19. Hey, Traitor

Marcus POV

A tall shadow crawled down the stairs, indicating the presence of someone behind me. I turned around to see Kathie leaning against the door post.

“Hey!” She voiced.

There was both a smile and a grimace held on her expression, and her eyes were filled with uncertainty, not knowing whether to come in or not.

“Hey, Kathie.” I said, returning the smile.

“Wanna sit?” I asked, motioning to the stairs.

She nodded.

I adjusted myself closer to the stair guide, giving her enough space beside me.

“So…”

“How did it go with Dad?” She asked.

I shrugged.

“Well, he's not that mad. He's only gonna disown me if I don't apologize to Lula, that's all.”

She held up a pity face, and I could sense the guilt she was feeling when her gaze moved away from mine.

“I'm sorry. I didn't mean to get you in trouble.”

“Don't be. You did the right thing by protecting her.”

Her hands lifted, rubbing against her arms to keep herself warm.
