything else. I let my head fall back against the cool leather seat, my chest still rising and falling too fast. “I’m sorry,” I whispered, guilt nibbling at the edges of my voice. “I should’ve listened to you.” “Come here.” He didn’t hesitate, pulling me into his arms like I was made of porcelain. His scent—warm cedar, faint cologne, and something uniquely him—wrapped around me. His arms were firm, grounding me, and for a moment, I let myself melt into him. I wasn’t sure why he was suddenly this overprotective. He’d always watched out for me, but this… this was different. He hovered now like the air I breathed. Maybe it was the baby, but deep down, I fel

Philip “Even the strongest men break eventually, Nathan,” I murmured, my voice low and cold as I crouched in front of him. “And you, my friend… you’re no exception. I will watch you shatter.” He didn’t flinch. Not a single twitch, no spark of fear. I straightened, the stale stench of blood and rust clinging to the damp air around us. My boots scraped against the concrete floor as I paced a slow circle, studying him. He was slumped against the stained wall, hands chained above his head, his shirt ripped and soaked through with blood. My men had beaten him for days, and still… he wouldn’t talk. “Just give me the name of your employer,” I said, letting my voice drop to a near whisper, almost gentle. “One name, and this all ends. You walk out of here alive.” He lifted his head slowly, a strand of blood-matted hair falling across his swollen eye. Then, he laughed—low and humorless. “Go to hell,” he rasped. I froze for a second. How the hell was he still defiant? A week of pain, of
