Art exhibition

I wore a chic off-the-shoulder mini dress in the colors black and white. It had sleeves that widened at the wrists dramatically, and a bow detail in the centre that extended to the waist.

Most of the dress was white, except for the bow detail and around the off-shoulder piece. Those were black. I wore white stilettos to match the look and carried a white purse. I chose a bare neck, but I had on pearl earrings.

My hair was in a low bun to accentuate my bare back and neck.

“You look gorgeous,” May said. “But I wish you had let me style you.”

She was my best friend and the best stylist and designer I had ever met. She was the one I had assigned to Celeste so she could make a fashion statement and get people talking about her and Seth.

“I didn’t want to outdo the woman of the night,” I said to her.

We were at the art exhibition, and Seth had still not arrived with Celeste. I wasn’t looking forward to seeing him after the interaction we had. I didn’t know why I felt something so strong for him, and I wasn’t willing to explore it either.

He was a client and a man I wanted to suffer for his sins.

“I wonder where she is,” May commented. She was in a simple, backless silver dress with spaghetti straps. It reached her ankles, but it managed to make her look amazing.

“They’ll be here soon,” I said. “You look beautiful, May. Thank you for doing this for me.”

“I did it for the check,” she joked, and I smiled.

When Seth walked in with Celeste on his arm, all eyes were on them. Seth was in a black tux with a golden handkerchief and bow tie to match Celeste’s dress.

The cameras flashed on them so much that it was almost blinding. Celeste was in a floor-length black, white, and gold sculptural dress. It was straight off the runway, worn by none other than the highest-paid model, Kendall Hadid.

The bodice of the dress was asymmetrical, one side strapless, with the black fabric sculpted into a sharp, angled neckline. The skirt was made of white draped fabric, gathered in a way that resembled a classical Greek drapery.

What made the dress stand out was the gold embellishments, like the sculpted hands on the dress, one covering her breast, and the other around her waist. She also had a golden snake necklace and gold earrings.

Her hair was in an updo, and her makeup was flawless. She looked amazing.

“May, this look is going to be all over the blogs tomorrow,” I said with a smile on my face. This was why I trusted May to do her thing. She got Celeste ready, and she still had time to put together her own look.

The couple had already walked the carpet, and they were interacting with others. All eyes were on Celeste as I had wanted, and May was smiling as she stared at her work.

Since I wasn’t due to talk to the couple, I walked to the paintings and started staring. I was thinking of getting pieces of my own. I knew one of the artists featured in the exhibition, and he had a piece of me.

I wondered if people would notice. It was a black-and-white painting featuring my face only. It featured the left side of my face, and it was a close-up, showcasing my eyes and part of my hair.

It had no color, but it showcased so much emotion—emotion I no longer had. It was painted years ago, when we were in college. Back when I didn’t have the weight of the world and my family on my shoulders.

When he called me to ask whether he should feature the painting in the exhibition, I was a little skeptical. Nonetheless, I agreed.

“It’s an amazing painting,” someone said from behind me.

I knew just from his scent that it was Seth. I didn’t answer because part of me wanted to see if he would recognize that it was me in the painting.

“I see why companies flock to you for PR. People have been coming to me all night with business propositions.”

I hummed in response, still staring at the painting and wondering why a man who had everything could be so vile. He was born into money and set to take over his old-money family business, but he chose to make his own company and form his own path. It was why he had a terrible relationship with his parents.

But all that didn’t make him a good person. I knew all the terrible secrets he was hiding in his closet, and I was going to make sure he paid for each one.

“There you are,” Celeste said as she approached us and hooked her arm around Seth’s elbow. You could tell he didn’t like it, but he wasn’t going to shrug her off in public. “Thank you for putting together this look. Everyone will be talking about me tomorrow.”

“And no magazine will be able to take your name out of their mouth when I’m done with you,” I said to her, and she smiled gleefully.

She didn’t realize what I was saying to her without saying it. I was going to lift her up, and when she thought she couldn’t get any higher, I was going to drop her so far down that she would never be able to show her face again.

You know the saying, the higher you go, the harder you fall.

“Nikolai!” Celeste exclaimed as she looked behind me. I tensed a little, waiting for the man she had called out to appear.

He appeared next to me, his scent unnerving me, unlike Seth’s scent that drew me to him.

“What are you doing here?” Seth asked.

“I’m meeting a client here. I saw you two, and I thought I would come and say hi.” He said. “You look stunning, Celeste.”

I could feel the man’s eyes on me, so I tried to hide my nervousness. He was a little shocked when I turned and met his gaze with mine.

“Ivy Vale,” I introduced myself.

When I saw him, all I could hear was my sister screaming and crying, begging him to spare her. A fire like none before ignited inside me. Seeing him in pictures was one thing, but seeing him in person was an entirely different experience.

I felt anger bubble up inside me that I could barely contain. I wanted to kill him.

“Nikolai West.”

I knew who he was. He was a lawyer who had represented the worst of the worst. He was the best in the city. The way he was looking at me told me he could see something in me he didn’t trust.

But he wasn’t the person whose trust I wanted or needed. Seth was the link to Nikolai West, Asher Quinn, Michael Montgomery, and Beckett Matthews. Those were all men who would meet my wrath.

By the time I was done with all of them, they would quake at the sound of my name.

“Excuse me,” I excused myself and walked away before I lost my cool and lashed out. Seeing Nikolai had made me rethink if I was even ready for my quest for revenge. My heart was beating fast, and my palms were sweating. Nikolai was the worst in the pack. He was the evilest man I had ever seen in my lifetime.

May grabbed my hand, scaring me.

“Are you okay?” She asked. “You look pale.”

I forced a tight smile, ignoring how my insides were going wild. “I’m fine. Talk to me.”

“I wanted to tell you that your client has been looking at you all night. His fiancée is best dressed, and he can’t seem to take his eyes off you. He’s hot, too. One night with him would relax you. Too bad he's engaged.”

I laughed it off and looked behind, my eyes landing on Seth. He was already staring at me, and his gaze did the impossible. It calmed me. All that anger and nervousness and I felt from seeing Nikolai was gone.

It was time for phase two. By the time I was done with Seth, he wouldn’t be able to get his mind off of me.

  • Deceiving A Billionaire   She didn't know (2)

I agreed to meet Elizabeth at a nearby restaurant. I had to cancel some of the meetings I had so that I could meet with her and find out the truth, but I didn’t want to believe that my brother could have lied to me in any way.He knew her better than Seth, even though he didn’t know that. You reveal so much of yourself when you are sleeping with someone instead of being friends with them.Choosing to show someone your body and be intimate with them makes you develop a certain level of trust that you didn’t have with other people who hadn’t seen you in your most intimate and vulnerable ways. When she finally arrived, she looked like she had aged decades, just from the Asher drama. It had been dragging on for a little over a month, and it was getting really bad.But luckily for her, she had some people on the Internet, defending her because of the tactic I had told her to use. People were debating whether she was a victim of domestic abuse, and whether they should feel sorry for her, or

  • Deceiving A Billionaire   She didn't know (1)

It was over for Asher. Shit was going very badly. He had been prosecuted and was in prison awaiting trial. I heard his bail hearing was going to be in a few days but neither he nor his wife had the kind of money that would allow him to walk Scott free. They had lost everything after the allegations against him got serious. Not only was he being accused of fraud and embezzlement, but he was also being accused of sexual crimes. Most of the victims who had come forward had also named Nikolai and Michael in their lawsuits.I wondered how Beckett got away with it, but he seemed to be the safe one out of all of them. Even Seth wasn’t even in the conversation and it came to Asher and the things that he had done.I was kind of shocked and it made me wonder if my brother had lied to me yet again about Seth or I had to blindly trust him like I had all these years.Things in my life were going well and Seth and I were growing strong. I had hung out with his grandmother and grandfather a couple o

  • Deceiving A Billionaire   Turn on him

As soon as I left the coffee shop, Seth asked me to go to an address. I already knew it was Nikolai’s penthouse, and I wondered why he would call me there. He knew how much I resented the man.I pretended to tolerate Michael, Beckett, and even Asher. But when it came to Nikolai, I felt disgusted just by looking at him.I texted Jesse where I was and asked him to come looking for me if I didn’t contact him within the next few hours. I didn’t trust any of the men. And while I felt safe with Seth, he was still a bad person.I couldn’t forget that. He was also friends with Nikolai. When I got to the penthouse, all the men were there—Beckett, Nikolai, Michael, and Seth. Asher was missing. They all looked like they were in mourning. Every single one of them was under a microscope because of Asher’s controversy. All of them except Seth, because he tried as much as possible not to be seen out in public with the others.“Why am I here?” I asked, looking directly at Seth.“We wanted your opinio

  • Deceiving A Billionaire   Asher loses

“Billionaire Asher Quinn loses everything…”“This just in, Asher Quinn’s best friend, Michael Montgomery, is burying articles exposing Asher Quinn to fraud and money laundering.”“Reports say bigshot lawyer, Nikolai West, will be representing Asher Quinn in his fraud case. Does this imply where his morals stand? All this comes after Mr. Quinn was accused of sleeping with a nineteen-year-old girl.”All these were the reports on all the news stations. It was all people were talking about. I was the one who leaked that Michael was burying records. I wanted his reputation and that of Nikolai to suffer a little.People were already boycotting their companies.“You called me?” Josh asked as he walked into my office.I was in Mark’s office with a nice view of the city. It was the size of a suite, it had a fireplace, a TV, a leather couch, and a very huge mahogany desk. Since I was the boss, I could summon employees.“Asher told me you’re not picking up his calls,” I said, as I leaned against

  • Deceiving A Billionaire   Shit hit the fan

“You held it down in front of my family. Everyone loves you—the ones who matter at least. Nona wouldn’t stop talking about you. You really know how to charm people.”I smiled. I had planned this for years. Of course, I knew exactly what to do to charm his grandparents. It was the easiest way to get him to ask me to marry him. The inheritance clause was a bonus.“I am so glad they liked me. I was so nervous. I had to pull so many strings to get those gifts for them. It was the only way I knew how to break the ice.” I said. “Thank you for telling me the things they wanted the most.”“Nona and grandpa normally don’t like material gifts, but you managed to make the gifts sentimental.”He was happy, and so was I. We were debating in whose house we would spend the night when Seth’s phone started ringing. When he saw that it was Asher calling, he turned it off.But it just kept ringing.“I think you should pick up the call,” I said. “It could be an emergency.”He picked up his phone and angr

  • Deceiving A Billionaire   Dinner with family

Seth and I headed to his grandparents’ house. He had slept at my house the previous day, which made it easier for us to take his car to go for dinner. He mentioned it was a big deal and many relatives were going to be there, so I had to dress glamorously as everyone would. They treated dinners like a black and tie event.I wore a short, soft pink satin dress, silver stilettos, and I put my hair in a high bun and wore light strawberry makeup. I put on diamond stud earrings, wore a tennis bracelet, and necklace, and carried a pink Kelly Hermes bag.I wanted to fit in with his family. When Seth and I arrived, there were a lot of cars parked up front. The dinner was in a Victorian mansion that looked more like a castle than a house. It had like fifteen bedrooms and four bathrooms. The property had a ranch, a small lake, and a forest. It was huge, and there weren’t neighbors nearby, and there were bodyguards everywhere. I guess many people wanted to harm the Ashford matriarch and patriarch

  • Deceiving A Billionaire   Better the devil you know

“I don’t think this is appropriate,” I said as I tried to pull away, but he had an iron grip on my arm. I was never a nervous person, but when it came to Seth, I became a different version of myself.“Why? Because your little boyfriend will not like this?” He asked.I knew he had been staring at me

  • Deceiving A Billionaire   The next phase

I couldn’t remember the last time I cried. I had grown strong over the years, and very little could hurt me. I had already been hurt enough throughout the years, and there was nothing I hadn’t seen. But I was going to have to summon some waterworks for the next phase of my plan. I couldn’t deny tha

  • Deceiving A Billionaire   Confused

You didn’t have to look that hard to realize the couple wasn’t in a real relationship. I had done my homework, and I knew that they were in an arranged partnership. That wasn’t information I got easily.I got it from years of cultivating connections everywhere.Only one of them was in love with the

  • Deceiving A Billionaire   Early meeting

My ankle was still sprained a day later, but I had to pull myself together and put on some heels so I could meet with an important client that morning. After I finished getting ready, I brewed a cup of coffee.I was wearing a peach-colored cotton dress that fell a few inches below my ankles, paired
