KING AIDEN STARED at the shewolf in front of him curiously. Until now, he was usually good at reading people. The shewolf in front of him gave nothing away. Other creatures would cower in his presence but not her. She glared at him.
She protected her companion like her pup. It made him even more curious about her story.
Why was she so cold?
Why was she so close to a Leprechaun?
Was she hiding?
Her green eyes held many secrets which he would certainly uncover soon.
"I have a proposition."
The King's interest perked up. He wanted to know what the she-wolf had up her sleeves so he gestured for her to continue.
"Three years ago, humans first released a breed of scientifically enhanced Zombies with higher intelligence. Since then, I have been monitoring their progress and movements.
"I infiltrated some of the government labs and discovered some rather...interesting things," she said offhandedly with a serious look on her face.
At that, the king already suspected what she had planned but wanted to see it all play out.
"What kinds of things?"
"The humans are building something bigger than the zombies that can wipe out our world from existence. While infiltrating a high-security facility in an off the grid area, I found a lab different from the zombies' lab.
"It was tagged 'XPX' and we both know that zombies possess the 'XP' genes. Something is coming, your Highness, something that might be bigger than us," she explained as the King tried to find a lie in her words.
Her breathing was steady and her expression unchanging.
"Where is this facility you speak of?" The King calmly asked even if he was dying of curiosity.
"In exchange for this piece of information and other important details I have gathered about the human activities over the years, I implore for the King to send some people over there and allow me to lead the operation to destroy that lab," she requested and the King chuckled humourlessly.
He had to hide his shock at the turn of events. He didn't expect that she would ask to lead an operation. He thought she would ask for protection or something else but not this.
"Why would I send my people on a possible suicide mission with an enemy of our species?" His voice had taken a dark turn.
"You are a wise man, King Aiden and you know I am telling the truth. Why will I go through all this trouble to take down a handful of men?
"If I wanted to kill vampires, you will be my target and not a few soldiers," she deadpanned without as much as a shred of fear in her voice while staring blankly at him.
King Aiden had seen grown men piss their pants at the sight of him. His voice had sent people running for the hills. Yet this small she-wolf next to him dared to demand things from him.
He didn't know if he should be impressed or outraged. He had to commend her, she knew how to play her cards.
"What will I get in return?"
"You get to play the hero," she replied without hesitation.
"The hero?" He couldn't help but be amused at her bluntness. This she-wolf was even more entertaining than his entertainers. He hadn't had this much fun in a while.
"Yes. I will lead the team and return and you will get all the credit, therefore bringing you closer to being voted the Supreme leader of all supernatural species," she responded with a soft sigh, her eyes briefly shifting to the door before resting on him.
The Supreme leader was the leader of all the supernatural species. Each species had its King but the Supreme leader was above all. He was responsible for allocating lands and conjoined profits of shared resources owned by all species.
The Supreme leader was second to the gods and the only thing above him was the Crown of omnipotence. And he had a feeling she knew something about the crown.
After all, it had been in the possession of the wolves for centuries. After the death of the Werewolf royal family, no one knew what became of the crown or where they hid it.
"You sound certain of your victory, why is that?"
At that, King Aiden could have sworn he saw a smirk before she replied, "I just do, so do we have a deal, your Highness?"
King Aiden had to think this one through. There was something off about the female beside him. She knew too much and he wanted to know what she knew. He had to admit that she was smart.
She sounded like one who had been brought up to be a queen. Her surname was not attached to a royal bloodline so she wasn't royalty.
Who then was this she-wolf?
"Of course," he affirmed.
She stood up. "Well then, I will be at your courtroom first thing in the morning. Please, let your commanders know and thank you for your hospitality."
The King nodded and dismissed her. After she went, the King's special adviser stepped out from behind the curtain.
"Do you think it is a good idea, your Highness?" Richard asked.
"She knows about project 'XPX' and we know that information was reserved to leaders only. The council of Kings decided to keep the news under wraps so as not to raise a national alarm until we are sure of what we are dealing with," King Aiden said with a small frown.
"What about her request for a team?"
"Richard, all the six Kings of the supernatural world have no idea where 'XPX' is located. Do you know what will happen if I locate it, find out what it is and destroy it?" King Aiden asked slowly as if he was talking to a child.
"You top the charts for the election and become Supreme King." Richard realised.
"Exactly."
But Richard was still confused. "What do you think is the reason why the she-wolf is doing this?"
"That, my friend, is what I intend to find out."
Diana DEEP IN HER thoughts, Diana did not realise that Sia had finished, and was now standing in front of her. "By the gods!" Diana exclaimed in astonishment as she took in the sight of her now imprinted friend. Unrecognisable words were tattooed all over the visible parts of her body except her face. "Does it look that bad?" Sia asked shyly. Diana quickly shook her head. "Of course, not! You look fierce, powerful and just as beautiful as you have always been." Sia looked at Diana with a timid smile on her face. "Thank you, Diana." "Do you feel any different? Does it hurt?" Diana asked. "It only tingled for some time and then nothing," Sia responded with a shrug. "And the book? The spells?" Diana asked again. "The book is gone now, and the spells…" Sia pointed to her head. "It's all in here." "That's perfect. Now, let us go back to the field and wait for Gary and Corbin. Gary expects that I have the Crown and you have the book. "But things have changed and those l
Diana "FOR THOSE OF you who have not met her, let me introduce you to Princess Diana Moonshine, daughter of the late King Dillon Moonshine. "She used to be the leader of the strategic team before she left. Now that she is back, she will continue to be the leader. "Stephan here will assist you, Diana," Aiden said, pointing to a man standing near Richard. Stephan stretched out his hand for a handshake, to which Diana took, immediately feeling his cold hands, and shook it. He held her hand for much longer than she would have liked. But she did not have to do anything because Aiden cleared his throat while glaring at Stephan. Diana pulled her hand back and turned to face Aiden. "What is going on, Your Highness?" "Less than an hour ago, I got a call from King Marse. His kingdom was hit by the Evolution. "He did not get enough time to call other kingdoms for backup before they were defeated. The same thing happened with King Fredrick. "We have lost the support of two kingdoms
Diana "I KNOW YOU may not believe me, so I want to show you something," Aiden said, then began taking off his shirt. "What are you doing?!" Diana asked in a high pitched voice. When she caught sight of his torso, Diana became tongue-tied. On his body was a beautifully drawn image of her Wolf form. Every little detail was perfect. The colour on her, and the golden markings, it was all there. She blurted out the first thing on her mind. "Wow, you actually did it. You got a tattoo." "Yes, and you are the only picture I want to see inked to my skin. The only one I want to see whenever I look in the mirror," Aiden responded. "It's beautiful," Diana complimented in awe, not taking her eyes off the tattoo for a moment. It felt unreal and impossible. Diana half expected to wake up at any moment and realised that all of this was a dream. Diana pulled her hands away from Aiden's view, closed her eyes, and discretely pinched herself. Opening her eyes, she half expected to wake u
Diana LATER THAT DAY, Diana was left alone with her friends. Sia had gone to meet Janessa and Ryan, while Aiden went to sort out matters concerning his kingdom. Rudolph filled Diana in about his situation with Lacey. Diana tried to understand what could be wrong with Lacey but came up with nothing after each thought. "Do you recall anything you did wrong before she became distant?" Diana asked. "No. I know for sure that I did not do anything wrong," Rudolph responded. "Then what could be the issue?" Diana mused. "Trust me, I have been wondering about that since we returned from the Fay kingdom. "Since she saw me hugging Janessa, she totally cut me out. She does not even want to see me," Rudolph said with a frustrated sigh. "Okay, calm down, let me talk to her. Maybe I can get through to her," Diana suggested. Rudolph instantly perked up with a smile. "That would be a lot of help. Thank you, Ana." "But first I have to talk to Aiden. I will go to Lacey afterwards," Diana
Sia ON ARRIVING AT the border of the vampire kingdom, Diana was recognised by the guards, and they helped Sia carry her to the castle. Without saying a word to Sia, Robin took Diana from the guards and began walking to a room. Not wanting to be apart from Diana in that state, Sia followed Robin and Rudolph. After Diana had been placed on a bed, Sia and Diana's friends sat around her, staring down at her in concern. Soon, a tall man strode into the room. He moved straight to Diana's side and her friends scooted over for him to sit beside her. Sia instantly recognised the King of vampires. "Your Highness," she greeted with a bow. "Explain," he said bluntly, as he grabbed Diana's small hand in his large ones. His eyes were cold and stormy but they held warmness for the female laying on the bed Sia watched the scene in confusion, wondering what the hell was going on. She knew Diana was close to vampires but she did not realise Diana was this close to them. "Yes, Sia, pleas
Diana IT WAS NOT certain to Diana how she found herself standing face to face with Selene. She felt the glass in front of her and indeed, she was now inside the glass which was a lot bigger than she thought. She turned to Selene. "Things get weirder and weirder at each step, but it is no longer surprising." As expected, Selene smiled. "Only you would be relaxed about standing inside a mirror." Diana shrugged. "Try having two other different personalities inside you, fighting zombies for four years, and being tortured by a crazy lunatic. "I guess strange things is my new normal. It no longer seems foreign to me anymore." "About Luna, it is actually my fault. You were right, wolves are not supposed to have a separate consciousness. "I tried to keep my sickness from you but I could not stop my mind from creating another consciousness in your head. "I wanted to take her out, but it would not work. So, when I saw how harmless she was, I decided to let her stay. "This just a
