☆☆SUMMER'S POV☆☆

The knock didn’t stop Hayden or me. Nope. Whoever it was could bang until their knuckles bled. We weren’t moving from the tub. My mind did that annoying thing where it imagined Jake out there, glaring like a thundercloud, or Celeste, wide-eyed and teary. Hell, maybe it was the maid with fresh towels.

Fuck it. I didn’t care who it was. Hayden was inside me, and that was the only knock I was answering. The door rattled until the knocking stopped. And we both came crashing down together, at the same time.

We had our bath after and went to bed. The moment I hit the mattress, I fell asleep. All through the night, Hayden held me close. He didn’t have any episodes tonight. Sometimes, I’d wake up and watch him. He slept like a baby.

The next morning, sunlight streaked in through the curtains. A knock came at the door again, waking me from my sleep. Hayden was already up, sitting at the reading table. His eyes snapped toward the door.

“Good morning,” I breathed, half asleep.

☆☆SUMMER'S POV☆☆Megan’s words still rang in my ears. I was convinced I misheard. The cafeteria incident was Jake’s idea? What a joke. A very terrible, really bad joke.“I’m sorry—what? That’s the most funniest joke I’ve heard in a while.”“It’s not a joke, Summer.” She didn’t flinch. “He staged it. The chaos. The shove. The beating.”“No.” I laughed. “That’s ridiculous. Jake’s an idiot sometimes, sure, but self-sabotage isn’t his brand.”“We weren’t even supposed to be at the cafeteria that evening.”“So you’re saying he asked you guys to be there? And you just shower up?”“Forced. He forced us to be there.”“What do you mean?”“He kept his end of the deal. By keeping the frats out of prison, said the assault was just for show. Something for their movie they were putting together.”“What? You’re lying.”Megan tilted her head, arms still crossed like she was the executioner and I was on trial. “Do I look like I am?”I stared at her. Long and hard. She wasn’t lying. The story just wasn

☆☆SUMMER'S POV☆☆The words slammed into me. Hayden’s hands curled into fists on the table. My brain replayed Celeste’s trembling sobs, her wide-eyed victim act, Jake’s sudden loyalty.I whispered, half to myself, “She’s been staging it… all of it?”Rowan nodded. “Looks that way.”Hayden swore under his breath. “So she’s been playing us. Every single one of us.”Evan leaned back, smug. “If she’s her own stalker, she’s not just dangerous to herself. She’s dangerous to everyone dumb enough to get close.”His gaze flicked to me, like he knew exactly how close I’d been. How I’d fallen for her charade. I thought about Jake defending her. The earrings. Her secret smiles. The way she snapped at me, then melted for him.Rowan’s voice dropped to a whisper. “No one would have known. She did send gifts to herself. She made it believable.”“She didn’t want anyone to know,” the words escaped from my lips.“She lied about telling her parents about the stalker,” Hayden added.“So if she’s been pullin

☆☆SUMMER'S POV☆☆It had been two weeks since Hayden and I left the mansion. Jake had stopped calling. He ghosted me like I was some bad Tinder date. That was really weird. I told myself it didn’t matter, but the truth? It gnawed at me. We were starting to be friends and now, everything seemed like it was falling apart again.I was staying with Hayden. It felt safer and warmer. And the sex? God! The sex. It got better every fucking time. Still, my mind often wandered to Jake and Celeste. Every time I went back to the dorm to grab something, I got the same question from random girls in the hall:“Have you seen Celeste?”And every time, I had to lie. No. Not lately. But I knew. Of course I knew. If Celeste hadn’t returned to the dorm, she was still with Jake. Hayden checked the mansion yesterday—doors locked, windows shuttered, like nobody had lived there in years. Jake must’ve slithered back to his penthouse, dragging Celeste with him. This morning, I woke up with a headache that felt l

☆☆SUMMER'S POV☆☆Celeste’s scream rattled the chandelier. Rowan stumbled back, her face pale.“Jesus Christ. Who the hell sends that? That’s not—” She cut herself off, swallowing hard. I tried to calm Celeste down. She was shaking profusely. Her breath was ragged as if she’d run a marathon. Jake stood there in disbelief.“Celeste,” Rowan said carefully, “I swear I didn’t know what was inside. I never open the packages. You know that. Emotional freelancing means staying out of my clients’ business. That’s the rule.”Celeste’s hands trembled against her mouth. Tears slipped through her fingers.Rowan’s eyes burned with guilt. She shifted the strap of her satchel on her shoulder, voice cracking. “If there’s any way I can help, I will.”Celeste sobbed harder. Jake’s jaw was tight, dangerous. Rowan left shortly. I helped Celeste get in bed and hurried downstairs to clean up the mess. I took several photos of it for evidence. Jake and I waited downstairs. We made dinner before Hayden retu

☆☆SUMMER’S POV☆☆Jake’s words echoed in my head long after they left his mouth. Don’t you wish it was me instead of Hayden?“What the hell do you mean by that?” I demanded. But his face had already shut down, like I’d never heard him at all. His expression smoothed into that infuriating blank mask.“Forget it.” He pushed himself up from the poolside, wincing as his cast shifted. “I’ve got a headache.”“Jake—”“Summer,” he cut me off. Softer, but final. “I’m sorry for earlier. Really. Just… drop it, okay?”I wanted to argue, but I couldn’t. He was gone before I found my voice again, leaving ripples in the pool and a pit in my stomach.I was horrified. So I didn’t think too much about it. He had a concussion the other day. And yesterday, he fell down a flight of stairs and ended up with a broken arm. His feelings are all over the place. He’d pick himself back up again. At least, that’s what I told myself. 🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸It was soon time for breakfast. Still, Jake hadn't shown up. Everyon
