Eira’s breath caught in her throat. Kael’s grip on her neck was so tight it nearly cut off her airway. On top of that, the excruciating itching and pain at the base of her throat only added to her suffering.

Every beat of Eira’s heart caused pain as if a spear were thrust through one part of her body, then pulled back out only to repeat the same process. Meanwhile, the roots of the cherry blossom growing there entwined tightly around her heart—as if trying to crush it.

“KAEL!”

Hearing the scream, Eira glanced over and saw Lucas approaching with a look of shock on his face. He even dropped the box he was holding.

Without a second thought, Lucas rushed forward and landed a punch to Kael’s face, causing Kael’s grip on Eira’s neck to loosen.

“Let go of Eira, you bastard. You’re hurting her!” Lucas punched Kael again.

“Oh, so you two are conspiring to destroy me, aren’t you? I knew it!” Kael released his grip and groped around, searching for Lucas.

“I’LL KILL YOU BOTH!”

The commotion drew the doctor and a nurse, who arrived with a sedative injection to stop Kael’s rampage. It was unclear how long Kael’s body would continue to be injected with that liquid, as he was completely out of control.

Eira crawled toward the bathroom, breathing in short gasps—the only sign that she was still half-alive at that moment.

Eira was struggling desperately to suppress her cough by covering her mouth with her palm as hard as she could, even though it was excruciatingly painful—a pain that left her body weak and helpless.

She knelt—curling up tightly, not wanting anyone to pity her because of the strange illness she was suffering from.

“Eira, are you okay?” Lucas’s voice rang out as he knocked on the bathroom door.

Eira could no longer respond. She could only stifle her sobs as best she could when her coughing finally stopped after a few minutes—it felt as though her soul was being torn from her body.

With her body completely drained of energy, Eira sat on the bathroom floor, pounding her chest in the hope that the tightness in her chest would subside.

But her sobbing suddenly stopped when her eyes caught a strange light in the bathroom mirror.

The light was small, forming letter by letter into a few sentences; as Eira stood up and approached the mirror, the writing became clearer.

‘Part of your soul no longer wants you. The contract has ended.’

Eira’s hand reached out to touch the light—which immediately vanished, replaced by a reflection of her pale face and a trace of blood at the corner of her lips.

She knew it was a message from the Moon Goddess.

The pact she had made with the Moon Goddess back then had come to an end. It was because Kael so desperately wanted Eira’s death—a part of her soul she had surrendered to the Moon Goddess so that Kael might survive when he was on the brink of death many years ago.

Eira never imagined that her deep love for Kael would actually cause the hanahaki disease to take root within her body.

“Eira, say something!”

Lucas’s shout rang out again. At that very moment, Eira quickly wiped away the blood and the dozens of cherry blossom petals scattered across the floor, then opened the door.

“Are you okay? Did something happen?” asked Lucas.

Eira gave a small smile. “I’m fine,” she replied, glancing over at Kael’s bed—where he was already fast asleep and looked peaceful.

Eira approached Kael’s bed again and sat down beside him, holding her husband’s hand so gently—because she knew that, right now, Kael wouldn’t hurt her.

“His clan cast him out because he’s blind,” Eira murmured.

Lucas, who heard this, also felt guilty—because he was the one chosen to be the next leader. But right now, Lucas was also in a state where he was refusing that throne, which was too heavy a burden for him.

“What would happen if Kael received an eye transplant, Lucas?” Eira asked suddenly.

“He’d still be Kael if the donor were from the Valerius clan.” Lucas sat on the sofa.

“If not?”

“It wouldn’t mean anything other than that he’d be able to see again. He might even lose some of his powers.”

Eira nodded in understanding. She hadn’t realized the rules were so strict. After all, the Moon Goddess clearly wouldn’t give away eyes for free, even if she asked, and no wolf powers from any clan could cure a medical condition.

“When I die someday… ask Kael if he’d be okay with getting a donor from a member of another clan.”

Lucas’s eyes widened in shock at Eira’s terrifying statement. Even though he already knew why Eira was talking about death, donating her eyes to Kael was still a terrifying prospect.

Because Eira had crystal eyes.

“Eira, are you crazy?” Lucas raised his voice slightly.

Eira shook her head slowly. “Promise me, Lucas, that if I’m gone, you’ll make sure Kael’s life goes well.”

“Stop talking about that, Eira!”

“Have you forgotten that I have hanahaki?”

Silence.

The atmosphere grew somber as Eira gently stroked Kael’s hair. It was a stark contrast to Kael’s attitude toward Eira.

“It’s okay. I’ll never regret loving Kael, even if my body is destroyed.” Eira stood up and gently kissed Kael’s forehead.

She then approached Lucas and held out her hand—asking for a handshake.

“What’s this?” asked Lucas.

“I have to go home.”

Lucas let out a long sigh and finally shook Eira’s hand before she stepped out of Kael’s hospital room.

Even though she was silent, Lucas knew Eira was crying.

“All right, I’m ready to meet you, Moon Goddess,” Eira murmured.

Eira was done with her love, her suffering, and her pain. At the very least, Eira had been fighting tooth and nail for years. And by refusing to give in to Kael and accept her death, Eira has triumphed over her fate.

Kael returned home feeling somewhat frustrated, having failed to uncover any information today. He had even gone out of his way—stopping by the Clawheaven forest on his way back from the office—in hopes of encountering that man once more.Yet, he had come up empty-handed."Eira?" Kael called out, finding the house pitch-black, even though it was only nine in the evening.Eira, who had been sitting on the sofa—lost in thought—turned, startled by Kael’s voice. She quickly stood up and flipped the light switch."Oh, you’re home," she said."What’s wrong? Why is it so dark?" Kael approached Eira and gently kissed her forehead.Eira offered a faint smile. She let out a soft sigh, choosing not to share what she had learned: that the man who had been watching her all this time was also suffering from the *hanahaki* disease."I was just waiting for you. Since the household staff had already left for the day, I turned off the lights," Eira lied.In truth, she hadn’t even noticed when the staff

Eira sat inside the man’s house, listening to the full story of Amora—the author of the book she now held in her hands. The man, who claimed to be Amora’s partner, showed her several blurry photographs; the faces in them were almost impossible to make out."She disappeared five years ago," the man said, his head bowed in sorrow.Eira remained silent, wanting to hear the rest of the story."I nearly lost my mind. I woke up one morning, and Amora was simply gone from my side. I searched for her—I went to the ends of the earth—but I found no trace of her existence, not even in the memories of those who had known her.""I’m sorry—what do you mean by that?"The man looked at Eira, his expression softening—a silent acknowledgment that her arrival was, perhaps, not unwelcome. It was understandable; after all, Eira was merely seeking to uncover the truth about the *hanahaki* disease."I mean... was she kidnapped? Or did she have to go somewhere because of the *hanahaki*?""She wasn’t kidnappe

"What do you mean, my wife is disappearing from this world? Did she ever wrong you in some way?!" Kael’s temper flared at the man’s reckless remark.Eira said nothing. She felt—or rather, she was certain—that the stranger standing before her was connected to the person who had mentioned the *hanahaki* disease to her when she had gone out the other day.She did not attempt to protest. Her expression remained flat, as if she were already prepared for the worst possible news. After all, she had died from that very *hanahaki* disease in her previous life."I am only speaking based on—""Don't talk nonsense!" Kael snapped, cutting the man off before he could say another word. The man glanced at Eira, who appeared far calmer than Kael—who had flown into a rage before even hearing a full explanation."Leave, if you have no further business with me," the man said, his patience worn thin by Kael’s arrogant attitude."Hey! I’m here because you were stalking us!""I told you, I’m not a stalker!

Kael wasn’t focused on his work. Many tasks had been left unfinished, though he eventually got them all done one by one. However, his new assignments might fall apart if Kael couldn’t get Eira's words from the night before out of his mind.Gone. Eira felt as if she were about to disappear, but Kael had no idea what she meant.“Mr. Kael,” Edward called out.Kael turned around in surprise. “Yes? Did you find any other clues about Winter Vixen, Edward?” Kael asked.Edward came in and showed him a photo he’d managed to take. “It’s not about Winter Vixen, sir. It’s about a man who’s been stalking your house lately.”Kael stared at the photo, which was indeed somewhat blurry. But it was enough for Kael to begin memorizing the man’s physique in detail slowly. The man was clearly extremely thin.“Did you manage to follow him?” Kael asked.“Yes, sir. He entered the Clawheaven forest and then vanished without a trace.“Ah, I even felt like he went through a portal separating this world from ano

Kael caught his breath, which had been labored ever since he’d been searching the Clawheaven Forest for the author of that book—and after several days, he’d finally received information that the woman’s last known trail led into the forest.“Are you sure that information is correct, Prince?” asked Ancient, who was accompanying Kael. When Kael recounted the information he’d gathered over the past few days, the Ancient finally decided to join the search because he, too, was curious to find out what the woman known by the pen name Winter Vixen actually knew.“I’m certain. The one who gave me the information was a lumberjack from around here,” Kael replied.“But… won’t it be very difficult to find that woman if we don’t know her real name?”“The problem is, there isn’t a single piece of information about her true identity except for this worn-out photo.”Ancient let out a soft sigh.It really is that difficult to track down someone who knows about Hanahaki. Because it’s just as rare as th

Eira left the house, her body—and nearly her entire face—concealed by her clothing. The sight of a man watching her home had left her even more terrified than she had been the day of her wedding, when she first caught a glimpse of those two red eyes. She hurried to a pharmacy, desperate to find something that could prevent pregnancy; she absolutely did not want to bear a child with Kael. What happened last night made it clear that Kael would likely do the same in the nights to come. Eira was determined to prevent a pregnancy at all costs. She was already suffering enough from the *hanahaki* disease—she could not bear the burden of any further pain."If you have already been intimate with your partner, this medication will not be effective. It is meant to be taken *before* intercourse," the pharmacist explained cautiously."T-then... what can I do to prevent pregnancy if it already happened last night?" Eira asked, panic rising in her voice."Ma'am, in this day and age, isn't having a
