ANDERSON Ever since I saw her, I haven't been able to get my mind off of her. I can’t keep beating myself up over why I didn’t ask for her number or anything that I could use to find her. I guess it wouldn’t be so difficult to find her, she did just have a successful show a week ago. The thing is though, I want to be careful about this. I wouldn’t want people finding out I’m looking for this woman. Everyone knows me to be the focused man, hellbent on amassing even more success for himself and his empire. As I stare at the painting that rests on a part of the wall in my office, the same one we talked about and stared at when we spoke that night, I wonder what it must be about this woman that intrigues me the most. Perhaps I just need to sleep with her to get her out of my system. Yes, that’s probably it. I’ll try that but now I have to be even more sneaky about it. Lost in thoughts about Vanessa, my sister barges into my office again and immediately a bulb lights up in my head. “

VANESSA“I literally can’t believe he didn’t get your number. You both looked like you had fallen in love right there.” Says Gemma. She and Bella had called me this morning wanting details about the man I was speaking with last night, because apparently they had watched us for a while. “Well I don’t know what to say guys, he didn’t ask for it and I wouldn’t just give it either, I’d like to maintain some form of self respect.” I say that now but as we exchanged our last words last night I did think for a second to give it to him, but I refrained from that. “Do you think he’s married?” Bella asks.“No, I don’t think so. But I can’t be sure. Maybe he’s just completely out of my league and he was extra bored last night.”“Come on Nessa, don’t do that to yourself” Gemma chastises through the phone. “You’re a really sweet girl and any man would be lucky to have you,” Bella says. “Well thanks guys but I do need to go.” I tell them and we finally say our goodbyes. Although Anderson was on

RYANThe invitation box the gallery sent had been on my coffee table in my office since the day it was delivered. Now, I’m mindlessly inspecting the card it came with, reading the words and my name engraved on the card. I’m well aware of the only reason why I’m invited. It has nothing to do with my reputation and more to do with my known interest in art. I avoid going into public spaces where the useless blogs and gossip mongers are present. However, I’m unfortunately intrigued by this particular show. My contact in the gallery told me a bit about this new artist and her work, but I’ll just have to find out for myself if she’s worth the investment. Sauntering out of my office as I shrug my jacket on. My driver waited downstairs, anticipating my arrival. As I enter the car, I tell him where we’re headed. As the car pulls away from the parking lot, I unconsciously prepare my mind for the unnecessary chatter, feigned interest and side glances. Finally, we get to the gallery, I rummag

Anderson “You have to make an appearance Andy, I already told them you would.” Chloe warns. I can’t believe we’re back to this topic. “Why can’t you just go, Chloe?” I ask again like I did the last 5 times she brought up this art exhibition. “Because, Andy, you’re the CEO and I’m just your sister moonlighting as your Chief Marketing officer. And mostly because I don’t want to go, I have a date that night.” My sister is the only one who could refuse to obey me and survive it. “You’re not moonlighting as anything Chloe, that is your actual job.” I tell her impassionately “Potato, potahto. The point is you’re going and I already arranged everything for you.” I let out an annoyed groan, “okay” I say begrudgingly. “You can leave now.” Smiling to herself, she does a mock curtsy and sashays out of my office. I guess I have an exhibition to go for. Great. ***************** The night of the exhibition, I have a work emergency that I hope would stop me from going but unfortunat

The next few days go by in a breeze and the day of the exhibition comes along. The event is to start by 6pm tonight. I still have enough time to get ready and build my nerves for the night. Gemma and Bella had texted me earlier asking what time they should be there. Honestly, if it was up to me, I didn’t want anyone there. I wouldn’t be able to deal with it if they hated it and I’d know if they did. I tell them it starts by 6 but they could come later and in turn, they tell me they’ll be there by 6. By 4pm, I start getting ready and have to start saying affirmations to myself that I don’t really believe but I do it anyway. Putting on the red dress, it helps more with boosting my confidence. The fitting of the bodice is a corset style with a sweetheart neckline. While the skirt hugs my hips just right and spreads out to the sides in its full length. I wear my black lucky heels that I’ve owned for a while and are completely broken in. For the night I’m about to have, I definitely ne

Weeks had passed and now I had just 5 days to the exhibition. The last couple of weeks had been spent mostly painting and doubting myself and then listening to my “You Can Do This” playlist. It didn’t particularly help but it did keep me focused on my pieces. I had almost the required number of pieces now. Taylor and I had narrowed down and decided which of my archival pieces I should add to the exhibition. She seemed to have been really impressed by what she saw and that made me feel good. Today, I’ve been up since the crack of dawn finalising my last piece, but it just still felt off and like something was missing. It was noon now and as I stared pointedly at the painting, my phone dings. Bella: Hey, have you gotten your dress yet for your exhibition. Me: no, girl. I haven’t even thought of that…Bella: Good thing I’m here. I’ll come by when I’m done with this showing and we’ll go shopping!Me: alright! Dropping the phone on the desk, I turn back to my painting and make a low gr
