Taking Places

There is no peace for the wicked, they say. But I hadn't any atom of wickedness running crickety in my veins, and yet, I had no peace.

My long found peace had been lost and there was no retrieval. I knew what it meant; a fresh start. But that was if I would ever want to move on.

The fitting of the morning into another day saw me reflecting back at what had been my fate over the decades, even before the advent of Mrs Lopez.

And Buck's intrusion had only succeeded in making it afflicting. Even going back to reclaim the kingship hadn't been on my mind's thought rader until then. But I was alone. How could I win?

I stepped down from the elevated chair and walked to the door, parting it wide apart to invite the sunlight and its requisite consorts, like the bird's tweets. But it wasn't appeasing.

I stepped out regardless, and sunlight gleamed over my skin simultaneously with the dusty wind.

I looked back at the house and shook my head. "I will be back."
